BJP Government's attempt to hide Keeladi findings shows its hatred for Tamil pride, claims CM Stalin
The BJP government's attempt to not accept the findings of the ancient excavation site of Keezhadi in Tamil Nadu's Sivaganga district by trying to put out of sight the final report only showed how much hatred it has for Tamil pride, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin alleged on Thursday (June 19, 2025).
Despite all the studies backed with scientific results, the Central Government, which was 'trying to hide the cultural pride of the Tamils' by delaying the publication of the Keezhadi excavation report, has failed to produce additional evidence even two years after the final report was submitted, he claimed.

CM Stalin said in a letter to party workers that it is 'a blatant attack by the BJP government on Tamil culture and pride.' The BJP wanted to destroy the symbol of Dravidian culture by promoting the fictional Saraswati civilisation, which lacked credible evidence, while dismissing the proven antiquity of Tamil culture, the CM said.
The artifacts obtained from the Keezhadi site were subjected to world-class scientific research and proved. 'The BJP government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not accepted it. That is how much hatred for the Tamil pride is embedded in that party's policies,' CM Stalin said.
He further said, 'As our leader Kalaignar (late Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi) said, the BJP, which looks at Tamil with bitterness and hatred, is continuously trying to hide the glory of Tamil culture unearthed at the Keezhadi excavation site.' The BJP government blatantly showed its hatred for Tamil culture by transferring the director who carried out the archaeological dig, Amarnath Ramakrishna, to Assam. Ramakrishna had submitted the initial report on the Keezhadi excavations to the Archaeological Survey of India in 2016 and he resumed work after a legal battle.
'Through the Keezhadi excavations it is clear that the Vaigai River civilisation of the Tamils is approximately 2,500 to 3,000 years old. This is not just conceptual information,' CM Stalin asserted.
The objects dug out from Keezhadi were classified and sent to the best laboratories in the country and the world for scientific analysis, and based on that, Ramakrishna submitted a 982-page final report in 2023. 'Despite all these studies and scientific results, the BJP government is trying to hide the cultural pride of the Tamils by delaying the publication of the Keezhadi excavation results. It has failed to produce additional evidence even after two years since the final report was submitted,' he claimed.
Opinion: Civilisation and its discontents
He flayed the Opposition AIADMK for being silent on the present action of the Centre, as its leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami has 'pawned' the AIADMK to the BJP.
In his letter, CM Stalin said the protests by the DMK youth wing and the ruling party's allies in Chennai and Madurai condemning the Centre's alleged rejection of the report on Keezhadi on June 18 would continue in order to echo in New Delhi.

Delhi CM performs yoga with students and boat club members on boats in Yamuna, hits out at AAP for ignoring river cleaning
New Delhi [India], June 21 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participated in the International Yoga Day celebrations organised at the Yamuna river on Saturday, joining the students and the boat club members as part of the nationwide effort to promote Yoga. CM Gupta also reiterated the promise of cleaning the Yamuna while also hitting out at the Aam Aadmi Party for ignoring the river. 'For years, Yamuna has been ignored by the governments that have been in power; they didn't do the work that should have been done. But, we are continuing our efforts to clean the river Yamuna since we assumed power in Delhi... Today, from the bank of this river, we participate in Yoga to give a message to the people of Delhi that the work is ongoing to clean the river. Soon, there will be cruises here where the boats are,' the Delhi CM told reporters here. The CM also took a sarcastic jibe at AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, saying that it cannot be helped if the latter associates Yoga with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 'If he (Arvind Kejriwal) sees PM Modi's face in yoga, what can we do? It is possible that after seeing something in the food, he might stop eating. After seeing the BJP's government in Delhi, he left Delhi,' the CM said. Visuals from the event showed students performing Yoga right on the Yamuna river on platforms and boats, showing their flexibility and their knowledge of Yoga. Multiple other party leaders, including Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra and BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, attended the Yoga Day celebrations at the banks of the Yamuna. The International Day of Yoga (IDY) is celebrated on June 21. This year marks the 11th International Day of Yoga with the theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', which echoes a vital truth that personal wellness and planetary health are inseparably linked. Earlier, PM Modi took part in the celebrations, where he hailed yoga as a gift 'beyond age' that transcends all boundaries and unites humanity in 'health and harmony.' Over three lakh individuals joined him for a mass yoga session in the coastal city, reinforcing this year's message that 'yoga belongs to everyone' and brings the world together. According to a United Nations statement, yoga strengthens the body, calms the mind, and fosters a heightened sense of awareness and responsibility in daily life. This mindfulness allows one to choose healthier and more sustainable lifestyles. In 2014, the United Nations declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131. The draft resolution establishing the International Day of Yoga was proposed by India and endorsed by a record 175 member states. PM Modi first introduced the proposal in his address during the opening of the 69th session of the General Assembly. (ANI)

AIADMK plays BJP's tune, calls DMK ‘divisive' over Keezhadi issue
CHENNAI: Signalling the aligning of the AIADMK with its recently reunited ally – the BJP – on the ongoing issue of alleged delay in publishing Keezhadi's excavation report by the Archaeological Survey of India, K Pandiarajan, who was the minister for archaeology in the previous AIADMK regime, on Friday said that archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna should respond to the questions raised by the ASI regarding his report. Implying that the questions raised by the ASI had credibility, Pandiarajan, who is at present AIADMK's deputy propaganda secretary, told the media that Ramakrishna's report said the antiquity of Tamil civilisation might date from the 5th century CE to the 5th century BCE. 'In other words, he suggests it could be any year within that span of thousand years. That is what he calls a discovery. Will anyone accept such a claim?' Pandiarajan asked. He further questioned the reason for the delay of many years in submitting the report by Ramakrishna, who carried out the first two phases of excavations in Keezhadi before he was suddenly transferred by the ASI to Assam in 2017. Since the controversy broke out in the end of May, the principal opposition party of Tamil Nadu had largely remained silent on the issue, while the ruling DMK and its allies have been vehemently attacking the BJP for trying to suppress the antiquity of Tamil civilisation.
