Comelec: Random manual audit shows 99. 997% accuracy as of Friday afternoon
With the random manual audit (RMA) of the automated elections nearing its completion, Commission on Elections chairman George Garcia on Friday said that the RMA has so far indicated 99.997% accuracy by the machines used in Eleksyon 2025.
Some 762 ballot boxes have been chosen for the RMA.
"So far, of the 723 na ballot boxes subject of the random manual audit, so far naman 99.997% 'yung accuracy ng atin pong machine... yung count ng machine saka nung manual counting," Garcia said in a news conference on Friday afternoon.
Garcia said the statistics of the completed audit are expected to be done on Monday.
The accuracy of RMA for the 2022 elections stood at 99.94%.
In May, the Comelec officially kicked off the RMA for 762 randomly selected clustered precincts and one online voting post for the 2025 national and local elections. It was slated to last up to 45 days.
During the RMA, 60 auditing teams from the Department of Education were tasked to check the performance of the automated counting machines (ACMs) and examine the ballots from the clustered precincts to validate their accuracy.
Section 29 of the Automated Election System (AES) Act states that 'there shall be a random manual audit in one precinct per congressional district randomly chosen by the Commission in each province and city' where the automated election system is used.
The RMA maintained a 99.9% accuracy rate since the 2010 automated elections, Garcia added. –NB, GMA Integrated News

PDP-Laban seeks manual recount of Eleksyon 2025 senatorial votes
The PDP-Laban on Monday filed a petition seeking for a manual recount of senatorial votes in recently concluded midterm elections. PDP-Laban legal counsel Atty. Israelito Torreon filed the Motion For Leave To File Supplemental Petition for Mandamus with the Supreme Court. 'What is essential is that the mandated process under our prevailing election laws be carried out, so that the truth may be known, accountability may be identified and exacted, and public confidence in the electoral process may be restored,' the PDP-Laban stated in its petition. Torreon was accompanied by singer-lawyer Jimmy Bondoc, who ran but lost in the 2025 senatorial polls. To recall, Vice President Sara Duterte claimed that there was fraud in the recent elections, saying that three more PDP bets 'won.' During an Independence Day event with Filipinos in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Duterte said she spoke to IT experts who said it was impossible that the numbers that came out in the elections were true. She urged PDP to question how the counting process was done. The two PDP-Laban bets who won in the recent midterm elections were reelectionists Christopher 'Bong' Go and Ronald 'Bato' dela Rosa. Meanwhile, House member Rodante Marcoleta, who also won, was endorsed by the PDP. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News For more Eleksyon 2025 related content and updates, visit GMA News Online's Eleksyon 2025 microsite.

VP Sara: PH not ready for war as Marcos admin lacks plan, direction
The Philippines is ill-equipped for war or any "global shock" due to the Marcos administration's lack of plan and direction, Vice President Sara Duterte said Sunday. Duterte made the statements in a speech to supporters during a 'Free Duterte Now' rally in Melbourne, Australia. 'We are not prepared for drawing change, we are not prepared for war, we are not prepared for global shock because there is no plan at all, there is no vision at all,' said Duterte who is in the country on a personal visit. 'I've been a member of the cabinet, and there was no direction at all, so we need to come together and push for the administration to give what is rightfully for the country,' she added. Duterte also expressed her disapproval of the United States deployment of the Typhon missile system in the Philippines. Instead, she maintained the Philippines should not take sides and should balance its foreign relations with different countries. 'Iyong problema natin sa West Philippine Sea, does not make up our entire relations with China. And so, therefore, there is no reason for you to lean towards the US. You have to always stay in the middle because you are not a part of the bigger conflict,' Duterte said. Aside from being elected Vice President, Duterte was also the secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) until she quit in June 2024. Among the criticism she also leveled at the government, the Vice President also decried what she claims is the country's inefficiency in climate resilience and the lack of a long-term plan to make the country self-sufficient in food. 'We don't take care of our farmers. We don't have a food security plan, and it is already the midterm of this administration, with no plans of doing plans, of creating plans. Nothing,' Duterte said. She noted that the administration should focus on the country's healthcare system, infrastructure development, food security, and education. GMA News Online has reached out to Malacañang for comments. Better legacy The Vice President explained that she teamed up with Marcos during the 2022 national elections since she thought he wanted a 'better' legacy compared to his father, former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr. 'Ang buong akala ko dahil syempre diba (the whole time, I thought because) we had that dark past in our country and the principal figure of that was Marcos Sr, so I was thinking that he would want a legacy that is better than what we had before,' Duterte said, referring to the Martial Law during the elder Marcos' regime from 1972 to 1986. 'Unfortunately, I did not bet properly with my running mate, but you know I'm sure you have doubts with the Marcoses already,' she added. However, Duterte defended the President's sister, Senator Imee Marcos, whom she said had been her friend since 2012. 'Senator Imee Marcos is a different individual altogether, and she has been my friend since 2012. I met BBM in 2020 when they visited Davao City,' Duterte said. Just two years after the Uniteam's successful campaign in the 2022 national elections, Duterte, who originally wanted to assume the post of defense secretary, stepped down from her post in DepEd. She also resigned from Lakas-CMD as its chairperson and a member, saying that she won't be able to serve the country amid "political toxicity' or undermined by "execrable political powerplay." The Vice President is now facing an impeachment complaint, which includes issues surrounding the use of confidential funds, unexplained wealth, and alleged involvement in extrajudicial killings in Davao City. The complaint also includes her 'assassination' remarks against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and Speaker Martin Romualdez. —RF, GMA Integrated News

Comelec disqualifies Anarna as Silang, Cavite mayor
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc has disqualified and annulled the proclamation of Alston Kevin Anarna as mayor of Silang, Cavite in Eleksyon 2025. This developed after the poll body en banc granted a motion for reconsideration (MR) filed by former Silang Mayor Ted Carranza, which seeks to reverse a ruling of the Comelec First Division, dismissing the petition for disqualification he lodged against Anarna. Carranza filed the disqualification petition on the grounds of a October 2024 decision of the Ombudsman, dismissing Anarna from public office for grave misconduct and serious dishonesty. It also perpetually disqualified him from holding public office. In his MR, the former mayor prayed for the reversal of the assailed order, explaining he failed to copy furnish the respondent with the copy of the petition due to inadvertence of the firm's newly hired personnel. Carranza also argued the Comelec can motu proprio bar a candidate suffering from perpetual disqualification and delist as a candidate of the May midterm polls. 'To permit a candidate who is administratively disqualified to run for office would render the constitutional and statutory sanctions imposed by the Ombudsman inutile, effectively frustrating the ends of administrative discipline and making a mockery of the electoral process,' the five-page decision reads. 'It bears emphasis that Comelec, as a constitutional commission, is duty-bound to protect the sanctity of elections and ensure that only qualified and eligible individuals are allowed to run for public office,' it added. The Comelec en banc ordered the disqualification and voiding of Anarna's proclamation and directed the votes cast in his favor to be considered as stray. It also instructed the Municipal Board of Canvassers to reconvene and proclaim the winning candidate. 'Gross violation of constitutional right' Lawyer Emil Marañon, legal counsel of Anarna, said their camp will file a petition for certiorari with the Supreme Court (SC) to reverse the decision, which he said is a 'gross violation' of this constitutional right to due process of Anarna. Marañon said their camp allegedly did not receive any notice of the suit, summon, and answer from the Comelec. 'This is of course not only vulgarly illegal, but a gross violation of the constitutional right to due process of Mayor Anarna. In fact, this procedural travesty has never ever happened in the history of the Comelec,' he said. 'That while we are still in the process of studying this case, it appears that the case has been based on the equally erroneous Joint Decision of the Office of the Ombudsman dated October 9, 2024 in the consolidated cases docketed as OMB-C-A-APR-24-0025, OMB-C-A-APR-24-0026 and OMB-C-A-JUN-24-0053 which remains non-final to this day, and still pending resolution before the Court of Appeals. Obviously, candidates can be 'disqualified' only on the basis of a final decision,' said Marañon. He added: 'Definitely, we will elevate this case to the Supreme Court by way of a Petition for Certiorari and we are very confident that this will easily be reversed.' — RSJ, GMA Integrated News For more Eleksyon 2025 related content and updates, visit GMA News Online's Eleksyon 2025 microsite.
