Noida cop murder case: Ghaziabad police announces rewards for those on run
The Ghaziabad police on Saturday announced a reward of ₹25,000 each for information leading to the arrest of four absconding suspects allegedly involved in the mob attack that led to the killing of Noida police constable Saurabh Kumar on the night of May 25 in Nahal village, officials said.
A seven-member Noida police team had arrived at Nahal village around 11pm on May 25 to arrest Qadir, who was a suspect in the theft of a music system and ECM from a Verna car. The theft allegedly occurred on the night of May 2–3, and a first information report (FIR) was lodged at Phase 3 police station in Noida on May 21 against an unidentified person.
The Noida police, in their FIR lodged at Masuri police station in Ghaziabad on May 26, stated that they were attacked twice by a mob that resorted to indiscriminate firing, during which Constable Saurabh was shot in the head and killed.
'The CCTV footage which we recovered has indicated that there were about 25–30 persons in the mob. They resorted to pelting stones at the police team. The videos available with us to date show that no one had any firearms or weapons with them,' said Surendra Nath Tiwary, DCP (Rural Zone), Ghaziabad.
Tiwary added that 15 people, including Qadir and his brother Adil, have been arrested, while four others remain absconding. 'We have announced a reward of ₹25,000 each for their arrest,' Tiwary said.
The Ghaziabad police maintained they were not formally informed by Noida police about the operation. They also said that only one bullet casing was recovered from the scene, even though Saurabh was shot from close range, according to the autopsy report.
'So far, we do not have evidence that could indicate that any of the arrested suspects fired a shot at Saurabh. Our investigation is continuing with eight teams, and we have roped in informers to locate any other video footage or clues,' Tiwary added.
The FIR has been filed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including murder, attempt to murder, rioting, assault on public servants, criminal conspiracy, and criminal intimidation, along with provisions under the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act.

CUTTACK: Expressing alarm over the practice of manual cleaning of drains by engaging labourers, the Orissa High Court has directed the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) to take immediate steps to shift to mechanised process and submit a report by July 31. 'This court expects that the inhuman methodology resorted to would be stopped immediately and efforts shall be made to undertake the drain cleaning activities by deploying technologically advanced drain cleaning machines,' the bench of Justices SK Sahoo and V Narasingh, which is dealing with PILs on civic issues in Cuttack city, said. The court took note of media reports on how labourers, even minor boys, are engaged in the daunting task of clearance of wastes, deposits and sewage from the storm water channels and big drains in the city. While they enter the drains without proper safety gear or safety measures, no CMC staff is monitoring the operations, thereby endangering the lives of the workers. The bench observed, 'Needless to say, ensuring the health and safety of labourers is crucial for productive outcome. This involves implementing measures to prevent work-related injuries, diseases and hazards. When the labourers are used to clean the big drains manually, it very often leads to hazardous conditions and can lead to injuries or fatalities due to toxic fumes and coming in contact with sharp objects like broken glasses, metals and spikes besides poisonous snakes in the water bodies.' Accordingly, the bench ordered the CMC to finalise a plan of action to streamline the cleaning process of the drains by adopting suitable machines and training of manpower and place it in the court during on the next date on July 7. The bench also directed CMC to make sure there is no violation of the provisions of Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act in their operations.

Case Filed Against Jeweller For Cheating Gold Supplier Of Rs 93.5 lakh
Thane: Police have registered a case against a jeweller for allegedly cheating a gold ornaments supplier of Rs 93.5 lakh in Maharashtra's Thane district, an official said on Monday. The accused, who has a shop at Khardi in Shahapur area, purchased 950 gms of gold jewellery from the supplier over the last three years. Despite several reminders, the accused failed to pay Rs 93.5 lakh to the supplier for the purchases, the official from Bazarpeth police station in Kalyan said. Based on the victim's complaint, the police on Sunday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused under sections 316(2) (criminal breach of trust) and 318(4) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, he said.

"Not Fit To Fly, Go Stitch Shoes": IndiGo Pilot Alleges Casteism At Work
New Delhi: Alleging casteist insults at work, a trainee pilot with IndiGo has accused three senior officials of telling him that he was "not fit to fly a plane" and "must stitch shoes" instead. The 35-year-old, who belongs to a Scheduled Caste, has filed a police complaint. An FIR has been registered against IndiGo officials Tapas Dey, Manish Sahni and Captain Rahul Patil under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The complainant first approached the police in Bengaluru. The cops there registered a zero FIR -- an FIR that can be filed in any police station irrespective of where the crime took place. This FIR has now been sent to Gurugram, where IndiGo is headquartered. IndiGo is yet to comment on this matter. The low-cost airline's website stresses that it follows inclusion in the workplace. "Our diversity equity and inclusion efforts are designed to attract, nurture, and advance the lives of our employees and customers irrespective of their - but not limited to - gender, race, color, religion, caste, creed, ethnicity, origin, language, social and economic status, sexual orientation, differently-abled status, marital status, nationality, age, family status, and maternity status," a note on the website says. In his complaint, the trainee pilot referred to a meeting on April 28 at Indigo's Gurugram office. He alleged that during the 30-minute meeting, he was told, "You are not fit to fly an aircraft, go back and stitch slippers. You are not even worthy of being a watchman here." The trainee pilot has said the harassment was aimed at forcing him to resign. He has said the derogatory remarks were aimed at degrading his identity as a Scheduled Caste person. He has also alleged that he had suffered "professional victimisation" through unjustified salary cuts, forced retraining sessions and unwarranted warning letters. He said he had raised the matter with higher officials and IndiGo's ethics panel, but no action followed. Eventually, he was forced to file a police complaint, he has said.
