'Karisma Kapoor ne picture maang ke lee,' says Pahlaj Nihalini as he slams Anil Kapoor for his comment on the controversial song from Andaz: 'Jhooth hai no 1'
A song from
Anil Kapoor
, Juhi Chawla and
Karisma Kapoor
's 'Andaz' created a huge stir for its double meaning lyrics. This song called 'Khada Hai Khada Hai' faced immense backlash. In an old interview, Anil had called 'Andaz' a B-grade movie and said that he did the film just for money as he didn't have work that time.
He also had said that he didn't know about this song in the film and had also opposed to it. In a recent interview, when producer Pahlaj Nihalini was told about Kapoor's comments, he retorted.
Nihalini said during an interview with Vickey Lalwani, "I know of this interview. I told him off also once. He called Andaz a B-grade movie. Woh tarasta tha Andaz karne ko. Karisma ne picture maang ke liye. People were desperate to work with me, and Anil Kapoor was one of them. He's done so many B-grade movies in his life, how can he say that he did Andaz for money?"
When the interview told him about Kapoor's comment on the song, he said, "Jhooth hai number one.
This never happened. He must've heard the song 'Khada Hai Khada Hai' 50 times before we shot it. Usne bola, ke yeh gaane se hi picture hit hogi."
He said, "Sirf Juhi (Chawla) ne bola tha yeh kya movement hai? Toh maine kaha aise koi movement hi nahi hai." He added, "Anil Kapoor was mad. Usne toh kaha yeh gaana hit hai. Toh aise sab jhoothe interviews deke doosre aadmi ko neecha dikhate hai. I've never made a B-grade movie in my life!"

Govinda is ‘nasamajh', Pahlaj Nihalani says actor surrounds himself with pandits: ‘David Dhawan poisoned his mind'
Jun 21, 2025 06:09 AM IST Pahlaj Nihalani opened up about the downfall of Govinda's career and attributed the actor's bad company as a major factor. In an interview with Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel, Pahlaj said that Govinda listened to a lot of people in the industry who did not mean well for him and surrounded himself with pundits. (Also read: Anil Kapoor is 'jhootha no 1' says Pahlaj Nihalani, slams him for calling Andaz B-grade film: He was desperate to do it) Pahlaj Nihalani talked about Govinda's downfall in an interview. Speaking about Govinda's downfall, Pahlaj began, 'Govinda was an all-rounder. He handled his career very well, but because of his 'weakness', he tends to trust people easily, which is why this happened. The atmosphere around him isn't good, that's why he wanders away. He keeps the company of pandits and astrologers, fortune tellers and the atmosphere he has around him and what he believes in. But people don't take those conversations seriously. These types of conversations and this aura are extremely damaging, which has affected his career in the film industry.' 'David Dhawan ne uske mind me zeher daal diya' He went on to add, 'He was a single-screen hero, and the time when multiplexes came, people stopped his films from releasing. Jab Govinda ka time aaya Partner ke baad toh uski filmein jitni aayi, logon ne usko neecha dikhaaya aur shows chalne nahi diye. David Dhawan uske saath kaam kar raha tha aur David Dhawan ne uske mind me zeher daal diya tha against me. Kyuki unko lagta tha main ne paisa kamaya, jabki meri picture sey unka naam hua (After Partner, many of his films were not released or stalled. David Dhawan was working with him that time and he poisoned his mind against me. He thought I was making money but did not see he also made his name with my films).' About Govinda's films Govinda had a string of hit films at the box office in the 90s, including Raja Babu, Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, and Sajaan Chale Sasural. However, his films underperformed during the early 2000s. Now his son, Yashvardhan Ahuja, is all set to make his Bollywood debut soon with Sai Rajesh's film.

Karisma 'Begged' To Be In Andaz, Anil Kapoor Is 'Desperate, Number 1 Liar': Pahlaj Nilhani
Last Updated: Pahlaj refuted Anil Kapoor's claim of objecting to the Khada Hai Khada Hai song from Andaz. Film producer and former CBFC chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani has levelled allegations against brothers Anil Kapoor and Boney Kapoor. In a recent chat with Vickey Lalwani, Pahlaj refuted Anil Kapoor's claim of objecting to the Khada Hai Khada Hai song from Andaz. He mentioned that Anil and Karisma Kapoor 'begged' to work with him, with only Juhi Chawla voicing any objection. He also accused Boney Kapoor of poaching Madhuri Dixit by telling her lies. Reacting to Anil Kapoor's claims, Pahlaj said, 'I know of this interview. I told him off also once. He called Andaz a B-grade movie. He was desperate to do it. Karisma begged me to be in it. People were desperate to work with me, and Anil Kapoor was one of them. He's done so many B-grade movies in his life, how can he say that he did Andaz for money?" Nihalani clarified that Anil Kapoor had no objections to the song and said, 'He's jhoota number one. This never happened. He must've heard the song 'Khada Hai Khada Hai' 50 times before we shot it. He'd say, 'This song will make our film a hit.'" He added that only Juhi Chawla had some issues with the song. He said, 'Unlike Anil Kapoor, who was crazy about the song, and was sure that it would be a superhit. He's spreading lies and defaming me. I've never made a B-grade movie in my life!" Pahlaj also levelled poaching allegations against Boney Kapoor. 'I signed Madhuri Dixit. I was the one who found her a secretary. She was about to do my movie, but people created problems. Boney Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Subhash Ghai, and the lot spread the rumour that Govinda wouldn't want to work with a newcomer like her. I signed her, I got her a secretary, I offered her a role, but she backed out. They trapped her with their lies. Madhuri, the poor girl, was a 'gungi'. But Boney and his gang trapped her. Then I hired Neelam," he said. First Published:

(Also Read: Pahlaj Nihalani rubbishes Govinda's claim of being offered James Cameron's Avatar: 'Uske dimag ka disc ghum gaya') Pahlaj lashed out at Anil for calling Andaz a B-grade film and said, "I know of this interview. I told him off also once. He called Andaz a B-grade movie. Woh tarasta tha iske liye (He was desperate to do it). Karisma begged me to be in it. People were desperate to work with me at that time, and Anil Kapoor was one of them. He's done so many B-grade movies in his life, how can he say that he did Andaz for money?" When informed that Anil, in an interview, claimed he wasn't informed about the song Khada Hai and even objected to it, Pahlaj said, 'He's jhoota number one. This never happened. He must've heard the song 'Khada Hai Khada Hai' 50 times before we shot it. He'd say, 'This song will make our film a hit.' Only Juhi Chawla had some issues with the song. But Anil Kapoor was crazy about the song and was sure that it would be a superhit. He's spreading lies and defaming me. I've never made a B-grade movie in my life!" Directed by David Dhawan, Andaz was an action-comedy that also featured Kader Khan, Raj Babbar, Shakti Kapoor, Satish Kaushik, Ishrat Ali, and Mahesh Anand. Though the film was a commercial success, the song Khada Hai drew criticism for its double-meaning lyrics. Anil Kapoor is currently awaiting the release of his upcoming film Alpha, which is part of Aditya Chopra's YRF Spy Universe. The film also stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in lead roles. Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha will be the seventh instalment in the spy franchise, following Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, Tiger 3, and the upcoming War 2, which is slated for release on 14 August. Alpha is scheduled to release this Christmas.
