Q) have just accepted a pretty senior role at a firm I've wanted to be part of for a while.
However, since receiving the offer, I've discovered I'm pregnant – we weren't trying for a baby, but we'd like to progress with the pregnancy.
My question is, what's the right next step – do I tell my new employer up front?
Or maybe I should stay at my current job in order to get Statutory Maternity Pay?
I'm trying to deal with the physical, mental and financial changes to my life this pregnancy is going to bring, and I can't decide the best way to move forward.
Help!
Gracie, via email
A: Congratulations on your pregnancy, and also on your new role!
It's completely understandable to feel uncertain about how to navigate this situation.
When it comes to telling your new employer, remember that your pregnancy is a personal matter.
West Ham chief Karren Brady has her say on VAR in Premier League and predicts 'a season of anger and confusion'
Legally, you're not required to tell your new employer until 15 weeks before your due date, but being open early on can build trust, especially in a senior role.
When you do, focus on expressing your excitement for the role and your commitment to contributing, while also being transparent about your maternity leave plans.
As for staying in your current job to qualify for Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), that's a valid option if you've been there long enough and need the financial security.
You likely won't qualify for SMP from the new employer, but you may qualify for Maternity Allowance.
Visit Gov.uk for details, and consider talking to HR or a financial adviser.
Ultimately, weigh the long-term benefits of the new role against the shorter-term needs of your pregnancy.
This is an exciting time, so try not to let work stress overshadow it.
Good luck!

Transfer updates as Arsenal face Sesko U-turn while Liverpool agree deal
We're a week into the second transfer window of the summer and already the British transfer record has been broken. Liverpool have signed Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal which could end up costing them £116m. And the Reds' business is not over. Arne Slot's side have reached an agreement for a £40m deal to sign Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez, who is set for a medical this week. And the Reds are also keen on Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi, but they have Arsenal for company. While Jarell Quansah could depart the club. The Gunners are pushing for Benjamin Sesko as they eye a new frontman, but the RB Leipzig star's demands could still scupper the deal. Perhaps a move for Viktor Gyokeres is not yet off the table however. Confirmation of Martin Zubimendi's transfer may not happen until next month. Manchester United are also in the market for a forward having already added Matheus Cunha. But exits will equally be on Ruben Amorim's mind. United have yet to part ways with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony or Alejandro Garnacho. And the club may need the financial boost with significant prices quoted for the likes of Gyokeres and Bryan Mbeumo. Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen have to an agreement over their third deal of the summer with Jarell Quansah set to exit Anfield. Reports claim a £35m deal has been agreed with the Reds including a buy-back clause in the transfer. Quansah is set to commit to a five-year contract. Jadon Sancho has yet to find an exit from Manchester United but is said to be willing to move to Italy. One route out of the club may be dependent on another deal failing first however. Repoorts in Italy suggest that a move from Juventus for 25-year-old depends on whether they sign Francisco Conceicao from Porto. It's not all going smoothly for Arsenal as they attempt to finally sign a new forward. Arsenal are said to be growing frustrated with Benjamin Sesko's wage demands as they look to wrap up a deal for a new striker this summer. And while the club are ready to pay £70m for the RB Leipzig star, talks with Sesko's camp over his wages are not going smoothly. Thanks for joining us for another day of transfer news. We're a week into the second window and there's plenty more still to happen before the Premier League restarts.

Liverpool's stance on Marc Guehi transfer emerges as £35m deal gets green light
Liverpool are expected to continue splashing the cash in the transfer market after confirming the club-record signing of Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz Liverpool have already splashed some serious cash this summer after confirming deals for Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, but the newly minted Premier League champions have no intention of slowing down anytime soon. Arne Slot and Co are still seeking fresh faces in other areas, including at left-back with a deal for Milos Kerkez close. And there could be more new recruits in defence before the 2025-26 campaign kicks off amid links to the Crystal Palace captain, Marc Guehi. While more incomings are expected, outgoings are all but guaranteed. Darwin Nunez is likely to be among them after a poor season in front of goal and there is interest in the striker. There are also still contracts to sort with Ibrahima Konate emerging as the Reds' new top priority with his deal up next summer. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest transfer news from in and around Anfield... Guehi stance emerges Liverpool will not be held to ransom by Crystal Palace over Marc Guehi this summer with the champions only willing to press ahead with a move if the price is right. Guehi, 24, has plenty of suitors among the Premier League's elite with Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle also understood to be keen on the England star. And with just 12 months remaining on his deal, Palace are not in as strong a bargaining position as they were when interest in their star defender surfaced last summer. But with Liverpool unwilling to pay big money for Guehi, Palace may have to do a deal in order to avoid losing the former Chelsea man for nothing next year. £35m defender deal agreed Jarell Quansah will join Bayer Leverkusen after the Bundesliga outfit and Liverpool struck a deal worth £35million for the centre-back. Quansah had been linked with a Premier League move heading into the summer, but Leverkusen emerged as serious contenders for his signature last week. And with the cash generated from their record sale of Florian Wirtz to Anfield, Leverkusen have shook hands on a deal which will see Liverpool bank a guaranteed £30m for Quansah with the potential for a further £5m in add-ons. Next signing 'leaked' Eagle-eyed fans have pointed out a potential 'leak' from Gary Lineker after he referenced Milos Kerkez as a Liverpool player on the Rest is Football podcast. Kerkez is widely expected to put pen to paper on a switch to Liverpool after a package worth £40million was agreed with Bournemouth last week. But with no deal yet confirmed, an innocent mishap set tongues wagging over the weekend. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Arsenal consider Benjamin Sesko transfer U-turn as Marc Guehi call made
Arsenal are set for a busy summer in the transfer market as they look to sign a new striker, winger and midfielder to aid their latest Premier League title challenge Arsenal are yet to sign any new players, but Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his squad in a number of positions. The Gunners boss has told fans to expect a "big summer" in the transfer market. A new striker is top of Arsenal's shopping list and they have been heavily linked with several potential options, including Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres. A deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi has also been lined up. Arsenal have finished second in the Premier League for the last three seasons and Arteta will be hoping that his side can finally get over the line next year and lift the title for the first time since 2004. Here, Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest transfer news and rumours from in and around the Emirates... READ MORE: Sesko frustrations Arsenal are reportedly growing frustrated with Benjamin Sesko's wage demands as they look to wrap up a deal for a new striker this summer. Arsenal are ready to pay £70million for the RB Leipzig star but talks with Sesko's camp over his wages are not going smoothly. The report states that the 22-year-old's representatives want a deal 'much higher' than Arsenal are willing to pay. As a result, the Gunners could perform a U-turn and move for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres instead. Gyokeres is keen on a move to the Premier League and Arsenal are keeping their options open. Guehi makes decision Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is ready to snub Arsenal in favour of a move to Liverpool, according to a report from the Sun. Both clubs are interested in the England defender, but Guehi wants to be guaranteed first-team football and that is more likely to come from Liverpool. William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes have formed an impressive centre-back pairing for Arsenal in recent season. Liverpool, meanwhile, are selling Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen and there are doubts over the future of Ibrahima Konate as his contract is due to expire next summer. Zubimendi delay Martin Zubimendi's move to Arsenal is expected to be formally confirmed in July, even though the midfielder has already travelled to the UK to finalise the deal. Zubimendi was in London on Friday to put the finishing touches on the move, but Real Sociedad do not want the move to be ratified until July for financial reasons as the current football financial year is due to end on June 30. Zubimendi has a £51m release clause, but the Gunners are set to pay a fee that could reach £55m after negotiating more favourable payment terms with Sociedad.
