Is a new increase in Egypt's fuel prices imminent following the Prime Minister's statements?

Rising fuel prices in Egypt have become a growing public concern, especially following Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly's statements during the weekly cabinet meeting which raised questions about the possibility of completely lifting fuel subsidies before the end of 2025.
As markets await the decision of the Automatic Petroleum Pricing Committee in April, expectations vary regarding the possibility of a new increase in fuel prices, given ongoing economic pressures and rising global oil prices, as well as fluctuations in the US dollar exchange rate against the Egyptian pound.
Is there a date for the fuel price increases?
According to the government's announced policies, the Automatic Pricing Committee meets every three months to review fuel prices, and the new prices are expected to be announced in April.
This step comes as part of the government's plan to achieve gradual balance between fuel costs and their actual price, according to official statements.
Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed al-Homsany confirmed during a phone interview with the 'Sada al-Balad' TV channel that the state will continue to subsidize diesel and butane gas even with the increase in octane prices, given their direct impact on the prices of daily goods and services for citizens.
Current octane and diesel prices in Egypt:
95-Octane: LE17 per liter.
92-Octane: LE15.25 per liter.
80-Octane: LE13.75 per liter.
Diesel: LE13.50 per liter.
Kerosene: LE13.50 per liter.
Mazut for industries: LE9,500 per ton.
Natural gas price for vehicle fueling: Seven LE per cubic meter.
Current Butane cylinder prices in Egypt:
12.5 kg cylinder: Official price LE 150, and sold at some retailers for LE 170.
25 kg cylinder: Official price LE 200, and sold for LE 220.
Will subsidies be lifted on diesel and butane gas?
The Prime Minister confirmed that the government is seeking to gradually lift subsidies on petroleum derivatives, but partial subsidies will remain in place for diesel and butane gas cylinders.
He also explained that the difference will be made up from the profit margin of other products, without impacting low-income citizens.

Egypt FM tackles catastrophic conditions in Gaza, Israel-Iran military conflict with OIC ministers - Foreign Affairs

Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a series of high-level bilateral meetings on Sunday in Istanbul on the sidelines of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers summit. Talks focused on urgent regional challenges, including the intensifying Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, the protracted Yemeni crisis, Red Sea security, and the escalating military confrontation between Israel and Iran, according to statements from Egypt's foreign ministry. In a meeting with his Yemeni counterpart, Shaye Al-Zindani, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's support for Yemen's internationally recognized government and emphasized the urgent need to resume intra-Yemeni dialogue to achieve a comprehensive political settlement. He said such a resolution must be acceptable to all Yemeni factions, preserve national unity and legitimate institutions, and end the ongoing humanitarian crisis. He also underlined the connection between Yemen's stability and broader regional security. The ministers also discussed maritime security in the Red Sea—a key strategic concern for Egypt, given its direct bearing on national security. Abdelatty briefed Al-Zindani on Egypt's ongoing efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza amid worsening humanitarian conditions. The rising military escalation between Israel and Iran was also addressed, with Abdelatty warning against a slide into regional chaos and calling for de-escalation through diplomatic channels. Later in the day, Abdelatty held talks with Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Muhammad Ishaq Dar. Both officials voiced alarm over the growing Israel-Iran conflict, warning that continued escalation would deepen regional instability. Abdelatty reiterated the urgent need to halt military operations and pursue political and diplomatic avenues to prevent further violence. Earlier Sunday, the Egyptian minister met separately with his Algerian and Bangladeshi counterparts, Ahmed Attaf and Tawhid Hussein. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's commitment to securing a Gaza ceasefire, describing it as critical to de-escalation and restoring humanitarian aid access to the besieged territory. The meetings also examined the broader implications of the Israel-Iran standoff for regional security. Abdelatty stressed that political and diplomatic solutions remain the only viable path to avoid a broader conflagration in the Middle East. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:

President El-Sisi reviews outcomes of 1st tax facilities initiative - Economy

President El-Sisi made this outcome review during a meeting on Sunday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk. "According to Law No. 6 of 2025, the number of taxpayers who have applied to benefit from the tax incentives and facilitations for projects whose annual turnover does not exceed EGP 20 million has reached 52,901," Kouchouk said, according to a presidential statement. In September 2024, the government introduced the new tax facilitation package to support small businesses, startups, and freelancers and foster a more accessible and investor-friendly environment. The tax facilitation plan was then incorporated into Laws Nos. 5, 6, and 7, which were passed in February 2025. This integrated tax system was specifically designed for businesses with annual revenues not exceeding EGP 15 million, benefiting small and micro enterprises, entrepreneurs, freelancers, and professionals. The new framework has simplified the tax filing process, allowing businesses to submit or amend tax returns for 2021-2023 without incurring penalties. The Sunday meeting also discussed the latest developments regarding the Ministry of Finance's plan for international issuances for the fiscal year 2024/2025, aligning with efforts to reduce external debt for budgetary bodies. Preliminary indicators point to the government and the Ministry of Finance's success in reducing the external debt balance for budgetary bodies by $1 to $2 billion annually. Moreover, the meeting discussed the increasing volatility in international markets and the impact of geopolitical challenges, especially the war between Iran and Israel, on rising uncertainty in key global markets, particularly shipping and commodity prices. The meeting also discussed Egypt's financial performance from July 2024 to May 2025, highlighting the achievement of a large and strong primary surplus, the reduction of the overall deficit ratio, and strong and accelerated growth rates in tax revenues, reaching 36 percent due to improved economic activity. They also reviewed the primary targets for FY2024/2025, especially the debt ratio of general budgetary bodies to GDP (domestic and external), the development of tax revenues, the growth rate, the status of wages and employee compensations, and the status of goods and services purchases and interest payments. The Minister of Finance also highlighted efforts and developments related to monitoring the implementation of the IMF programme reforms and ongoing negotiations to approve the disbursement of the tranche related to the fifth review.

Egypt, Jordan warn against descending the region into greater chaos

File- Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty met with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi, on Feb. 1, 2025- press photo CAIRO – 22 June 2025: Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, received a phone call today, Sunday, June 22, from Mr. Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The call took place as part of ongoing coordination and consultation between the two nations regarding regional developments. The ministers discussed the rapidly escalating situation in the region, particularly the military tensions between Israel and Iran and the serious threat they pose to regional peace and security. Minister Abdelatty underscored the urgent need for de-escalation and a ceasefire, stressing that political and diplomatic solutions remain the only viable path to prevent a broader conflict that could endanger the stability of the region. Both ministers emphasized the importance of calm, self-restraint, and constructive dialogue to avoid further deterioration. They reaffirmed their rejection of any violations of the UN Charter or international law and underscored the necessity of respecting the sovereignty of states. They also warned of the grave risks of the region descending into greater chaos and instability amid the current tensions. U.S. President Donald Trump stated that American aircraft had conducted heavy airstrikes on several Iranian nuclear sites, including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. 'A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow,' Trump said. In response, Iran attacked Ben Gurion Airport, the system's biological research center, and alternative command and control centers. Tehran added that it used guided missiles, capable of maneuvering the warhead at the moment of landing, and guiding until the moment of impact, and equipped with highly explosive and destructive warheads of various types. Since the outbreak of the war between Iran and Israel on June 13, Egypt has exerted tremendous diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict in which hundreds of people were killed and thousands were injured. The war started when Israel, which has nuclear weapon and not a member of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), launched missile and drones towards Tehran and killed hundreds of nuclear scientists, military leaders and civilians to prevent Iran from having a nuclear weapon. Israeli missiles and drones have targeted several nuclear facilities in Natanz, Isfahan, Arak and Fordow, causing a minor level of radiation leakage in Natanz as it was reported by the International Atomic Energy Agency. Israel, which is totally backed by the US, seeks to be the only country in the region that has nuclear weapons. In retaliation, Iran fired hundreds hypersonic missiles and drones on Israel, causing severe damage to buildings besides the Weizmann Institute of Science, Haifa refinery, and the Gav-Yam Negev Advanced Technologies Park.
