Football stars Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis welcome baby boy Jagger Mewis-Kerr
Football stars
Sam Kerr
and
Kristie Mewis
have announced the birth of their first child, a baby boy named
Jagger Mewis-Kerr
. The news was shared on Thursday morning, May 8, via Instagram, where the couple posted a radiant selfie holding their newborn son.
In the photo, Mewis rests her head on Kerr's shoulder, while Kerr beams at the camera, holding Jagger close.

Their caption read: "Our little man is here, Jagger Mewis-Kerr."
This milestone comes nearly six months after the couple revealed in November 2024 that they were expecting, sharing a series of intimate, heartwarming pregnancy photos on Instagram. Throughout the pregnancy, they offered regular updates, including a March post showing Mewis's growing baby bump.
The couple had also shared the news privately earlier this year during Kerr's court case in London, where the Australian footballer revealed under oath that they were expecting a boy.
An outpouring of love from the football community
Following the announcement, support flooded in from across the football world.
The Matildas' official account commented: "Congratulations!"
West Ham Women, Mewis's current club, wrote: "Congratulations, Kristie and Sam" alongside a heart and crossed-hammers emoji.
Chelsea Women
, Kerr's team, posted: "Congratulations, Sam and Kristie! Adorable 💙" while her teammate Aggie Beever-Jones added: "Cutest ever."
The Barclays Women's Super League also joined in, writing: "Congratulations!"
Messages poured in from fans and fellow players alike, celebrating a major moment for one of football's most admired couples.
A relationship built on love, resilience, and shared success
Kerr, 31, and Mewis, 34, have been together since 2019, when they connected shortly after Kerr moved to London. During her court testimony earlier this year, Kerr shared that Mewis had 'slid into her DMs' during lockdown, sparking a relationship that quickly grew serious.
In 2023, the couple got engaged. Mewis announced the news in People Magazine, saying: "[She's] my biggest supporter, always listening to me nag and complain at all of my crazy antics."
Their relationship has played out both publicly and poignantly on the football stage. Most memorably, Mewis was seen consoling Kerr after Australia's heartbreaking 4–3 defeat to the USA during the Tokyo 2021 Olympic bronze medal match. The two sat together on the pitch after the final whistle, embracing quietly in the centre circle.
The couple spent Christmas 2024 in Perth with Kerr's family and later attended the wedding of Matildas teammate Emily van Egmond and Kat Thompson. Mewis, then heavily pregnant, wore a striking blue and white gown as she celebrated with Kerr.
Support through legal challenges and injury setbacks
Their latest joy follows a difficult period. In January 2023, Kerr was involved in a dispute with a taxi driver and subsequently a British police officer, leading to a charge of racially aggravated harassment. During the incident, Kerr admitted calling the officer 'stupid and white.' She was later found not guilty and expressed remorse, issuing a public apology.
Throughout the trial at Kingston Crown Court, Mewis supported her fiancée, attending proceedings and standing by her side.
Following the verdict, Football Australia confirmed that no further action would be taken and that Kerr would retain the
Matildas captaincy
.
Kerr has also faced a long rehabilitation from an ACL injury suffered in January 2024, which has kept her off the pitch for over a year. Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor recently said there is no timeline for her return, but Kerr has resumed light training and joined the Matildas during recent friendlies against South Korea.
A look ahead
Mewis, who joined
West Ham United
in 2023, has had an extensive career in the U.S. and abroad. She's been capped 53 times by the U.S. national team, scoring 7 goals and winning three SheBelieves Cups and the 2022 CONCACAF Women's Championship.
Kerr, Australia's all-time top goalscorer with 69 goals in 128 caps, continues her recovery while embracing motherhood. She and Mewis have planned their wedding for December 2025, closing out what has already been a transformative and emotional year.
Though it's still unclear when Kerr will return to the pitch, the Matildas are next scheduled to face Argentina on May 30.

It was the first win for the Blue Tigresses in over four months, with its last victory coming against Jordan in the Pink Ladies Cup, earlier this year. It has lost to Russia, South Korea and Uzbekistan, falling to its worst-ever ranking of 70 in the FIFA rankings. Diljit Dosanjh's Bollywood Movies In Trouble? Film Body To Boycott Actor Over Hania Aamir Row
Diljit Dosanjh has sparked controversy over his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3, which features several Pakistani actors including Hania Aamir, Nasir Chinyoti and others. Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh is facing massive backlash over his upcoming film, Sardaar Ji 3. The film features popular Pakistani actor Hania Aamir (as well as Nasir Chinyoti, Daniel Khawar and Saleem Albela), whose casting has stirred backlash in light of the recent Pahalgam terror attack. Amidst this, BN Tiwari, President of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), has slammed Diljit for working with Hania, and demanded a complete ban on all his future projects. FWICE President condemned the collaboration, stating that he has hurt Indian sentiments. While speaking with Hindustan Times, he said, 'By working with a Pakistani actor, Diljit has hurt Indian sentiments. He has disrespected the sentiments of the nation and insulted the sacrifice of our brave soldiers. His preference for Pakistani talent over Indian artists raises serious questions about his loyalty and priorities. By collaborating with a Pakistani actor, Diljit has hurt Indian sentiments, disrespected the nation, and insulted the sacrifices of our brave soldiers," he said. FWICE President Calls For Strict Ban On Diljit Dosanjh's Upcoming Films He further added that while the film isn't releasing in India for now, any future plans to do so will be met with a ban. Currently, Sardaar Ji 3 is only releasing overseas. FWICE President added that Diljit working with a Pakistani actor is unacceptable, and that they are imposing a strict ban on all future films, songs, and projects involving him. 'We have called for a strict ban on all upcoming films, songs or any other sort of projects. We will also issue a formal letter on the same today. Along with Diljit, we have also called for a ban on the producers of the film regarding all their upcoming films," he said. BN Tiwari mentioned that they had previously reached out to the filmmakers for clarification but received no response. He stated that they had sent a letter but didn't get an answer, so they would proceed with the ban. Diljit Dosanjh's Upcoming Films Border 2, Panjab 95 In Trouble? While Sardaar Ji 3 is set for an overseas release on June 27 and is unlikely to hit Indian screens, the ripple effect could be significant. Diljit's upcoming patriotic action drama Border 2, could potentially face a FWICE-imposed boycott if the controversy continues. Another project starring Diljit, 'Panjab 95' – a biopic on human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra – has already faced multiple delays and CBFC hurdles, and may now encounter further challenges amid the growing backlash. On Sunday, Diljit released the film's trailer, which unveiled Hania's presence in the film. In the movie, Hania joins Diljit's character as a ghost hunter in the UK, with Neeru Bajwa also playing a romantic interest in this horror comedy. First Published:
