‘I walked the UK coast for five years – this little-known beach felt like the Bahamas'

Photographer Quintin travelled through Wales, up to Scotland and across England, finding beautiful coastal spots and he took 1,300 pictures.
Along the way, Quintin saw all sorts, including beaches that you wouldn't believe were in the UK - and one that looked like it was in the Caribbean, was actually in Scotland.
Quintin told Sun Travel: "
"The sea looks turquoise, which you'll see in the book. The water is a beautiful greeny blue - it doesn't look like it belongs in this country at all.
"When I went, it was a sunny day and there were maybe six people there so it was heaven. I couldn't believe it.
"All the northwestern and Sutherland beaches have white sand, and if you go off the beaten path you can easily find a hidden bay that you'll have all to yourself."
Quintin isn't the only one to recognise
It came in at number 45, and is the only UK beach to ever be placed in the top 50.

He continued: "Then on the
"The top has blown off and you wouldn't even believe it's in Britain, the beach is so remote and eagles fly overhead - it's very dramatic."
Quintin added: "I mean in northwest Scotland, it's really easy to find a beach where there's no one there for days on end."
Applecross Beach in Scotland is a remote sandy stretch that visitors have sometimes referred to as being the 'edge of the world'.
The area is known for its wild and untamed landscape, with rugged mountains, lochs, and beaches.

The beach is on the Gower Peninsula and spans for 0.6 miles in low tide. In 2023,
Quintin added: "It's just beautiful, I mean, if you're from Wales, it's probably quite well-known but that beach was magical and it's huge.

Then we meandered down the road to Bean and Batch for a second coffee and some indulgent cakes we definitely didn't need but absolutely enjoyed. I mean they don't call Kenmare a gourmet town for nothing! TIMELESS SPOTS Padraig headed off to play 18 holes at the stunning Kenmare Golf Club with my mum (yes, she's still swinging with style), while the girls and I explored the town on foot with some friends. We ambled through boutiques and craft shops before wandering down along the River Finnihy on the pretty River Na Grios It's peaceful, picturesque, and the perfect way to work up an appetite. Lunch brought us to the Park Hotel Kenmare, one of those timeless, graceful spots that's as much about the atmosphere as it is the Sitting out in the sunshine with a glass of rosé and views of Kenmare Bay with the sun splitting the stones - it's hard otherwise beat! DAY TRIP TO WATERFALL The next day, we ventured a little further afield to Gleninchaquin Park, just a 15-minute drive from town. The hike up the waterfall is breathtaking, quite literally — you'll earn your lunch, but it's so worth it. The views from the top stretch out over lush green valleys and craggy ridges. Nature showing off at its finest. Sunday evening brought us west, driving through the colourful village of Sneem and on towards O'Carroll's Cove — one of Ireland's only white-sand beaches. SOME CATCH The kids tucked into fish and chips while we went for the catch of the day - the most delicious fresh hake with roast potatoes I've eaten for a long time. Possibly made even more delicious eating it while watching the girls playing in the sand as the sun began to dip. Live music drifted from the beach For our final dinner, we booked a table at Mulcahy's, and I wish I could say we all sampled different things to give you a proper recommendation — but one of our friends had hyped up the Beef Wellington so much that we all ordered it. Zero regrets. It was melt-in-the-mouth magic. REFINED CHARMS Back in the day, Kenmare was fondly nicknamed 'Henmare' for its popularity with stag and hen parties. The Square Pint nightclub is long gone, and with it the late-night revelry. Now, a more mature, relaxed crowd comes to enjoy its refined charms. You'll find them sipping pints in the Horseshoe or Florry Batt's, toe-tapping to trad music in O'Shea's, or enjoying a charcuterie board and glass of red at the new No 35 Does the town miss the big-party trade? Maybe. But if you ask the locals, they seem quite content with the shift. The pace is slower, the vibe more relaxed, and the energy — like everything else in Kenmare — just feels right. So, if you're looking for a weekend that feeds the soul, fuels the belly, and fills your camera roll with beauty, Kenmare is calling. Come for the views. Stay for the vibe. You have the eyes of a hawk if you can find the alligator hiding in this swamp
ALLIGATORS are one of nature's toughest predators. Every year thousands of people visit Florida every year to get a glimpse of the lurking beasts. Credit: Harry Williamson But unless they are out in the open or strolling along the side of the road, the ferocious reptiles can be quite hard to spot. Their scaly green and brown skin allows them to blend in with the murky swamps of the southwest Florida and the Everglades. So it really takes someone with sharp eyes to find a gator that wants to hide. A visit to Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary just outside Naples, Florida, provided the top opportunity to put the eyes to the test while wandering along the boardwalks. Advertisement Somewhere in the swamp picture above, there is a lurking alligator but if you look close enough then you might just be able to see her. Female alligators are typically smaller than males, making this one much harder to see. The knobbly monster is also blending in with the leaves, brown water and other swamp plants. And to make things even harder, the sunlight reflecting off the low waters make her even more difficult to find. Advertisement Most read in Fabulous The American Alligator can be found in the State's marshes, swamps, rivers and lakes and is one of the most darkly coloured species of gator in the wild. That means that if you managed to spot the alligator in the picture then you are well and truly have an eye for detail. Quaint UK town hiding ‘Disney for history buffs' attraction that's loved by Countryfile star
AN unusual attraction that is a "Disney for history lovers" has been raved about by a Countryfile star.
