With the 2025 Stanley Cup Final officially underway, it's time to gear up for the second most important competition: NHL's "Stanley Pup."
The friendly fixture celebrating the 2025 Stanley Cup Final will feature 32 adoptable rescue dogs "showing their canine skills on ice." Dogs for the competition, now in its second year, have been provided by national nonprofit organization Petco Love through their shelter partners across the country "to spotlight the joy of pet adoption."
'We were thrilled with the success of the first-ever 'Stanley Pup' in 2024 and because of the amazing response from audiences watching at home, the NHL is excited to bring it back this season with even more rescue dogs,' NHL Content and Events President Steve Mayer said in a statement. "We can't wait to see what fun this year's friendly competition brings as the 'players' hit the Stanley Pup rink.'
Mark Shunock and Chris Rose will offer the play-by-play commentary during the event, which will feature special appearances by celebrity dog lovers including Tim Allen, Cedric the Entertainer, Cheri Oteri, George Lopez, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Bublé, Nikki Glaser, Paula Abdul and Will Reeve. A pig will sing the national anthem during the event and cats will DJ.

Blackhawks acquire Andre Burakovsky from Kraken in exchange for fellow forward Joe Veleno
CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Blackhawks acquired Andre Burakovsky from the Seattle Kraken on Saturday in exchange for fellow forward Joe Veleno. Chicago also placed defenseman T.J. Brodie on unconditional waivers for purposes for buying out his contract. Burakovsky, 30, had 10 goals and 27 assists in 79 games with Seattle last season. A Stanley Cup champion with Washington in 2018 and Colorado in 2022, he has 153 goals and 234 assists in 696 regular-season games over 11 NHL seasons. The acquisition of Burakovsky gives Chicago some additional size and scoring, and the trade creates more flexibility for Seattle with the salary cap. The 6-foot-3 Burakovsky was selected by Washington with the No. 23 pick in the 2013 draft. He signed a five-year, $27.5 million contract with Seattle in July 2022. Veleno, 25, was traded from Detroit to Chicago in March. He finished with eight goals and nine assists in 74 games last season. The 6-1 Veleno has 38 goals and 43 assists in 306 career regular-season games. He has a cap hit of $2.275 million for next season in the final year of his contract. Brodie, 35, agreed to a $7.5 million, two-year contract with Chicago last summer. He had two goals and eight assists in 54 games last season. ___ AP NHL:

Carolina Hurricanes re-sign Eric Robinson for 4 years after his most productive NHL season
RALEIGH, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes have re-signed depth forward Eric Robinson to a four-year contract worth $6.8 million. General manager Eric Tulsky announced the extension Friday. Robinson will count $1.7 million against the salary cap through the 2028-29 NHL season. The Bellmawr, New Jersey, native set career highs with 14 goals, 18 assists and 32 points this past season after joining the Hurricanes as a free agent. Robinson had three points in 15 games on their run to the Eastern Conference final, which ended with a series loss to the eventual Stanley Cup-champion Florida Panthers. 'It's no surprise to us that Eric had his best professional season last year with Carolina,' Tulsky said. 'His size and speed make him an excellent fit for the way we want to play.' Carolina has made the playoffs seven consecutive years since Rod Brind'Amour took over as coach. Robinson's only previous playoff experience in the league came in the 2020 bubble with Columbus. Robinson, 30, has played 413 NHL regular-season and playoff games with the Blue Jackets, Buffalo Sabres and Hurricanes since debuting in 2018.
