Kantara Chapter 1: Rishab Shetty, 30 Crew Members Escape Boat Mishap During Shoot In Karnataka
Last Updated:
Rishab Shetty and crew survive a boat accident on Kantara Chapter 1 sets at Mani reservoir. No injuries reported, but filming equipment was lost.
The much-anticipated Kantara Chapter 1 has once again made headlines, but this time, not for its cinematic brilliance or mythological depth. Actor-director Rishab Shetty and his crew recently encountered a harrowing accident while filming, adding another unexpected hurdle to the journey of this high-stakes prequel.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the scenic yet unpredictable waters of the Mani reservoir in Karnataka. A boat carrying Rishab and over 30 crew members capsized in the shallow area of the reservoir. Fortunately, despite the suddenness of the mishap, everyone onboard managed to escape unscathed, with no physical injuries reported.
While the team emerged physically unharmed, the equipment onboard did not share the same fate. Several cameras and essential gear are believed to have been lost to the water, dealing a significant blow to the ongoing production. Soon after the accident, the local Thirthahalli police arrived at the site to assess the situation. An investigation has been launched to determine what triggered the boat to overturn.
A senior member of the crew, quoted in a PTI report, confirmed the gravity of the situation. 'Everyone panicked as the boat capsized, but since the water level was not too deep, we were able to reach the shore safely," the crew member shared, highlighting the narrow escape.
This incident comes after a series of challenges that have plagued the shoot of Kantara Chapter 1. From previous disruptions to murmurs about the film's release date being postponed, the prequel to Rishab Shetty's 2022 blockbuster has seen its fair share of turbulence. Speculation around a possible delay to its scheduled October 2 release has been circulating for some time now, especially with the lack of regular updates from the team.
However, despite the setback, the makers have consistently reaffirmed that the film is on track. The team has reassured fans that Kantara Chapter 1 will arrive in theatres as planned, carrying forward the legacy of its critically acclaimed predecessor.
The accident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of filmmaking, especially when nature itself becomes a part of the set. As fans continue to await the next chapter in Rishab Shetty's cinematic universe, one can only hope that the remaining shoot proceeds without further incident.

The police confirmed the development to PTI on Sunday. Vijay Deverakonda faces trouble as police registers case against him for remarks against tribal people.(PTI) Case registered against Vijay Deverakonda Police stated that although the remarks, which likened the recent terror attack in Pahalgam to tribal conflicts from 500 years ago, were made in April, a case under the SC/ST Act was registered against the actor on 17 June following a complaint. "The actor made comments in April. However, based on a complaint, a case under the SC/ST Act was booked against him on 17 June,' a police official told PTI. The complaint was lodged by Nenavath Ashok Kumar Naik, also known as Ashok Rathod, who serves as the State President of the Joint Action Committee of Tribal Communities. He alleged that during the pre-release event of the film Retro, which stars actor Surya, the actor made statements that hurt the sentiments of tribal communities and caused serious offence. Rathod further claimed that the actor's comparison of tribal people to Pakistani terrorists was racially insensitive. What Vijay Deverakonda had said During the pre-release event of Surya's film Retro, Vijay addressed the Pahalgam terror attack and said, 'The solution to what is happening in Kashmir is also to educate them (terrorists) and ensure they don't get brainwashed. What will they achieve? Kashmir belongs to India, and Kashmiris are ours. India doesn't even need to attack Pakistan because Pakistanis themselves are fed up with their government and will attack them if this continues. Asalu 500 years back tribals kokkutunnatu, veelu buddi lekunda, minimum common sense lekunda chese panulu.' (They behave like tribals did 500 years ago, fighting without common sense). After facing backlash on social media for his comments, the actor expressed regret. He took to X and wrote, "It has come to my attention that a remark I made during the Retro audio launch event has caused concern among some members of the public. I wish to sincerely clarify: there was absolutely no intention to hurt or target any community, especially our Scheduled Tribes, who I deeply respect and consider an integral part of our country." The actor clarified that his intention was to promote unity, emphasising that India is one, its people are one, and the nation must progress together. He expressed disbelief at the idea that, while advocating for national solidarity, he would deliberately target or discriminate against any community, all of whom he considers part of his larger family. He concluded, "If any part of my message was misunderstood or hurtful, I express my sincere regret. My only aim was to speak of peace, progress, and togetherness. I remain committed to using my platform to uplift and unify — never to divide. Vijay Deverakonda."

Release of Union Minister Suresh Gopi-starrer movie hits hurdle
Agency: PTI Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 22 (PTI) The release of the Suresh Gopi-starrer Malayalam movie 'J.S.K-Janaki vs. State of Kerala' has hit a hurdle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) denying it screening permission reportedly over the name of the title character, industry sources said. The Pravin Narayanan-directed movie, with Union Minister Suresh Gopi and Anupama Parameswaran in lead roles, reportedly revolves around the legal battle of an assaulted woman named Janaki against the state. According to sources, the film was reportedly denied screening clearance, citing that 'Janaki', an alternative name of Goddess Sita, cannot be used for such a character. Narayanan, in a Facebook post, confirmed on Saturday that the Censor Board has denied screening permission for the movie. There would be no release on June 27, he said in the FB post without elaborating. Meanwhile, noted director B Unnikrishnan, the general secretary of the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA), on Sunday told reporters that the makers of the JSK were clearly informed by the CBFC that the name 'Janaki' cannot be used in the movie. 'They have not received any written information in this regard. A show-cause notice is yet to be received. They expect to get it by Monday," he told reporters in Kochi. The CBFC clearly stated to the film's crew that the name 'Sita' cannot be used either in the title or for the character in the movie, Unnikrishnan said. 'The story is about the legal fight carried out by an assaulted woman against the state. It is said (by the Board) that Goddess Sita's name cannot be given to the woman character who suffered assault," he said. He said another Malayalam filmmaker also recently faced a similar issue over the name of a character called 'Janaki' in his movie, and he was forced to change it to 'Jayanthi" to get Censor Board certification. Terming the Board's action as 'strange", the FEFKA secretary asked where the country is heading. He said the filmmakers are even denied the freedom to give names of their choice to the characters in their films. The director also said that in this circumstance, it would be tough to choose a name for characters belonging to the Hindu religion, as the majority of them would be epithets of Gods or Goddesses. Union Minister Suresh Gopi and the makers of the film were immediately not available for a comment. PTI LGK ADB First Published: June 22, 2025, 18:00 IST
