Four wagers for the last two days of Royal Ascot

My main fancies for Royal Ascot this year have all run in the first three days and the final two days look a lot harder to me in terms of finding good wagers. Winning money from the bookmakers is hard, giving it back to them is easy. I am therefore going to approach today and tomorrow with caution and have fewer bets.
In today's Group 1 Commonwealth Cup (3.05 p.m.) over six furlongs, Shadow of Light and Jonquil have been heavily backed as both horses drop back in trip from a mile. The former was third in the Betfred 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, while the latter was second in the equivalent French race at Longchamp.
Both horses clearly have strong form but I prefer to side with a proven sprinter in the shape of BABOUCHE, who has winning Group 1 form from Ireland last year and who was impressive last time out at Naas when winning a Group 3 contest, beating the odds-on Whistlejacket very comfortably.
I hope this three-year-old filly can continue to improve for the Ger Lyons/Coline Keane trainer/jockey combination and I would be surprised if she is out of the frame today. Back her 1 point each way at 4-1 with bet365 or SkyBet, both paying a generous five places (she is 9-2 elsewhere paying one place less).
Trainer Emma Lavelle is best known for her exploits over jumps but when she turns her hand to the flat her runners are always worth a second look. Silver Ghost is an improving horse and must have a chance of landing today's Sandringham Stakes (5 p.m.) at Royal Ascot. However, the handicapper has raised Silver Ghost 8lbs for her comfortable win at Goodwood last time out and that may prevent her from landing her hat-trick.
Twenty-five three-year-old fillies are due to line up for this one-mile contest which is worth more than £56,000 to the winner and I am going to side with Ed Bethell's unusually named OOLONG POOBONG, who won with plenty in hand at Haydock last time out over seven furlongs. Jockey Connor Beasley keeps the ride today and the extra furlong should be within his mount's reach. Back Oolong Poobong 1 point each way at 11-1 with Betfred, Paddy Power, Betfair and Unibet, all offering six places.
At a much bigger price in the same race, I am going to take a chance on Owen Burrows' second string SEA POETRY, who is lightly raced and open to improvement. She would ideally want the going softer than it is today having won on her racecourse debut at Newmarket last year with cut in the ground. She has been second in both starts since.
However, at big odds, I am prepared to take the risk on her being able to handle this quick ground and so the suggestion is 1 point each way at 50-1 with bet365, paying six places. Odds of 10-1 that he will reach the first six seem more than fair, although her draw in stall 9 may not be ideal.
I have already put up Elite Status each way at 25-1 for tomorrow's Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes (4.20 p.m.) but I was hoping this race would cut up more than it has. Furthermore, trainer Karl Burke's horse have not been in sparkling form this week but the bet is on so let's hope for the best.
However, I now want to go into this race double-handed in this race with the six-year-old French raider TOPGEAR for the Christopher Head/Stephane Pasquier trainer/jockey combination.
This six-year-old is on a four-timer tomorrow after comfortably winning on his seasonal debut, a Grade 3 contest at Longchamp over seven furlongs. This stiff six furlongs at Ascot should be ideal for him and, although most of his best form is with cut in the going, his handler insists his horse is versatile ground-wise. Back him a point each way at 7-1 with SkyBet, offering five places rather than at 8-1, less places, with other firms.
That's it for a week of tipping at this glorious event. As usual with betting every day at these big meetings, there have been plenty of highs and lows but fortunately more of the former than the latter, with three decent-priced winners and some other placed horses at big odds too.
I am pleased to say that my tips this week will have shown a healthy profit overall even if these five wagers for today and tomorrow, including the one from last Friday, all bomb (and hopefully that will not happen). The once star rider who won the Grand National over jumps and Gold Cup on the Flat, but now has no movement from the neck down, has opened up about the challenges he now faces Graham Lee has revealed he is holding on to a 'glimmer of light' that could put an end to the brutal reality of his life since he suffered life-changing injuries in a racing fall. The 49-year-old was left paralysed from the neck down after sustaining an unstable cervical fracture which damaged his spinal cord when he came off exiting the stalls at Newcastle in November 2023. Lee was a highly successful jockey who became the only rider to win both the Grand National at Aintree and Gold Cup at Royal Ascot during a career in which he excelled at both jumps and on the Flat. ‌ Now he needs round-the-clock care and regularly visits Jack Berry House in Malton, Yorkshire, the Injured Jockeys' Fund rehab facility which celebrated its tenth anniversary this year. ‌ Funds are also being raised for the ex-jockey through the The Graham Lee Racing Club. Club horse We've Got This won for the first time at Redcar on Friday. Lee's latest visit to Jack Berry House was to attend the ten year anniversary celebration event. "This is an amazing place run by amazing people," he said, in a Racing Post interview."Racing can be a very lonely place. As a jockey, you're permanently hungry, you're doing loads of miles and you have to deal with defeat every day. 'Racing can be tough but when you get something like what happened to me, it comes together like no other sport. I've been humbled by the support and love I've received. I've been blown away by it, to be honest." Lee, who rode Amberleigh House to win the 2004 Grand National and Trip To Paris to win the Gold Cup in 2015, went on to describe his new life, which in September last year close friend Sir Anthony McCoy said was 'horrific'. ‌ Lee said: 'Don't get me wrong, I know there are people worse off than me, but with my injury, every day is groundhog day. "You think, how am I going to get through today? You see no light at the end of the tunnel. No matter how small the tunnel is, you don't see a glimmer, but then Becks found something on Facebook the other day about an operation you can have in China. 'After Jack read about it, he said, 'It looks like we're going to China, then'. I wouldn't think it will happen but it's a glimmer of light, a little bit of hope." ‌ He went on: "I was a very moderate rider who was told, 'You can't and you won't,' but yet I did. I had lots of broken bones and plenty of head injuries along the way but my body always overcame the obstacles. It always healed. This ain't healing. "That makes me angry at my body, which is probably very unfair because my body is okay, it's just the spinal cord that is broken. I'm angry because in the past my body collapsed but then came back. At the minute, there is no coming back. "When you're a jockey, you always dream of getting on that one horse who will take you to the next level. My situation is the same. I'm hoping and I'm dreaming. That's what keeps us going. "I'm just hoping that somewhere, some day, there will be that glimmer of light."

Chelsea open talks to sign £76m star ahead of Man Utd and Tottenham

Chelsea have opened talks to sign Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports in France. The bizarre Celtic transfer act of Said Hamulic as striker finally set for Premiership switch

The Tannadice outfit have agreed a season-long loan deal with Toulouse Said Hamulic has never been one to shy away from headlines but Jim Goodwin will be hoping it will be his goals for Dundee United that will have everybody talking. United have agreed a season-long loan deal with Toulouse for the Bosnia and Herzegovina striker and that deal could be finalised in the next 48 hours. ‌ The 24-year-old has been with the French side for two years but has struggled to make his mark and after disappointing loan spells at Vitesse, Lokomotiv Moscow and Widow Lodz he will be looking to get back on track with Goodwin's Euro-bound squad. ‌ Hamulic is no stranger to Scotland as he was on Celtic r adar back in 2023 before he made the move to Ligue 1. The Dutch-born forward had come to the fore after a goal-filled loan spell at Polish side Stal Mielec. Hamulic, who had been loaned out from Lithuanian side Dainava to Poland, netted an impressive nine goals and pitched in with four assists in just 19 appearances. It made him hot property and the player certainly thought he was close to sealing a move to Celtic. A bizarre 'Said Hamulic, welcome to Celtic video' with a show reel of his career highlights was briefly posted on his Instagram account before it was quickly removed. A few weeks later, it was Toulouse who sealed a deal when they agreed to pay £2million to land him. ‌ The Bosnian never got his move to Scotland at that point but is finally set to get a crack at the Scottish Premiership in the tangerine and black of Dundee United. Hamulic moved to Toulouse in the January of 2023 but made just nine appearances and failed to net. He did end up with a Coupe de France winner' medal, as an unused sub as Toulouse beat Nantes 5-1. ‌ The frontman then made headlines as he was one of three players at Toulouse who were alleged to have refused to wear a rainbow flag on their club shirt, which was part of a campaign by the French Football Federation. Zakaia Aboukhlal was left on the bench while Moussa Diarra and Hamulic were left out of the squad for the match against Nantes. The 2022-23 season was to finish on a high as he got his first taste of international football with Bosnia and Herzegovina. ‌ He won the first of his six caps against Luxembourg in that June. There was the hope that could help spark his career in Toulouse the following season but he was sent back to his country of birth and a loan spell with Vitesse to try and get him to rediscover his form. It didn't go the way either side hoped. He failed to score in 14 appearances and in January his loan was terminated. ‌ Hamulic, though, always remained confident and Goodwin will be hoping that continues at Tannadice and also seeps on to the pitch. Hamulic said: "I don't know if I will stay in Toulouse. 'I don't know what the plans are and what will happen. When I get home, I'll think about it. ‌ 'It was a difficult season for me, also mentally. 'But when you look at my career, I always come back stronger. This will also be the case next season." ‌ He went to Lokomotiv Moscow but played one game as his loan was wrecked by injury. Last season he went out on loan to Polish side Widzew Lodz but again injury curtailed him. He netted once in 13 games and also pitched in with three assists. The goals haven't exactly been free-flowing for Hamulic since he moved to France. ‌ But if they had, then he would have been out of United's financial grasp. Goodwin, along with fellow new striker Zac Sapsford, is now going to give him an opportunity to get back to his best. It is quite similar to Sam Dalby. Before he came up on loan to United, he had hardly had a prolific strike rate but ended up amongst the Premiership's top scorers. Goodwin will be hoping Hamulic can do something similar.
