Hall of Fame QB Peyton Manning becomes latest sports celebrity to join NWSL Denver's ownership group
DENVER (AP) — Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning became the latest sports celebrity to join the ownership group of Denver's National Women's Soccer League expansion team on Tuesday.
Manning follows two-time Olympic champion ski racer Mikaela Shiffrin, who was announced as an investor last month in a club that will make its debut next season.
Manning and Shiffrin join an NWSL group in Denver led by controlling owner Rob Cohen. Denver was awarded the NWSL's 16th team earlier this year.
'Peyton's legacy as a champion and a leader is second to none,' Cohen said in a news release. 'His impact on Colorado sports is unmatched, and we're incredibly proud to have him as a partner. He brings passion, insight, and deep local roots — all of which will help us shape the future of Denver NWSL.'
All around the NWSL, big-name athletes are investing in teams. Manning's brother, Eli, is part of Gotham FC, while Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is involved with the KC Current and NBA star James Harden backs the Houston Dash. Decorated Alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn supports the Utah Royals FC.
Manning was a five-time MVP and two-time Super Bowl winner in a career that started with the Indianapolis Colts and ended in Denver after helping the Broncos to a title following the 2015 season. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021 after throwing for 71,940 yards with 539 touchdowns and 251 interceptions.
Since his retirement, Manning has grown his entertainment company Omaha Productions, which produces ESPN's 'Manningcast.' The show is hosted by the Manning brothers and offers an alternate way to watch 'Monday Night Football.'
'It's a real honor to be part of something so meaningful to the Colorado community,' Manning said of joining Denver NWSL. 'I'm proud to support the growth of women's sports and excited to help build a club that our city and our state can rally behind.'
Denver NWSL is building a 12,000-seat temporary stadium that will be its home during the 2026 and '27 seasons. The team also recently unveiled plans for a state-of-the-art, 14,500-seat stadium that will be located in downtown Denver.

Housing market map: Zillow just released its updated home price forecast for 400-plus housing markets
Want more housing market stories from Lance Lambert's ResiClub in your inbox? Subscribe to the ResiClub newsletter. Housing market map: Zillow just released its updated home price forecast for 400-plus housing markets Perplexity's new AI features are a game changer. Here's how to make the most of them What's behind the rise in interim CEOs Heading into the year, Zillow economists forecasted that U.S. home prices were likely to rise 2.6% in 2025. However, this year, the housing market—in particular in the Sun Belt—was softer than expected and Zillow has made several downgrades to its forecast for national home prices. This week, newly released data from Zillow shows that U.S. home prices have decelerated to a year-over-year increase of just 0.4%. Zillow economists now expect U.S. home prices to decline by 0.7% between May 2025 and May 2026. 'With inventory up nearly 20% over the previous year, buyers had more options in May than at any time since July 2020. Despite higher sales, sellers still outnumber buyers,' wrote Zillow economists. 'This gives buyers more time to decide and more power in negotiations. Zillow's market heat index shows a balanced market nationwide, one that's a lot more buyer-friendly than in recent years. Competition among buyers declined to the lowest level seen in May in Zillow records, reaching back through 2018.' Not only do Zillow economists predict soft national home price growth this year, but they're also predicting that the housing market will only see 4.1 million U.S. existing home sales in 2025. That would mark the third-straight year of suppressed existing home sales. For comparison, in pre-pandemic 2019, there were 5.3 million existing home sales in the U.S. Zillow economists added: 'Home values have fallen in 22 of the 50 largest metro areas over the past year, and sellers cut prices on almost 26% of listings nationwide—another May high in Zillow records. Homes that sell typically do so in 17 days, about four more than last year and only two days fewer than pre-pandemic averages.' This embedded content is not available in your region. Among the 300 largest U.S. housing markets, Zillow expects the strongest home price appreciation between May 2025 and May 2026 to occur in these 10 areas: Atlantic City, New Jersey → 3.4% Kingston, New York → 2.7% Knoxville, Tennessee → 2.6% Pottsville, Pennsylvania → 2.5% Torrington, Connecticut → 2.4% Rochester, New York → 2.2% Syracuse, New York → 2.1% Fayetteville, Arkansas → 2.1% Rockford, Illinois → 2.1% Yuma, Arizona → 2.0% Among the 300 largest U.S. housing markets, Zillow expects the weakest home price appreciation between May 2025 and May 2026 to occur in these 10 areas: Houma, Louisiana → -9.4% Lake Charles, Louisiana → -8.9% New Orleans → -7.2% Alexandria, Louisiana → -6.7% Lafayette, Louisiana → -6.6% Shreveport, Louisiana → -6.4% Beaumont, Texas → -6.2% San Francisco → -5.5% Midland, Texas → -5.3% Odessa, Texas → -5.3% While Zillow expects home prices across most of Florida to be flat over the coming year, ResiClub remains skeptical. After all, Florida has experienced a significant increase in active inventory and months of supply over the past year, which could signal potential pricing weakness. Indeed, prices of single-family homes and condos are currently declining in most Florida housing markets. Jon Anik on Jon Jones retiring: 'A lot of public figures feel perpetually misunderstood'
Jon Anik is grateful for Jon Jones' time in the UFC. Jones (28-1 MMA, 22-1 UFC) has officially retired, relinquishing his UFC heavyweight title. The former two-division UFC champion has never lost a fight outside of a disqualification blemish in 2010. Advertisement Anik, who has witnessed all of Jones' championship reign in the UFC, heaped praise on him as both a fighter and a person. "Congratulations to the 🐐, @jonnybones on accomplishing more as a mixed martial arts fighter than any man had prior! I met Jon in his hotel room in 2011, a few hours before he beat Shogun to become the youngest champion in UFC history. A lot of public figures feel perpetually misunderstood. Jones' infectious smile and presence cloaked the absolute killer that resided within. Over 15 years, I have witnessed this man's graciousness, kindness, and generosity with the UFC fan base. His success has helped push the UFC and MMA forward and, indirectly, he helped guys like me to make a living in the sport we all hold so dear. Look forward to seeing that grin and presence at @dirtyboxing soon, champ. Appreciate all the time, energy, and love over the years. You will be missed. -30-" Jones defended his UFC light heavyweight title a total of 11 times before opting to make the move up to heavyweight years later. He claimed the vacant belt with a quick finish of Ciryl Gane at UFC 285, then successfully defended it against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, which would mark his final fight. "Bones" finds himself in legal trouble once again, with reports in Albuquerque accusing Jones of leaving the scene of an accident with a half-naked and intoxicated woman in the car. Jones' attorney says his client has been falsely accused and is being targeted by police. This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: UFC commentator Jon Anik reflects on Jon Jones' retirement
