Leeds [UK], June 20 (ANI): Indian players have exuded confidence in their young and talented squadron to get the job done in England ahead of the series opener on Friday at Headingley, a venue India has not conquered since 2002.
A new sunrise is hours away from engulfing the sky of Indian cricket. The modern-day behemoth will begin its first assignment without the batting bigwigs Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who bid farewell to the Test format last month. Shardul Thakur, who has played four of his 11 Tests in England, looks forward to relishing the challenges England offers, which force players to make tweaks in technique to survive. He said, 'I think it is very exciting to play in this part of the world. Sometimes it is cloudy, and sometimes it is bright sunny, and as a player, you need to make adjustments to your game, whether you are batting or bowling.'
As the five Tests will mark the beginning of India's campaign in the latest World Test Championship cycle, left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav highlighted the importance of the five Tests and said, 'This is a big series, and if we win, it will be a massive achievement.'
Left-arm quick Arshdeep Singh, who earned his maiden call-up, added, 'To start off, here it is said that it is a tough series, if we seal it off well, it will be fun.'
Young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who enchanted the spectators with his bewitching performances in Australia, is excited for the next assignment and said, 'It always pumps you and always want to give your best, and just super excited to play in this England series.'

Prasidh Krishna, who ended IPL 2025 with the Purple Cap, hopes India can win the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy with fun and enjoyment and said, 'All of us are upbeat, always joking around. If that fun leads to winning a tournament here, it will be great. All of us will be jumping around for sure and maybe come up with a dance for a celebration.'

He just seemed to have time, more than anyone else, as he bludgeoned through the likes of Pakistan and Australia. And he's not the kind who changes his approach because it comes naturally to him. There's no doubting his talent. I remember seeing him for the first time when I was the coach and he was batting in the nets. He came out to bat and I went to the other coaches and said 'Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Who is this bloke? Get him in." Gill's India debut About a year later, Gill made his India debut during an ODI series in New Zealand, just a couple of months before the 2019 World Cup. Gill then made his Test debut in the Boxing Day Test match against Australia at the MCG and scored an unbeaten 48 as India completed a famous win after their infamous 36 all out in Adelaide. "He had that regal element about him. Just the way he played, and the shots he possessed. Especially against the quicks and the bouncing ball. He started off well during the Under-19 World Cup when Rahul [Dravid] was the coach. And just came through the ranks nicely," added Shastri. It's a challenge in itself when someone comes through, and everyone says this is the future of the country. More so in India, where expectations go through the roof. For all the pieces of the puzzle, Gill seems to have come through nicely. Having made it in the ODIs, he's now grinding it out in Test set-up.

Bavuma ruled out of Zimbabwe Tests due to injury

Cape Town, June 20 (UNI) South Africa's title-winning captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe due to a left hamstring strain. Keshav Maharaj will takeover as the captain for the red-ball series starting from June 28. Bavuma sustained the injury during day three of the World Test Championship Final at Lord's while batting in the second innings. He continued to bat with pain and put on a fight with a well-made half century, stitching up a match-winning partnership with Aiden Markram. Bavuma is set to undergo further scans to assess the extent of the injury, while experienced Maharaj will lead the side, which consists of five uncapped players. The Proteas had faced Zimbabwe in a warm-up fixture, before taking on Australia for the Ultimate Test at the Home of Cricket, where they were crowned the Test champions, an ICC report said. Proteas will take on Zimbabwe in the first Test on June 28, followed by the second Test from July 6, with both matches taking place at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo.
