The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) highlighted its central role in supporting government digital transformation and enhancing the adoption of cloud computing technologies in Qatar, as part of its ongoing efforts to achieve the Digital Agenda 2030 goals and build an advanced digital infrastructure that fosters innovation and drives sustainable development. The ministry presented its initiatives during the Google Cloud Summit Doha 2025 held on Thursday.
During the summit, which celebrated the second anniversary of Google Cloud's regional launch in Qatar, Minister of Communications and Information Technology HE Mohammed bin Ali bin Mohammed Al Mannai honoured several government entities collaborating with Google Cloud that have made significant advancements in adopting cloud solutions and strengthening digital transformation within their sectors.
The recognition underscores the contributions of these entities in improving operational efficiency and enhancing digital services, aligning with the ministry's vision of establishing an integrated, smart government system capable of keeping pace with global digital transformations.
The event also highlighted the critical role of public-private partnerships in accelerating digital transformation and fostering an environment conducive to innovation.
In a panel discussion on purpose-driven innovation, MCIT's Director of Digital Innovation Eman Al Kuwari emphasised the ongoing digital transformation efforts in Qatar, showcasing key ministry-led initiatives, including the AI Sandbox, XR Sandbox, smart city solutions, and digital public services.
She underscored the vital role of strategic partnerships in accelerating the adoption of emerging technologies and the importance of investing in national talent, particularly youth. At its dedicated exhibition booth, the ministry highlighted several major national projects and initiatives aimed at strengthening Qatar's digital infrastructure.
Among the highlighted projects was 'Fanar', the Arab AI initiative, which represents a significant advancement in AI applications related to Arabic language and culture. This initiative aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the pillars of the Digital Agenda 2030. The ministry also presented an interactive demonstration of the XR Sandbox, a virtual environment designed for the development and testing of extended reality applications, alongside the AI Sandbox, which provides support for innovators and entrepreneurs developing AI-driven solutions. The ministry showcased its professional development programme, which aims to train and empower national talent according to global best practices.
During the summit, MCIT's Assistant Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Operations Sami Al Shammari emphasised that the ministry's participation reflects its firm commitment to digital transformation as a key strategic pillar of government operations.
Al Shammari described the partnership with Google Cloud as an effective model for accelerating institutional cloud adoption, ensuring that government entities are digitally prepared and capable of maintaining secure and resilient operations.Currently, 56 government entities benefit from Google Cloud's scalable and secure solutions, ensuring business continuity and improved operational efficiency. Al Shammari also highlighted the Overseas Internship Programme launched in Dublin in collaboration with Google Cloud, describing it as a significant step toward developing national expertise capable of leading and localizing advanced technologies in alignment with the Digital Agenda 2030.
The ministry's participation in the Google Cloud Summit served as a platform to showcase its strategic partnership with Google Cloud, which now includes 56 government entities. This collaboration is a cornerstone of Qatar's digital transformation efforts, ensuring a reliable, secure cloud infrastructure that enhances operational efficiency, guarantees business continuity, and equips government agencies to meet future digital demands. The partnership also facilitates advanced cloud service adoption based on global best practices, contributing to improved service quality for citizens and residents.
As part of this strategic collaboration, the ministry continues to expand cloud solutions across various government sectors, reinforcing cooperation with leading global technology firms and adopting agile operational models capable of adapting to the evolving digital landscape. QNA Doha The Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX) has announced a partnership agreement with the Joaan Bin Jassim Academy for Defence Studies to jointly host the Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC). The MENC is a key feature of the ninth edition of DIMDEX which will take place from January 19 to 22, 2026 at the Qatar National Convention Centre. The Middle East Naval Commanders Conference will centre on the theme of 'Defence Diplomacy and Maritime Security Challenges'. As a leading forum, it will bring together international thought leaders to discuss the latest developments in maritime defence and security within the context of this critical theme. The event will welcome senior government officials, ministers, ambassadors, chiefs of staff, naval commanders, experts, maritime professionals, and academics. Staff Brigadier (Sea) Al Ansari said, 'We are honoured to partner with the Joaan Bin Jassim Academy for Defence Studies, a leading institution specialising in military sciences, to host the Middle East Naval Commanders Conference at DIMDEX 2026. World Bank projects Qatar's growth to accelerate to 6.5%

QNA DOHA The World Bank projected that the economic growth in the State of Qatar is to remain stable at 2.4% in 2025, before accelerating to an average of 6.5% in 2026-2027 due to the expansion of LNG capacity. These improved prospects are supported by strong non-hydrocarbon growth, particularly in education, tourism, and services, the World Bank said in its report 'Gulf Economic Update.' The hydrocarbon sector is expected to growth timidly in 2025 (0.9%), before undergoing a significant boost in 2026 thanks to the North Field LNG expansion coming online, supporting a 40% rise in LNG output. Non-hydrocarbon growth is expected to remain robust thanks to infrastructure upgrades and international investments, the report said. 'Economic growth across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is projected to increase in the medium-term to 3.2% in 2025 and 4.50% in 2026. This growth is likely to be driven by the expected rollback of OPEC+ oil production cuts and robust expansion of non-oil sectors,' according to the to the latest edition of the report, regional growth was 1.7% in 2024 – an improvement from 0.3% in 2023. The non-hydrocarbon sector remained resilient, expanding by 3.7% — largely fueled by private consumption, investment, and structural reforms across the GCC. At the same time, global trade uncertainty presents challenges, as a global economic slowdown remains a key downside risk for the region. To mitigate these risks, GCC countries need to accelerate economic diversification reforms and strengthen regional trade. 'The resilience of GCC countries in navigating global uncertainties while advancing economic diversification underscores their strong commitment to long-term prosperity,' Division Director for the GCC countries at the World Bank Safaa El Tayeb El-Kogali said. 'Strategic fiscal policies, targeted investments, and a strong focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation for youth are essential to sustaining growth and stability,' she added.

Qatar sees 194% surge in GenAI enrolments: Coursera

QNA Doha Coursera, a leading online learning platform, announced on Monday that Qatar has seen a 194 percent year-over-year increase in Generative AI (GenAI) enrolments and a 55 percent growth in Professional Certificate enrollments, pointing to growing demand for flexible, job-relevant credentials that correspond to national transformation goals. The report revealed that Qatar now leads the Arab world in technology and data science skills, scoring 64 percent in each domain, and also demonstrates strong performance in business skills with a score of 72 percent.
