
You can now feast among the Frick's masterpieces at the museum's new restaurant
Starting June 6, New Yorkers can officially a add 'Have a berry tart with elderflower crème at the Frick ' to their summer bucket lists—the iconic Upper East Side institution is opening its first new restaurant in nine decades.
Named Westmoreland, this sleek new spot lives on the museum's newly renovated second floor and is part of a broader effort to modernize the Frick experience without sacrificing an ounce of its old-world charm.
Named after the Frick family's private Pullman railcar (yes, really), Westmoreland is steeped in Gilded Age elegance. The 50-seat café offers ticket-holding museumgoers and members a refined table-service menu by Union Square Events, served in a transportive space designed by Bryan O'Sullivan Studio. Think green mohair details, floral-motif paneling and dreamy murals inspired by Japanese screens and Renaissance landscapes, all with views of the Frick's tranquil 70th Street Garden.
'As we continue to celebrate the Frick's grand reopening, we are thrilled to debut the museum's first-ever café,' said Axel Rüger, the museum's director. 'It will provide our visitors and members with a respite to enjoy conversation about the collection over refined food and beverages.'
The menu, led by Executive Chef Skyllar Hughes, fuses seasonal, regional fare with nods to the Frick family's original menus. For breakfast-y bites, there's a caramelized onion and thyme scone or kale-ricotta quiche. For lunch, you can go high-brow (poached trout with spring onion sabayon) or comforting (a club sandwich with herbed aioli and potato chips). Vegetarians will find gems like the mushroom and feta toast and a perfectly zippy Caesar with add-ons like grilled chicken or fish.
But the real showstoppers are the desserts and drinks. A strawberry tart with elderflower crème pâtissière makes for a floral finish, while the chocolate mousse duo (dark and white) leans lush and decadent. Beverage-wise, you can toast like a Gilded Age aristocrat with European wines and curated cocktails inspired by the museum's Cocktails with a Curator series. The 'Widow's Kiss'—made with calvados, benedictine, yellow chartreuse and bitters—is bound to become an instant favorite, and it sounds just as dramatic as the Bellini across the hall.
Reservations are same-day and only available onsite, so plan accordingly. Whether you're museum-hopping or just craving a quiet meal surrounded by good art and even better design, Westmoreland is your new UES secret weapon. Just don't spill the soup near the Vermeer.

Scotland's best street food spots crowned as Edinburgh eateries claim top prizes
The popular will compete in the British Street Food Awards in London this September and may reach the European final in Munich in October Two street food favourites are set to represent the country on an even bigger stage after taking top honours at this year's Scottish Street Food Awards 2025. Smoked Tamago, known for its contemporary Japanese-Korean dishes, was crowned Scottish Street Food Award Champion, while Fire Bowl, specialists in fiery East Asian fusion, scooped the People's Choice Award. Both will now head to London in September to compete in the British Street Food Awards, with the chance to reach the European final in Munich this October. Smoked Tamago wowed the judges with its signature seaweed Tamagoyaki, a fluffy Japanese rolled egg, and a Korean-style rice burger. Headlining a line-up of nine finalists, each trader presented their two best dishes to a formidable panel, including Sam Yorke, Head Chef at Michelin-starred Heron; Jo Laidlaw, Food & Drink Editor at The List Edinburgh; musician Callum Easter; Gaby Soutar, restaurant critic at The Scotsman; Navida Galbraith, Head of Ops and Programme at The Pitt; and British Street Food Awards founder Richard Johnson. 'We always hope to find something completely different and new when judging these awards and that's exactly what Smoked Tamago served up,' said Johnson. 'The unique mix of sweet, savoury and smokiness in the Tamagoyaki was incredible, and all of the judges agreed the rice burger was a revelation.' Smoked Tamago has a history of breaking new ground. After introducing Tamagoyaki to the Hong Kong street food scene in 2016, where it quickly became a sensation, the team relocated to Scotland. Since then, they've built a loyal following through pop-ups and events, with regular appearances at Errol Sunday Market and the Leith Walk Police Box. With every made-to-order roll, they're on a mission to spread 'the gospel of the mighty Tamagoyaki'. Meanwhile, Fire Bowl, based at The Pitt, impressed enough eaters to take the People's Choice award. Their chicken skewers were hailed by judges as 'some of the best ever tasted'. The street food stall was born from a trip across East Asia, where founders Andie and Euan ate their way from Seoul to Osaka. Today, Fire Bowl blends those inspirations with Scottish flair, from donburi bowls and yakitori skewers to Highland beef with whisky tare and their signature 'neep' kimchi. Dumpling Mama took second place in the overall Best in Scotland award, with beautifully crafted dumplings that the judges described as 'exquisitely presented and perfectly balanced'. Serving up a mix of Cantonese flavours and creative global twists, including Mexican Cowboy dumplings and even Banana and Nutella, Dumpling Mama prides itself on its handmade approach and vibrant recipes passed down through generations. Edinburgh to host 'rare' Renaissance sketch collection
The full collection includes 80 sketches by 57 different artists. Lauren Porter, curator of Drawing the Italian Renaissance in Edinburgh, said: 'The Royal Collection holds one of the finest collections of Italian Renaissance drawings, many of which were acquired during the reign of Charles II. "The drawings cannot be on permanent display because of their sensitivity to light, so this exhibition offers a rare and exciting opportunity for visitors to see a wide variety of works from this great collection, many of which are on display in Scotland for the first time. 'Drawings were fundamental to the art of the Renaissance, allowing artists to conceive and explore ideas, refine their designs and to experiment. Being able to view these drawings so closely will give visitors a unique insight into the minds of these great Italian Renaissance artists.' Two Artists in Residence will be drawing in the Gallery throughout the run, in collaboration with the Edinburgh College of Art. The oldest drawing in the collection is more than 550 years old, and depicts a young man sitting alongside a sleeping dog. A da Vinci drawing of a curly-haired young man on red paper will be shown in Scotland for the first time. Visitors receiving Universal Credit or other named benefits will be able to access the gallery for only £1. Further discounted tickets are available for young people and there is half-price entry for children (with under-fives free).
