Terrorist Can't Ask Religion While Shooting, Pahalgam Survivor Might Have Lost Control Of Her Mind: Karnataka Minister

News1827-04-2025

RB Timmapur said: 'She (Shivamogga victim Manjunath's wife Pallavi) said that Muslims saved her son. See, as a result of the tragedy, her mind might have lost a bit of control...'
Karnataka excise minister RB Timmapur on Saturday sparked a row, discounting the Pahalgam survivors' accounts, saying a terrorist 'could not have asked their religion" before shooting.
The April 22 attack in Kashmir led to the killing of 26 tourists.
'Be it in Kargil, Pulwama or here, there has been a (security) failure. If you see this…A Hindu being shot after their ID cards were checked. Why weren't Muslims killed if you [the BJP] want to politicise any deaths? What will be the state of this nation?" the Congress leader said.
The survivors have been claiming that the terrorists made them recite Kalma or even stripped them to check their religious identity before killing them.

'She (Shivamogga victim Manjunath's wife Pallavi) said that Muslims saved her son. See, as a result of the tragedy, her mind might have lost a bit of control. But overall, if you look at it, how many Muslims have saved Hindus? If you ask me then, why were Muslims killed by terrorists then?"
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader R Ashoka responded on X: 'The hearts of the INCKarnataka party are beating for the fanatical Muslim terrorists of sinful 🇵🇰 Pakistan 🇵🇰 ). Hindutva is the reason for the Pahalgam terrorist attack: @irobertvadra. There is no need for war. We are for peace: CM @siddaramaiah. Will the attackers listen to religion? : Excise Minister R.B. Thimmapura."
Meanwhile, after facing backlash for telling the Indian government to boost security in Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah clarified: 'I never said there should be no war with Pakistan, if a war is inevitable, it will happen…I just said that for now, there should be no war."
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his radio broadcast Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, reaffirmed his commitment to delivering the 'toughest" punishment to terrorists and their backers, assuring the families of the Pahalgam attack victims that 'justice will be served."
He further said that Kashmir witnessed unprecedented growth in recent years, with the surge in tourism and opportunities for the youth, and noted that the Pahalgam attack was a desperate attempt by the enemies of the nation to derail the region's progress.

India increasingly experiencing BJP's development model: PM Modi

Bhubaneswar, June 20 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the country has increasingly 'experienced the BJP's development model", pointing to the recent trajectories of Assam, Tripura and, most recently, Odisha. Addressing a rally marking the first anniversary of Odisha's BJP government, the Prime Minister contrasted the 'previous regime's model of governance—marked by delay, obstruction, derailment and corruption' with what he called a decade of 'good governance that makes people's lives easier". Highlighting the Eastern India as a case study, Modi said a decade ago Assam was mired in instability, separatism and violence. "Today the guns have fallen silent and Assam is out‑pacing many other states on several parameters,' he said. In Tripura ,the Prime Minister said after decades of Left rule, Tripura 'lagged on every development indicator,' from crumbling infrastructure to unresponsive administration. Now, Modi argued, it has become 'a symbol of peace and progress.' Coming to Odisha , he said, it had long wrestled with widespread corruption, red‑tapism and poor infrastructure, leaving many regions behind. 'Over the past year we have worked with full resolve to change that reality,' he declared. Modi credited the union‑and‑state 'double engine' approach for a spate of projects worth 'thousands of crores' inaugurated on Friday. This model, he said, is delivering twin benefits: He said lakhs of poor families in Odisha previously excluded from Ayushman Bharat now receive coverage under both the Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana and Odisha's Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana. Nearly three crore Odias are eligible for cash‑free treatment—inside and outside the state—and more than two lakh patients have already availed themselves of the scheme in hospitals across a dozen states. Under Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana, over 23 lakh senior citizens (70+) in Odisha can claim up to Rs.5 lakh in free medical care, significantly easing household health costs. Modi said the farmers in Odisha now receive combined assistance under PM‑KISAN and the state's complementary schemes. The higher paddy procurement prices, promised last year, have already benefited lakhs of cultivators, Modi said. The Prime Minister lamented that tribal communities had been kept 'in poverty and deprivation for decades' and 'used for political gain' by earlier governments, which in turn fueled Naxalism. 'Our model brings development to these regions instead of driving them toward violence and oppression,' he asserted. UNI DP RN

Enforce slaughter ban: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to district admins

Guwahati: Assam chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma has issued a stern directive to the district administrations on Friday, asking them to enforce the ban on cow slaughter within a five-kilometre radius of any Hindu religious sites, in accordance to the Assam Cattle Preservation Act 2021. The chief minister's directive comes in the wake of multiple incidents where animal body parts were found near places of worship in Dhubri, Goalpara, Jorhat, Lakhimpur districts, and with a fresh incident being reported from Hojai district. Addressing the issue during a press conference in Lok Sabha Bhawan, Sarma said, "In the past few days, especially after Ei-ul-zuha. We have seen several attempts to create unrest. We have observed that such incidents often occur in sensitive areas, mostly in places where beef consumption during Eid is common. As per the law, within a five kilometre radius, of a temple or Namghar, consumption, slaughter or sale of beef is completely prohibited. But, during this year's Eid, this provision was not strictly enforced by the district administration, as a result locals were not alerted or informed, if they had been made aware of the five kilometre restriction, these incidents might have been avoided. All these incidents happened within the said radius of the namghars and temples. Therefore, the district administrations have been directed to strictly implement the cattle preservation act." The CM added that a standard operating procedures would be handed to the district administrations which to help ensure that no such incidents happen again.

Tripura CM mulls sex education in Class VIII-XII curriculum

Agartala: Tripura CM on Friday said the state govt is considering the introduction of sex education in the curriculum for students in Classes VIII to XII. Speaking at the legislative forum in the state assembly, Saha emphasised the importance of this initiative, stating, "We are considering incorporating sex education and HIV/AIDS awareness in the school curriculum in Class VIII-XII. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This is not a matter of controversy, it is a necessity." He also encouraged community involvement, suggesting that MLAs could allocate funds to support HIV/AIDS patients. Saha highlighted the equal impact of HIV/AIDS on both boys and girls and stressed the importance of engaging youth in sports, cultural activities, and other creative pursuits to steer them away from drug addiction and reduce their vulnerability to HIV/AIDS. He said Tripura was the first state in India to introduce Red Ribbon Clubs in schools and plans to create youth ambassadors to lead campaigns against drug abuse. Expressing concern over the rising number of HIV/AIDS cases and injecting drug users, particularly among teenagers, Saha said an average of 120 new HIV infections are reported each month in the state, despite preventive efforts by the state AIDS Control Society. In response to a proposal by Congress legislator Sudip Roybarman, the chief minister supported the idea of adding a dedicated chapter on sex education and HIV/AIDS to the school curriculum to raise awareness among the most vulnerable age group. Additionally, he suggested that each MLA could allocate Rs 1 lakh per year from their area development fund for initiatives against drugs and HIV.
