Sulaibikhat advances to Federation Cup semifinals
KUWAIT CITY, May 21: Sulaibikhat basketball team booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2024-2025 Federation Cup after defeating Al-Nasr 121-101 in a high-scoring preliminary round match held at the Federation Hall in the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Complex in Sabah Al-Salem.
Sulaibikhat will now await the winner of the upcoming quarter-final clash between Al-Arabi and Al-Qadisiya, scheduled for tomorrow (Friday).
In another preliminary round matchup, Al-Arabi cruised past Al-Tadamon with a 107-89 victory. The standout performer of the game was Ibrahim Al-Shammari, who delivered a stellar performance with 45 points and 11 rebounds.
Back to the Sulaibikhat vs. Al-Nasr showdown—featuring the league's fifth- and sixth-placed teams—the "Reds" (Sulaibikhat) dominated throughout, capitalizing on the absence of Al-Nasr's Macedonian head coach Jordanko Davidbakov, who was replaced by local coach Salem Al-Daoud.
Sulaibikhat set the tone early, jumping to a 32-19 lead in the first quarter and maintaining a 58-48 advantage by halftime. The absence of Al-Nasr's American center, Ibrahima Thomas, was especially evident in the second half, as Sulaibikhat controlled the paint and extended their lead to 85-72 at the end of the third quarter. In the final period, they pulled away further, closing out the game with a commanding 20-point margin.

Asian Championship experience key for Kuwait's rising squash stars
SARAWAK, Malaysia, June 22: The Kuwaiti squash team wrapped up its participation in the 23rd Asian Men's Championship, which began last Monday in Sarawak, Malaysia. The team was led by Adel Al-Gharib, a member of the Kuwait Squash Federation's Board of Directors. It included players Athbi Al-Jamaan, Abdulrahman Al-Maghribi, Jassim Al-Gharib, and Khaled Al-Fawzan. Commenting on the competition, Al-Gharib said, 'The participation of 86 players from 16 Asian countries highlights the tournament's high caliber and fierce competitiveness, especially with many players ranked among the continent's elite.' He emphasized that Kuwait's participation with young players under the age of 19 was a strategic move to build for the future. Al-Gharib noted that upon returning to Kuwait, the players will follow a structured training program designed to prepare them for upcoming continental events. Double podium for Kuwait as Al-Ajmi wins gold in Qatar
DOHA, June 22, (KUNA): Kuwaiti shooter Hussein Al-Ajmi claimed first place in the third Gulf Traditional Archery Championship, which concluded in the Qatari capital. Fellow Kuwaiti shooter Issa Al-Kandari also secured a podium finish, taking third place in the same event. The championship, held at the Simaisma and Al-Dha'ayen Youth Centers, featured 60 participants from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and was one of the main sporting events of Gulf Youth Day 2025. Expressing his joy, Al-Ajmi said he was honored to achieve first place in a competition that reflects the heritage and values of Gulf society. He stressed the importance of participating in such regional championships, which help build competitive spirit, foster athletic development, and provide valuable experience for upcoming tournaments. Al-Ajmi also extended his sincere appreciation to the State of Qatar for its warm hospitality and successful organization of the championship.
