Aurora police search for boy's father after 3-year-old is critically injured when gun goes off in Colorado home
A 3-year-old Aurora child is fighting for his life after being shot inside his home. Aurora police are searching for the boy's father and working to determine what led to the shooting. It is not yet clear who inside the home pulled the trigger or if the shooting was accidental.

Police said the child has life-threatening, critical injuries and is being treated at Children's Hospital Colorado. Officers are asking those who pray to pray for his recovery.
"It's crushing, you know. I've seen the kids outside getting into their cars, cute little kids," said Steve, a nextdoor neighbor who asked not to have his last name made public.
Steve said the family moved in about a month ago and began renting the apartment next to him, near East Exposition Avenue and East Centrepoint Drive in Aurora. He said he had only met the father, whom he described as nice and friendly.
"Kids are young. He said it was his fiancée," said Steve, referring to the woman who lived at the home.
On Monday morning, Aurora police said a gun believed to belong to someone in the home went off, critically injuring the 3-year-old boy.
"The mother said that she heard a gunshot in the house and then found the (child) suffering from a gunshot wound. We do not believe at this point that it was self-inflicted. We do believe that there was someone in the house that was possibly playing with the firearm when the boy was shot," said Agent Matthew Longshore with Aurora police.
The child's mother rushed him to Kaiser Permanente Urgent Care, located a block away. Steve, who had just returned from the gun range, came home to a chaotic scene.
"When I came home, there were a lot of cop cars here. I had no idea. I've heard lots of arguing, lots of profanity, lots of screaming, lots of yelling at the kids," Steve said.
Steve said his adult son was home at the time of the shooting but had headphones on and did not hear anything.
Gun violence and gun safety are personal issues for Steve. His other son died by suicide in 2018.
"It's devastating to hear that because I know what it was like when I found my son with a gun in his hand," Steve said.
Police said the boy's father left the home in a car after the shooting. They are now searching for him. It remains unclear whether the shooting was accidental.
"We want to figure out how dad was involved and why it is he left. Was it him manipulating the firearm? Or did he leave the firearm out, and another kid grabbed the firearm and fired the shot?" Longshore said.
As of Monday afternoon, Aurora police had taped off the apartment as a crime scene and were waiting for a search warrant to go inside. Investigators said they are working to uncover what happened as the young boy continues to fight for his life.
Police said the child's grandmother was also taken to the hospital for a non-gunshot-related medical emergency following the incident.
Police say there were two other children in the home. Authorities believe one is at the hospital with the grandmother and the other is with the father, whom they are actively searching for but have not identified as a suspect.

North Carolina woman sues former employer over Chucky doll prank she claims gave her PTSD
A former bank employee has filed a lawsuit against Truist Bank alleging discrimination and retaliation after she said a prank involving the doll Chucky exacerbated her anxiety disorder, according to several reports. Debra Jones claims in the lawsuit that despite knowing she had a fear of dolls, her manager placed a Chucky doll, "the doll that kills people," on her chair in her office, the New York Post reported. Jones claimed in the lawsuit that after the incident she was diagnosed with PTSD, saying she had shared her fear of dolls with her manager at a company cookout and that it affected her disabilities, which include generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder and the autoimmune disorder vitiligo, WRAL-TV reported. Jones claimed she was treated differently when she returned to work last year following two months of medical leave, accusing the bank of retaliating against her for needing to leave at 3 p.m. to treat her autoimmune disorder. After Jones returned to a new office and new manager she was "subjected to discrimination and retaliation based on her being a qualified individual with disabilities," according to the complaint. Her supervisors claimed that her coworkers "also needed time off," the lawsuit said, according to the station. Jones was let go in March after a manager told her she couldn't keep using her disabilities as an excuse, the lawsuit claimed, People magazine reported. Chucky comes from the 1988 horror movie "Child's Play," in which a dead serial killer inhabits a boy's doll and kills people. The lawsuit, filed in North Carolina in May, claims the bank violated the Americans with Disabilities Act and Jones is seeking compensatory damages. Man found dead on Westside Parkway identified
A pedestrian who was struck and killed on the Westside Parkway has been identified by the Kern County Coroner's Office. Zachariah Nathaniel Byrd, 36, of Bakersfield was found deceased in the 5800 block of the parkway at 6:23 a.m. May 3, the coroner's office said Friday. It is not know when he was hit. The Bakersfield Police Department previously reported there was evidence the case was a hit-and-run incident, and officers arrested Tomice Fryman, 51. Kern County Superior Court records show he was charged with second-degree murder, vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, hit and run causing death or permanent serious injury and driving with a suspended or revoked license for DUI. He is next due in court Aug. 19 for a pre-preliminary hearing.
