Penguins hire Rangers assistant Dan Muse to replace Mike Sullivan as head coach
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Dan Muse is the new head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Penguins hired the former New York Rangers assistant on Wednesday, tasking him with helping the franchise navigate a rebuild during the twilight of longtime captain Sidney Crosby's career.
Muse replaces Mike Sullivan. Sullivan and the Penguins split in April after a nearly decade-long tenure that included a pair of Stanley Cup titles. The Rangers quickly scooped up Sullivan, naming him their coach in early May.

The 42-year-old Muse was hired after a monthlong search by Penguins general manager and director of hockey operations Kyle Dubas. Muse's hiring leaves the Boston Bruins as the last of eight offseason head coaching vacancies.
Dubas said the team met with 'many candidates' before deciding on Muse, who has spent the last half-decade as an assistant at the NHL level. Muse also has a track record as a cultivator of talent and served as the head coach of USA Hockey's National Team Development Program from 2020-23.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — At 4-foot-11, Kristin Chenoweth is still making it to the NBA Finals. The award-winning actress, singer, Oklahoma native, Oklahoma Hall of Fame inductee and unabashed Thunder fan is performing 'The Star-Spangled Banner' before Game 7 of the title series between the Thunder and the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night, the NBA announced. Chenoweth's performance will air live on ABC at 8 p.m. Eastern, shortly before tipoff of the season's final game. Chenoweth's Thunder fandom has been no secret for at least the last 15 years, though she also has professed at times to liking the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks as well. That said, the Thunder are clearly her top choice — so much so that she once told the Tulsa World she spent three hours bedazzling a Thunder hat. She went to Oklahoma City University after growing up in Broken Arrow, about 115 miles northeast of where the Thunder play. And her dog's name is Thunder. She even dressed the pup up once in a Thunder outfit. Chenoweth has been the anthem singer at multiple Thunder games in the past, sometimes alone and at least once with children from her Chenoweth Broadway Bootcamp. That camp is part of the arts and education fund that she founded to cultivate 'young artistic expression by enriching children's lives through the power of education, entertainment and experience.' Chenoweth won a Tony Award in 1999 for best featured actress in a musical for her role in 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.' She also earned two other Tony nominations for best actress in a musical — one in 2004 for playing Glinda in 'Wicked' and the other in 2015 for playing 1930s Hollywood diva Lily Garland in 'On the Twentieth Century.' And in 2009, she won an Emmy for best supporting actress in a comedy series for her work on ABC's 'Pushing Daisies.' Canadian midfielder Jonathan Osorio will miss the rest of the CONCACAF Gold Cup
HOUSTON (AP) — Canadian midfielder Jonathan Osorio will miss the rest of the CONCACAF Gold Cup because of a lower-body injury. Osorio was hurt on Friday, and the Canada Soccer Association said he was returning to Major League Soccer's Toronto on Sunday for evaluation. He cannot be replaced on the roster. The 33-year-old has 85 international appearances, the most on the team's Gold cup roster. Canada has one win and one tie going into Tuesday's Group B finale against El Salvador. Orioles catcher Maverick Handley leaves game after collision with Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr.
NEW YORK (AP) — Baltimore Orioles backup catcher Maverick Handley left Sunday's game against the New York Yankees after being knocked over in a collision at the plate with Jazz Chisholm Jr. With Baltimore ahead 2-0, Chisholm hit a two-out double off Dean Kremer and went home on DJ LeMahieu's single to left. Colton Cowser's throw was up the third-base line. Handley moved to his left for the throw, arriving for the ball at the same time as Chisholm, who tried to veer to the inside to avoid contact. Chisholm, whose left cleat had come off as he speeded down the line, smacked into Handley, fell past the plate and had to come back to touch it. Handley, a 27-year-old who debuted in April, got up slowly and was removed after a discussion with interim manager Tony Masolino and head athletic trainer Scott Barringer. Baltimore replaced Handley with former Yankees player Gary Sánchez.
