The Congress and its MP Rahul Gandhi have been trying to corner Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government over the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan following India's anti-terror Operation Sindoor. The results of a News18 public poll, however, indicate overwhelming support for PM Modi and aversion for the Congress's tactics.
Rahul Gandhi has used the slogan 'Narender Surrender" to allege that PM Modi 'surrendered" and stopped the attacks after a call from US President Donald Trump. The Congress also shared a two-panel cartoon on social media site X: the first showed Trump yelling 'Narender, surrender" into the phone, and the second showed Modi saying 'yes, sir".
Even as Trump has claimed on multiple occasions that he had a role in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the Indian government has maintained that the operation was paused at the request of Pakistan and no third party was involved in the process.
India launched precision strikes aimed at terror establishments in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under the codename Operation Sindoor on May 7 as a response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 people.

The poll by News18 was conducted over two days, May 6 and May 7, 2025, using state-of-the-art software. It was held on News18's websites and social media platforms, and also via television channels using QR codes. A total of 14,671 responses were collected. ‎
To the question, 'Do you believe that PM Modi has consistently taken a strong stand when it comes to national security?", a whopping 88.06% of the respondents replied 'Yes", while just 11.94% picked 'No".
BJP leaders have hit out at Rahul Gandhi over his tactics, with party national president JP Nadda accusing the Wayanad MP of 'treason" as well as insulting the valour and courage of the armed forces.
'Rahul Gandhi calling the unmatched valour and courage of the Indian Army a 'surrender' is not only unfortunate but also a grave insult to the Indian Army, the nation and 140 crore Indians. If any Pakistani had said this, we would have laughed at him, but after the way Operation Sindoor wreaked havoc in Pakistan, no one from the people of Pakistan to its army and even its Prime Minister dared to say this, but Rahul Gandhi is saying this! This is nothing less than treason," Nadda said.

The incident was cited under a section highlighting the misuse of the maritime and shipping sectors to move sensitive goods, including dual-use items that can be repurposed for weapons programmes. During an investigation, Indian authorities confirmed that documents mis-declared the shipment's dual-use items,' the FATF report said. 'Indian investigators certified the items for shipment to be 'Autoclaves', which are used for sensitive high energy materials and for insulation and chemical coating of missile motors,' the report said. It said these sensitive items are included in dual-use export control lists of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR). The bill of lading of the seized cargo provided evidence of the 'link between the importer and the National Development Complex, which is involved in the development of long-range ballistic missiles,' it said. The export of equipment such as the autoclaves without formal approval from various authorities is a violation of existing law, the FATF said. Pakistan's National Development Complex (NDC) has played a crucial role in the development of Pakistan's missile programme. India had seized the dual-use equipment from merchant vessel Da Cui Yun at Kandla port in Gujarat on February 3, 2020. The Indian customs authorities had stopped the vessel for wrongly declaring an autoclave, which can be used in construction of missiles, as an 'industrial dryer'. The report said that significant vulnerabilities remain across the global financial system in countering the financing of weapons of mass destruction (WMD). The report said that unless the public and private sectors urgently bolster technical compliance and effectiveness, those seeking to finance WMD proliferation will continue to exploit weaknesses in existing controls. The report provided a detailed analysis of the evolving methods and techniques used to evade PF-related sanctions.
