Bell Media to Make Strategic Investment in Blink49 Studios

BANFF, AB, June 9, 2025 /CNW/ - Bell Media announced today that it is making a strategic investment in independent production company, Blink49 Studios. Based in Toronto, Vancouver, and Los Angeles, Blink49 is known for its robust production pipeline and partnership capabilities within Canada, U.S., and Europe. The investment, which sees Bell Media strike, alongside FIFTH SEASON, a production and global distribution partnership with Blink49, further enhances Blink49's capabilities as it continues to grow its slate of scripted and unscripted content. The deal is set to close this Fall.

Natalie Sue's debut novel 'I Hope This Finds You Well' has won this year's Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour. The $25,000 award is given to the best Canadian book of literary humour published in the previous year. Margaret Atwood guest of honour at masked ball that raised $1.5 million
On June 7 philanthropist Bruce Bailey held the third edition of his Canadian fête champêtre at his farm outside Toronto, raising $1.5 million. The gala celebrated fundraising for the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts; Canadian Opera Company; Pelee Island Bird Observatory; the Israel Museum, Jerusalem; and Calgary's Glenbow Museum. Margaret Atwood was guest of honour at the party, whose theme was 'un ballo in maschera' (a masked ball), and many of the 500 guests rose to the occasion by wearing elaborate masks and costumes. Performers included a Montreal circus group, opera soprano Ambur Braid and dancers from Canada's National Ballet School.

Create Account The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation urged Canadian organizations to take steps to harden their networks against the threat posed by Salt Typhoon, a group linked to the Chinese government, in a bulletin issued late on Friday. 'The Cyber Centre is aware of malicious cyber activities currently targeting Canadian telecommunications companies,' the centre said. 'The responsible actors are almost certainly PRC state-sponsored actors, specifically Salt Typhoon,' it said, referring to the People's Republic of China. Separate investigations that revealed overlaps with malicious indicators consistent with Salt Typhoon suggest the cyber campaign 'is broader than just the telecommunications sector,' it said. The hackers will 'almost certainly' continue efforts to infiltrate Canadian organizations — especially telecom providers — over the next two years, the agency said. Beijing has repeatedly denied U.S. allegations of its involvement in Salt Typhoon, which was first reported by The Wall Street Journal last year.
