Oil Holds Advance as Trump Spurs Middle East Escalation Concerns

Mint4 days ago

Oil steadied after rallying around 10% since Israel started its attacks on Iran last week, as speculation the US may join the conflict stoked concerns about supply disruptions in the Middle East.
Brent traded near $77 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate was above $75 after closing at the highest level in almost five months on Tuesday. President Donald Trump demanded Iran's 'UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER' and warned of a possible strike against the country's leader — Ayatollah Ali Khamenei — in a social media post, before meeting with his national security team.
Iran's crude-exporting infrastructure has been spared so far, and most of the fallout has been confined to shipping. The Middle East produces around a third of the world's oil and a wider conflict could drive prices even higher.
The hostilities have rattled global markets, with investors seeking havens in assets such as gold, and oil volatility surging to a three-year high. Brent's prompt spread has spiked, signaling concerns around tightening supply, and options are more bullish than after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The biggest concern for the oil market centers on the Strait of Hormuz, although there are no signs that Tehran is seeking to disrupt shipping through the narrow waterway at the entrance to the Persian Gulf. About a fifth of the world's crude output passes through the strait, including from Saudi Arabia.
'Trump's demand for Iran's 'unconditional surrender' and threats against its supreme leader signal diplomacy is off the table,' said Charu Chanana, chief investment strategist at Saxo Markets Ltd. in Singapore. A 'worst-case scenario blockade of Hormuz, could send prices sharply higher,' she added.
Israel launched surprise attacks on Iran's nuclear sites late last week, but American weapons are seen as crucial to achieving a more complete destruction of Tehran's atomic program than anything it can do alone.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sought to draw the US — which has provided defensive support against Iranian missile fire — deeper into the conflict. He told ABC News on Monday that the countries share a common enemy in Iran, and that it's in America's interest to support Israel.
Iran has prepared missiles and other military equipment for strikes on US bases in the Middle East should the nation join Israel's war against the country, the New York Times reported, citing unidentified American officials who have reviewed intelligence reports.
Meanwhile, US industry figures showed the nation's crude inventories fell by more than 10 million barrels last week. That would be the biggest decline since last summer if confirmed by official data later on Wednesday.

Iran-Israel war: Tehran fires missiles at Israel after U.S strikes; Israel launches counterattacks

A short time ago, the US military carried out massive precision strikes on the three key nuclear facilities in the Iranian regime, Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Everybody heard those names for years as they built this horribly destructive enterprise. Our objective was the destruction of Iran's nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world's number one state sponsor of terror. Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success. Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated. Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must now make peace. If they do not, future attacks will be far greater and a lot easier. For 40 years, Iran has been saying, death to America, death to Israel. They have been killing our people, blowing off their arms, blowing off their legs with roadside bombs – that was their speciality. We lost over a thousand people, and hundreds of thousands throughout the Middle East and around the world have died as a direct result of their hate, in particular, so many were killed by their general, Qassem Soleiman. I decided a long time ago that I would not let this happen. It will not continue. I want to thank and congratulate Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu. We worked as a team like perhaps no team has ever worked before, and we've gone a long way to erasing this horrible threat to Israel. I want to thank the Israeli military for the wonderful job they've done, and most importantly, I want to congratulate the great American patriots who flew those magnificent machines tonight, and all of the United States military on an operation the likes of which the world has not seen in many, many decades. Hopefully, we will no longer need their services in this capacity. I hope that's so. I also want to congratulate the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan 'Razin' Caine – spectacular general – and all of the brilliant military minds involved in this attack. With all of that being said, this cannot continue. There will be either peace or there will be tragedy for Iran far greater than we have witnessed over the last eight days. Remember, there are many targets left. Tonight's was the most difficult of them all by far, and perhaps the most lethal, but if peace does not come quickly, we will go after those other targets with precision, speed, and skill. Most of them can be taken out in a matter of minutes. There's no military in the world that could have done what we did tonight, not even close. There has never been a military that could do what took place just a little while ago. Tomorrow, General Caine, Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth, will have a press conference at 8 am at the Pentagon, and I want to just thank everybody, and in particular, God. I want to just say we love you, God, and we love our great military. Protect them. God bless the Middle East. God bless Israel, and God bless America. Thank you very much. Thank you.

Trump warns Iran of retaliatory action after US bombed 3 nuclear sites with 'bunker busting' bombs - The Economic Times Video

On June 21, 2025, the United States conducted airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. While confirming the USAF action, President Donald Trump described the operation as "successful," stating that B-2 stealth bombers, likely carrying GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator "bunker buster" bombs, targeted these sites, with a focus on the heavily fortified Fordow facility. The strikes were part of an escalation in the Israel-Iran conflict, with the U.S. directly joining Israel's efforts to disrupt Iran's nuclear program.

"Hope it will lead to a better future for Middle East": Israeli President thanks US after "precision" strikes in Iran

Tel Aviv [Israel], June 22 (ANI): Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Sunday, thanked US President Donald Trump for the 'brave step' taken by the United States of America in conducting strikes on three nuclear sites of Iran. Herzog said that the strikes show how the principles of 'liberty, responsibility and security' have triumphed, with the American action resulting as a brave step towards the security and safety of the world. He expressed hope that the action would help fasten the release of Israeli hostages and lead to a better future in West Asia. Herzog wrote on X, 'In the pages of human history, this is a moment when the principles of liberty, responsibility, and security have triumphed. A decisive moment between the axis of terror and evil and the axis of hope. Thank you, @POTUS @realDonaldTrump. Thank you, United States of America. This brave step serves the security and safety of the entire free world. I hope it will lead to a better future for the Middle East -- and help advance the urgent release of our hostages held in captivity in Gaza.' \ His remarks follow after Trump announced that United States conducted 'massive precision strikes' on the three key nuclear facilities in Iran- Fordow, Natanz and Esfahan. Trump also threatened of retaliation if peace is not achieved soon in Iran. The Embassy of Iran in India acknowledged that the sites had been hit and called it 'savage aggression--an act in violation of international laws', stressing particularly on the NPT. It further accused the the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of indifference and complicity and said that it expects the international community to condemn these actions. As per a report in the CNN citing a US official, the US used six B-2 bombers to drop a dozen 'bunker buster' bombs on the Fordow nuclear site. Navy submarines fired 30 TLAM cruise missiles at two other sites, Natanz and Isfahan, and a B2 dropped two bunker busters on Natanz. The underground site at Fordow and the larger Natanz plant were Iran's two primary uranium enrichment facilities, out of which Natanz had already been hit by Israel with smaller weapons earlier in the week, the New York Times reported. The conflict between Israel and Iran entered its ninth day on Saturday, with the US now joining in support of Israel. The conflict started after Israel, on June 13, launched a massive airstrike on Iranian military and nuclear sites, dubbed 'Operation Rising Lion.' In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a large-scale drone and missile operation, 'Operation True Promise 3', targeting Israeli fighter jet fuel production facilities and energy supply centres.
