ARTHUR D. LITTLE SURVEY WITH UAE BANKS HIGHLIGHTS DIGITAL COMPLEXITY AND EMPLOYEE READINESS CHALLENGES IN UAE'S OMNICHANNEL BANKING
72% of UAE employees rely on mobile-first channels, but 25% lack confidence in handling multichannel queries.
35% cite complexity of digital platforms as a major barrier to service delivery.
Only 10% find it extremely easy to access and use customer information across channels.
42% report difficulties transferring customer issues due to inconsistent service availability.
Generational divides remain: employees over 45 show only 28% satisfaction with digital tools.
Dubai, UAE: A new survey by Arthur D. Little (ADL) conducted with 42 banks in UAE and KSA reveals that while the UAE banking sector leads the GCC in digital adoption and omnichannel innovation, major challenges remain in ensuring frontline employees are empowered to deliver seamless experiences. The report draws on insights from 24 UAE banks surveyed in ADL's Omnichannel Survey 2024.
According to the findings, 72% of UAE employees operate in mobile-first environments, reflecting the country's advanced digital infrastructure. However, 25% of staff report lacking the confidence to manage customer queries across multiple channels. This is compounded by digital platform complexity, with 35% citing interface challenges and fragmented user journeys that disrupt service quality.
'UAE banks have invested heavily in digital infrastructure, but now the focus must shift to employee enablement,' said Martin Rauchenwald, Partner and Global Head of Financial Services practice at Arthur D. Little. 'Bridging the gap between technology and talent is essential to realize the full potential of omnichannel strategies.'
Data access and usability also emerge as significant concerns. Only 10% of UAE respondents say it's extremely easy to retrieve and use customer information across platforms, while 30% find it extremely challenging. Fragmented systems and lack of real-time synchronization force staff to rely on manual workarounds, increasing friction and reducing productivity.
A further 42% of UAE employees face issues transferring customer problems between channels due to inconsistent service availability. This breakdown in continuity undermines customer trust and employee morale. The Viewpoint notes that real-time backend integration, enabled through cloud and blockchain, is key to overcoming these hurdles.
Rezwan Shafique, Principal, Financial Services at Arthur D. Little Middle East, added, 'To deliver truly seamless service, UAE banks must prioritize backend modernization, strengthen cross-channel consistency, and invest in training that's tailored to employee roles, digital fluency, and generational needs.'
Generational divides persist. While younger employees under 35 show 60% satisfaction with digital tools, only 28% of those over 45 report the same. Among the dissatisfied older group, 42% attribute their struggle to insufficient training. Targeted mentorship, simulation-based learning, and inclusive upskilling are necessary to bridge these gaps and strengthen readiness across the board.
As banks like Emirates NBD and Mashreq pioneer omnichannel models powered by AI and personalization, their success hinges on aligning innovation with workforce capability. he survey concludes that UAE banks must now evolve from technology adopters to integration leaders by ensuring employees are supported, systems are unified, and customer experiences are truly seamless.

Deezer Adds AI Song Tags to Tackle Streaming Fraud
Yara Sameh Deezer announced Friday that it will begin labeling albums that include AI-generated tracks in combat against streaming fraud. The music streaming service reports that about 18% of the music uploaded each day — more than 20,000 tracks — is now fully AI-generated. While most of these tracks don't go viral, Deezer says around 70% of its streams are fake and designed to earn royalties fraudulently. To combat this, AI-generated tracks on Deezer are now clearly tagged and won't appear in editorial playlists or algorithm-based recommendations. Fraudulent streams are also being filtered out of royalty payments. The company says the new labels will be a game changer in helping listeners determine the difference between human-created music and AI content. Deezer notes that for now, AI-only songs make up just 0.5% of all streams on its platform, but that the trend is growing fast. 'We've detected a significant uptick in delivery of AI-generated music only in the past few months and we see no sign of it slowing down. It's an industry-wide issue, and we are committed to leading the way in increasing transparency by helping music fans identify which albums include AI music,' Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier said in a press release . 'AI is not inherently good or bad, but we believe a responsible and transparent approach is key to building trust with our users and the music industry,' he added. 'We are also clear in our commitment to safeguarding the rights of artists and songwriters at a time where copyright law is being put into question in favor of training AI models.' Deezer applied for two patents in December 2024 for its AI Detection technology, which it says is focused on two different ways of detecting 'unique signatures' that tell the difference between synthetic and authentic content. The move comes as Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, and Sony Music Entertainment are reportedly in talks to license their work to AI startups Udio and Suno, Bloomberg reported earlier this month. MCE Highlights Ethical, Moral Dimensions of Artificial Intelligence at Jakarta Book Fair
Mohamed Mandour As part of its active participation in the 2025 Islamic Book Fair (IBF) in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, the Muslim Council of Elders organized an intellectual seminar titled 'Promoting Digital Awareness and the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence' during the fair's opening day. The seminar witnessed notable attendance, particularly from youth and individuals interested in the intersection of modern technology with human and religious values. The seminar began with a keynote address by His Excellency Prof. Dr. Muhammad Quraish Shihab, a renowned exegete of the Quran, former Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs, and member of the Muslim Council of Elders. In his remarks, Prof. Shihab emphasized that Islam does not separate knowledge from ethics, noting that the first revealed verse—'Read in the name of your Lord'—establishes a foundational link between science and moral responsibility. He warned that without a grounding in spiritual and human values, science and technology, including artificial intelligence, could become tools of misguidance rather than enlightenment. He further cautioned against relying on AI for issuing legal or religious verdicts, as the data it relies on may stem from cultural and religious contexts that do not align with Islamic traditions. Prof. Shihab identified three core ethical principles that must govern the use of modern technology: human dignity, public benefit, and moral accountability. Dr. Rezzy Eko Caraka, a leading researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency, presented on the practical dimensions of artificial intelligence applications. He stressed that modern technologies should remain tools that serve humanity, not replacements for human decision-making or thought. Dr. Caraka highlighted several ethical challenges associated with AI, including violations of privacy, excessive cognitive reliance on technology, and the environmental impact of server operations. He called for fostering a culture of responsible and mindful technology use and advocated for the development of ethical and intellectual frameworks grounded in religious values. In a remarkable intervention, His Excellency Prof. Dr. Pratikno, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, underlined the need for comprehensive digital sovereignty to confront the challenges of artificial intelligence—starting with the development of localized content. He warned that the absence of local content in AI datasets could distort religious concepts and erode cultural identity.
