Q) have just accepted a pretty senior role at a firm I've wanted to be part of for a while.
However, since receiving the offer, I've discovered I'm pregnant – we weren't trying for a baby, but we'd like to progress with the pregnancy.
My question is, what's the right next step – do I tell my new employer up front?
Or maybe I should stay at my current job in order to get Statutory Maternity Pay?
I'm trying to deal with the physical, mental and financial changes to my life this pregnancy is going to bring, and I can't decide the best way to move forward.

It's completely understandable to feel uncertain about how to navigate this situation.
When it comes to telling your new employer, remember that your pregnancy is a personal matter.

Legally, you're not required to tell your new employer until 15 weeks before your due date, but being open early on can build trust, especially in a senior role.
When you do, focus on expressing your excitement for the role and your commitment to contributing, while also being transparent about your maternity leave plans.
As for staying in your current job to qualify for Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), that's a valid option if you've been there long enough and need the financial security.
You likely won't qualify for SMP from the new employer, but you may qualify for Maternity Allowance.

Ultimately, weigh the long-term benefits of the new role against the shorter-term needs of your pregnancy.

Transfer updates as Arsenal face Sesko U-turn while Liverpool agree deal
We're a week into the second transfer window of the summer and already the British transfer record has been broken. Liverpool have signed Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal which could end up costing them £116m. And the Reds' business is not over. Manchester United are also in the market for a forward having already added Matheus Cunha. But exits will equally be on Ruben Amorim's mind. United have yet to part ways with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony or Alejandro Garnacho. And the club may need the financial boost with significant prices quoted for the likes of Gyokeres and Bryan Mbeumo. Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen have to an agreement over their third deal of the summer with Jarell Quansah set to exit Anfield. Reports claim a £35m deal has been agreed with the Reds including a buy-back clause in the transfer. Quansah is set to commit to a five-year contract. Jadon Sancho has yet to find an exit from Manchester United but is said to be willing to move to Italy. One route out of the club may be dependent on another deal failing first however. Repoorts in Italy suggest that a move from Juventus for 25-year-old depends on whether they sign Francisco Conceicao from Porto. It's not all going smoothly for Arsenal as they attempt to finally sign a new forward. Arsenal are said to be growing frustrated with Benjamin Sesko's wage demands as they look to wrap up a deal for a new striker this summer. And there could be more new recruits in defence before the 2025-26 campaign kicks off amid links to the Crystal Palace captain, Marc Guehi. And with just 12 months remaining on his deal, Palace are not in as strong a bargaining position as they were when interest in their star defender surfaced last summer. But with Liverpool unwilling to pay big money for Guehi, Palace may have to do a deal in order to avoid losing the former Chelsea man for nothing next year. £35m defender deal agreed Jarell Quansah will join Bayer Leverkusen after the Bundesliga outfit and Liverpool struck a deal worth £35million for the centre-back. Quansah had been linked with a Premier League move heading into the summer, but Leverkusen emerged as serious contenders for his signature last week. And with the cash generated from their record sale of Florian Wirtz to Anfield, Leverkusen have shook hands on a deal which will see Liverpool bank a guaranteed £30m for Quansah with the potential for a further £5m in add-ons. Next signing 'leaked' Eagle-eyed fans have pointed out a potential 'leak' from Gary Lineker after he referenced Milos Kerkez as a Liverpool player on the Rest is Football podcast. Guehi makes decision Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is ready to snub Arsenal in favour of a move to Liverpool, according to a report from the Sun. Both clubs are interested in the England defender, but Guehi wants to be guaranteed first-team football and that is more likely to come from Liverpool. William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes have formed an impressive centre-back pairing for Arsenal in recent season. Liverpool, meanwhile, are selling Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen and there are doubts over the future of Ibrahima Konate as his contract is due to expire next summer. Zubimendi delay Martin Zubimendi's move to Arsenal is expected to be formally confirmed in July, even though the midfielder has already travelled to the UK to finalise the deal. Zubimendi was in London on Friday to put the finishing touches on the move, but Real Sociedad do not want the move to be ratified until July for financial reasons as the current football financial year is due to end on June 30. Zubimendi has a £51m release clause, but the Gunners are set to pay a fee that could reach £55m after negotiating more favourable payment terms with Sociedad.
