Irish ticket holder lands €250m Euromillions jackpot, and it's a shop-bought ticket

The Irish winner of the enormous €250m Euromillions jackpot – the biggest Irish lottery win in history – bought their ticket in a shop and not online, it can be confirmed.
The record-breaking win surpasses the €175m record for the largest cheque ever presented to an Irish player in February 2019.
The winning numbers were: 13, 22, 23, 44 ,49 and the Lucky Stars were 3 and 5.
It has not yet been confirmed where the winning ticket was sold, but the National Lottery has urged the winner 'to stay calm, get independent legal and financial advice and contact us as soon as they can'.
The lucky ticketholder is Ireland's 18th winner of the EuroMillions in Ireland. Dolores McNamara from Limerick, was Ireland's first and biggest EuroMillions winner scooping over €115 million in July 2005.
The jackpot is capped once it reaches €250 million.
Speaking on Wednesday morning, National Lottery spokesperson Emma Monaghan said the holder of the winning ticket is still yet to come forward.
Ms Monaghan confirmed the winning ticket was purchased in a retail store somewhere in Ireland and said more information on the location where it was bought will be released in the coming days.
'So, shortly after the draw last night, a small number of people internally got word that it was an Irish winner, so it was all hands-on deck last night,' she told RTÉ's Morning Ireland.
'But we're delighted with it. We're delighted for the winner. I mean, it's just such great news for our players and they've now become the highest ever winner of an Irish National Lottery game. So, that is some title to hold.'
She said the National Lottery's prize claims team opens from 9am this morning and as of yet, the lucky winner is yet to make contact.
'At the moment we're just urging everyone to check their tickets very carefully this morning. If they are holding the winning ticket, the most important thing they can do is to sign the back of it and keep it somewhere safe. And the next step then is to contact our prize team.
'I don't know who has won it, but somebody out there is holding the winning ticket. In terms of location, what I can tell you is that the winning ticket was bought in a retail store somewhere in Ireland.'
It is also unclear if the winning ticket was bought by an individual or a syndicate.

Ms Monaghan urged the winner of the 'eye-watering prize' to remain calm and 'have a cup of tea and just let it sink in'.
"We are absolutely thrilled to see this incredible and record win for an Irish EuroMillions player,' said National Lottery CEO Cian Murphy.
"We are advising our players to check their tickets and if they are the winner, sign the back of the ticket, keep it safe, and contact National Lottery HQ and we will guide you through the claims process.
"The details surrounding the winning ticket will be revealed over the coming days. With such a big win we have procedures to follow, but we will reveal the winning location as soon as we can.

Dublin Airport hit with enforcement notice over passenger cap breaches

More info Dublin Airport has blasted Ireland's "broken" planning system after it was hit with a two-year enforcement order for breaching its passenger cap. Airport operators daa say they have been waiting for a decision on both its infrastructure and operational applications - both of which would remove the current 32 million passenger cap - from An Bord Pleanala for five years. A spokesperson for daa has called for the removal of the passenger cap and an "urgent" overhaul of the current planning system. He said: "The fact that Fingal County Council is sending us an enforcement notice regarding 32 million passengers when passenger numbers will be north of 36 million this year and heading towards 40 million before the end of the decade is a sorry indictment of the mess that is the Irish planning system, particularly when it comes to the most vital piece of transport infrastructure on this island. The system is quite simply broken and needs to be overhauled urgently. "Until that happens our national airport is hamstrung and can't get on with its mandate to grow Ireland's connectivity. The passenger cap on Dublin Airport needs to be removed once and for all and the airport needs to be reclassified as national strategic infrastructure, with decisions made by a national planning body and not a local authority." DAA submitted a non-build application to the local authority in January which would allow it increase passenger capacity to 36 million. However, Fingal County Council declared this submission invalid and issued a request for further information which daa objected to. The council said the enforcement order issued today was in response to complaints received that the conditions were breached in 2023 and 2024. A spokesperson for the council said: 'The two-year period provides an opportunity for daa to progress their planning applications to increase passenger capacity at Dublin Airport or take such other steps as they consider appropriate to achieve compliance.' A Warning Letter was issued to daa providing them with an opportunity to respond. The airport operators responded to this letter but council officials said while it acknowledges the complexities presented it "does not constitute sufficient grounds to prevent further action" The council added: "The investigation has determined that a breach of the relevant planning conditions has occurred and remains ongoing. Fingal County Council, in accordance with its legal obligations as the Planning Authority, has issued an Enforcement Notice under Section 154 of the Planning and Development Act 2000.
