Continued dedication earned Empangeni-based FCS Detective Sergeant Sanele Shoba a nomination for FCS Investigator of the Year Level 5-7.
Shoba was among the top police achievers at the KZN Police Awards held at the Durban ICC last Friday night.
He humbly attributes his success to unit commander Lieutenant Colonel BY Sosibo for providing invaluable guidance on cases.
Shoba also acknowledged the tireless efforts of his office members, and his loving family for constant support and encouragement.
At the ceremony, KZN police commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said excellence is achieved by those who reflect on their performances, analyse their shortfalls, and engage in initiatives that bring success.
'The year brought us excellent moments that we need to cherish, but there are also some areas that need improvement. In our quest for perfection, we must celebrate the wins and honour those who have propelled the province to greatness,' said Mkhwanazi.

Father gets life imprisonment for son's murder

The Ezakheni Regional Court sentenced Ayanda Snothi Zwane (35) to life imprisonment for the murder of his son (6) in June last year. The court heard how, on the day of the murder, Zwane quarrelled with the child's mother while the child was asleep. Once he had chased the woman out of the yard, Zwane took the sleeping child and smashed his head on a rock. The child died after suffering a skull fracture with severe brain injury. Zwane was arrested shortly thereafter. In court, Prosecutor Amelia Lieketseng Mphomane led the testimony of the child's mother who was an eyewitness, the photographer who attended the scene, and the medical doctor who conducted the post-mortem. In aggravation of the sentence. Mphomane asked the court not to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence of life imprisonment because Zwane's actions had traumatised every member of the family. The family is grappling to understand why he would commit such a heinous crime. In addition to the life sentence, Zwane was declared unfit to possess a firearm. Don't have the ZO app? Robbery suspect with toy gun shot dead by security officer in KZN

An off-duty security officer fatally shot a suspected robber who confronted him with a toy firearm in Ogunjini, KwaZulu-Natal, on Friday, 20 June. The security officer employed by a Durban-based company was returning home when a man approached him and drew what appeared to be a firearm, demanding his valuables. The officer responded by drawing his licensed 9mm pistol and firing two shots, striking the suspect in the chest. The wounded man dropped the weapon, later confirmed to be a toy and fled into nearby bushes, where he collapsed. Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance at around 20:19. On arrival, officers found the suspect's body approximately five metres from the roadside. Officers recovered the toy firearm at the scene. The security officer told RUSA that four armed men robbed him on the same stretch of road a week earlier, taking his Samsung cellphone and wallet. Following that incident, he began carrying his firearm for protection. The attempted robbery on Friday did not injure him. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
