It's doubtful if there's any other couple in Bollywood whose every aspect of life makes as big headlines as Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan's does. From their adorable moments together and their bond with daughter Aaradhya to reports of Aishwarya's alleged tiff with other members of the Bachchan family and persistent rumours that the two are heading for a separation, anything and everything related to the couple quickly becomes a hot topic.
Not just the latest updates, even their old photos and videos often go viral on social media, winning the attention and hearts of fans. Having tied the knot in April 2007, they've been married for 18 years now. Interestingly, Abhishek's proposal was as filmy as their lives, with him making the move while they were in The Big Apple for the premiere of ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam's Guru, wherein the two of them shared the screen. After she said yes, Abhishek apparently called home right away to share the news with his parents.
Once, Abhishek's father, legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, shared his reaction upon learning about his son's engagement. In a past interview, he shared: 'Abhishek and Aishwarya are fond of each other. In New York, after the premiere of Guru, Abhishek called me and said that he had proposed to her. I said, 'Come on home.' I asked Aishwarya if she was happy. She said yes. I picked them up and took her home. I told her, this is your home. Humko kya lena dena hai aur kuch se? (What do we have to do with anything else?)'
Interestingly, Abhishek himself once shared the motivation behind his decision to ask for her hand in marriage in New York. 'I was filming in New York for a movie and I used to stand on the balcony of my hotel room and wish that one day, you know, wouldn't it be nice if I was together with her, married. So I took her to the very same balcony and I asked her to marry me,' he said during their joint appearance on Oprah Winfrey's show. Clearly moved by this, Aishwarya added, 'That was sweet. It was very real at the same time.'
