Railway officials would now travel on trains to inspect cleanliness, amenities, and safety, aiming to boost passenger confidence and ensure better service nationwide
Indian Railways has launched a new campaign to enhance passenger facilities by having railway officials travel on trains to inspect and address shortcomings first-hand. Passengers might find that the person sitting next to them is a railway official who could seek feedback during the journey.
These officials will check amenities such as toilets, charging points, lights, fans, availability of water, and cleanliness. If any deficiencies are found, the responsible officer must take immediate action.
This campaign is part of Indian Railways' vision to prioritise passenger convenience and quality service, aimed at boosting passenger confidence and ensuring smoother, safer journeys.
The campaign has begun in the Prayagraj division, where a team of 25 employees inspected 50 trains, uncovering several issues. This initiative will soon be extended to other railway divisions as well.
Plan For Better Facilities
The Prayagraj division is committed to providing passengers with clean toilets, pure drinking water, good food, and a comfortable journey. To curb ticketless travel and irregularities, the railway is also conducting ticket inspections at stations and onboard trains.
Inspections Conducted On Multiple Trains
Following directions from Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Coaching) Himanshu Shukla, 25 commercial inspectors carried out inspections on 50 trains, including train numbers 14163, 14113, 14114, 14116, 20403, 12403, 12417, 12275/76, 04125, 04154, 20404, 04121, 14117, 04152, 04141, 04138, 22431, 22432, 04156, 12418, 14118, 22437/38, 20433, 20434, 04126, 14164, 04115, 04116, 14115, and 12404.
The inspections focused on the cleanliness of coaches, toilets, lights, fans, air conditioning, water supply, linen, and charging points. Shukla confirmed that this campaign will continue to address complaints received through Rail Madad.
Regular Station Checks And Ticket Inspections
In addition to train inspections, regular and surprise ticket checks will be conducted at stations, on trains, and along railway sections to prevent fare evasion. This will not only improve passenger facilities but also make railway operations more efficient.

US State Department Issues 'Worldwide Caution' For Americans As Israel-Iran Tensions Escalate

Last Updated: Travelers are advised to review the latest Travel Advisories, country-specific information, and security alerts before making any international travel plans. The US Department of State has issued a worldwide caution urging American citizens to exercise increased vigilance in light of the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. The ongoing hostilities have already led to disruptions in travel and intermittent airspace closures across the Middle East. Officials have also warned of the potential for demonstrations targeting U.S. citizens and interests abroad. Travelers are advised to review the latest Travel Advisories, country-specific information, and security alerts before making any international travel plans. The official statement made no reference to the United States' overnight intervention, during which American warplanes bombed multiple nuclear facilities in Iran, a strike that Tehran has warned could have 'irreparable consequences." In response to the unprecedented air raids, which the Pentagon claimed severely damaged Iran's nuclear infrastructure, the Islamic Republic issued direct threats against U.S. military assets in the region. On Sunday, Tehran warned that American bases across the Middle East could come under attack in retaliation. 'Any country in the region or elsewhere that is used by American forces to strike Iran will be considered a legitimate target for our armed forces," said Ali Akbar Velayati, senior advisor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a message published by IRNA, Iran's state news agency. All Chandigarh-origin trains to get safer LHB coaches by year-end

Chandigarh: In a major safety upgrade, the Indian Railways has announced that all the 17 trains originating from Chandigarh Railway Station will be equipped with Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches, replacing the older and less safe ICF (Integral Coach Factory) models. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The transition will be completed in five phases, with the first three trains to be upgraded in July, and the remaining two by December, 2025. Currently, 12 of the 17 trains operating from Chandigarh already run with LHB coaches. The remaining five will be upgraded in a phased manner to enhance passenger safety and comfort. Officials said that the shift to LHB (Linke-Hofmann-Busch) coaches was prompted by safety concerns with ICF coaches, which are a type of passenger coach used by Indian Railways. The LHB coaches are known for their enhanced safety features, improved ride quality, and higher speed potential compared to older ICF coaches. They are designed with anti-climbing features, axle-mounted disc brakes, and an anti-telescopic structure to minimise damage in case of collisions. These coaches also provide a smoother and quieter ride with more comfortable seating. LHB coaches, manufactured at the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala, are based on German technology and are considered safer and more efficient than their ICF counterparts. "Passenger safety is a top priority, and replacing ICF coaches is a crucial step toward ensuring safer travel. These LHB coaches are also equipped with better suspension systems, improved braking, and modern interiors," a senior railway official said. Railway officials reiterated that the move is aimed at ensuring passenger safety, operational efficiency, and a modern travel experience for commuters from Chandigarh. Air India suspends Pune-Singapore direct flight until July 15

Pune: Air India, which is under scrutiny from all quarters following the Ahmedabad plane crash, announced on Sunday that it suspended the direct Pune-Singapore flight until July 15. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The Pune-Singapore flight was launched by the erstwhile Vistara in Dec 2022. The flight, now operating as AI-2111, flew four days a week using an Airbus A-321 aircraft. It used to take off from Pune at 0210 hours (IST) and landed in Singapore at 10.30 hours (GMT). This flight was inaugurated online by former Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. The airline stated that this was part of its overall reduction in narrow-bodied operations by less than 5%. "This voluntary decision leads to the temporary suspension of Air India's services on three routes and a reduction in frequency on 19 routes. The changes are effective until at least July 15. These reductions aim to strengthen Air India's network-wide operational stability and minimise last-minute inconvenience to passengers," an airline press statement said. Other international flights suspended by Air India include a flight between Bengaluru and Singapore. Additionally, a domestic flight between Mumbai and Bagdogra has also been suspended. The frequency of 19 domestic flights, including one between Pune and Delhi, has been reduced. Amitabh Kumar, who was scheduled to fly to Singapore on the flight on Monday, wrote on X, "My Pune–Singapore direct flight on June 23 is cancelled now, and the alternative offered has delayed me by more than 8 hours. The airline informed me just 12 hours prior—no hotel, no care, no compensation," he wrote. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Sushil Arya, who was scheduled to fly on Sunday, said, "They just cancelled the flight a day before. Why has it been cancelled like this a day before?" he asked the airline on X and received the response that the cancellation was for operational reasons. "I have been trying to book the flight for Aug 25, but cannot see the flight. I don't understand whether it will be restored after July 15 or not," another flyer told TOI. The suspension of the flight has left Pune with just four direct international flights, down from five. "The flight was good and gave us the opportunity to travel not just to Singapore, but many other countries in Southeast Asia via Singapore. We hope that the flight is restored," Amol Dayal, a businessman, said.
