No more MH-CET exams outside Maharashtra: Chandrakant Patil
Maharashtra will no longer conduct Common Entrance Tests (CETs) outside the state, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil announced on Thursday. The decision follows recent incidents raising concerns about the exam's integrity.
On Wednesday, the five-year LLB CET results showed that all four top scorers were from a single exam centre in Patna, Bihar, sparking suspicion. Earlier, in March 2025, the MBA CET was marred by reports of students receiving unsolicited calls offering admission to top institutes for hefty sums of amount in range from Rs 11 to Rs 20 lakh.
A complaint to Mumbai police had led to the arrest of three people in Delhi.
Stating that the investigating team has been informed of the latest development from the LLB five-year CET's result which has sparked suspicion, Patil said, 'To ensure transparency, CETs will no longer be held outside of Maharashtra.'
The Maharashtra CET Cell conducts over 18 entrance exams for admission to various professional courses in the state. Some of the CETs – such as MHT-CET, MBA and LLB CETs are extended to a few cities outside of Maharashtra like Patna, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru to accommodate out-of-state aspirants.
'These are anyway very limited exam-centres. Further, this year, we had already reduced outside centres post the MBA-CET issue, but couldn't cancel previously announced exams. Now, we've decided to stop them entirely,' said an official from the CET Cell.
The MBA-CET scam surfaced in March after students reported calls promising inflated marks to ensure admission to coveted colleges in the city in exchange for large sums. CET Cell had formed a confidential committee to probe the matter following which the matter was reported to the Mumbai Police.

Elderly YSRCP Worker Run Over by Jagan Reddy's Car During Rally
New Delhi: An elderly man was run over by the convoy of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy during a rally near Eturukur village on the outskirts of Guntur city last week. The incident came to light on Sunday after several videos surfaced on social media, showing that it was Reddy's car that crushed 65-year-old Cheeli Singaiah, a YSR Congress Party worker, to death. According to the Times of India, the rally carried on with people unaware that Singaiah had been crushed under Reddy's vehicle. Jagan was enroute from Rentapalla village in the Sattenapalli constituency to console the family of a party worker who had died by suicide last year. A massive crowd was following the convoy when the incident took place. According to reports, Singaiah had approached the vehicle to shower flowers on Reddy. As the police struggled to manage the crowd, Singaiah was reportedly pushed down in the chaos. While those near the elderly activist raised alarm on realising what had happened, Reddy's security personnel and driver did not stop the vehicle. Singaiah was later rushed to the hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. According to the Times of India, YSRCP leaders have given a cheque of Rs 10 lakh as ex gratia from the party to Singaiah's family.

Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder: Police Arrest Security Guard, Property Dealer
Shillong: A special investigation team (SIT) of the Meghalaya Police on Sunday arrested two persons in Madhya Pradesh in connection with the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, a senior officer said. With the fresh apprehensions, the total number of people arrested in the case rose to seven. The SIT on Saturday night arrested a property dealer for concealing a box belonging to Raghuvanshi's wife Sonam, who hid it in a flat in Indore after the murder last month. "Meghalaya Police SIT arrested one Silome James from Bhonrasa toll-gate in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh while he was trying to flee to Bhopal around 7.30 pm on Saturday. He is a property dealer and lessee of a building at Heera Bagh Colony in Indore where Sonam had stayed and kept the jewellery and other items she took with her after the incident," East Khasi Hills district SP Vivek Syiem told PTI. Later, the SIT nabbed a security guard, identified as Balla Ahirwar, from his native village in Ashok Nagar district of Madhya Pradesh around 2 am on Sunday. He was posted at the property. The two will be produced before a court in Indore, seeking a transit remand for being taken to Shillong for further investigation, he added. The box is believed to have contained key evidence linked to the murder, according to sources. The arrested property dealer led the SIT to the place where he had disposed of all the items of the box by burning, the officer said. A member of the SIT said that Sonam's boyfriend Raj Kushwaha owned a firearm and this was kept at the property along with jewellery and a laptop. At the site where James had burnt the box, there were no signs of the pistol, laptop or any of the jewellery belonging to Raja, he said, adding that a forensic team had also visited the spot and collected all available evidence. The flat was rented out to murder co-accused Vishal Chauhan by James, who runs a property management firm in Indore, they said. On June 13, James told reporters that Chauhan approached him on May 30 and rented the flat for Rs 17,000 per month, signing a formal agreement. However, when the Meghalaya Police later searched the flat, it was found vacant, as per the sources. Sonam stayed in the flat for several days on return from Meghalaya, before eventually surrendering to police in UP on June 8, the sources said. Indore-based transport businessman Raghuvanshi married Sonam on May 11 in Indore and the couple left for their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 20. Raghuvanshi went missing on May 23 and his mutilated body was recovered on June 2 from a deep gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra area of East Khasi Hills district. Raja was hacked to death by three men using two machetes near a secluded parking lot close to the famous Weisawdong falls in Sohra on May 23, the day the couple was reported missing. Sonam, accused of conspiring with her alleged lover to kill her husband, surrendered on June 8 before the police in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district, while four other accused have been arrested from different locations in MP and UP. The Meghalaya Police had earlier arrested five persons in connection with the murder -- Sonam, her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha and the latter's three friends Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi. The five are currently in judicial custody and lodged at a jail in Meghalaya. The case is being probed in detail by the SIT of Meghalaya Police.

'Graduating from NFSU will be like a job guarantee. You won't have to search elsewhere," Shah told students and youth. This is a great opportunity for the youths of Chhattisgarh. With 16 NFSU campuses across India (7 operational, 9 approved, and 10 proposed), the govt plans to develop 26 campuses in total. Shah said the system would eventually produce 32,000 forensic experts every year, exceeding India's current need of 30,000. 'The NFSU campus to be built at a cost of Rs 145 crore, and the CFSL, at Rs 123 crore, are part of a broader national push to modernize the criminal justice system and make India self-reliant in forensic science. Under the new criminal laws, it would become mandatory for a forensic team to visit the crime scene for any offense with a sentence of more than seven years. 'Now, with CFSL setting up, it will give a huge strength to our criminal justice system. There will be no need to go to other states for forensic probe or to send samples to Delhi for investigation. 'There was a time when arguments for justice were based on feelings or imagination and evidence, but I believe that the perfect result comes when there is proof and scientific evidence. 'Someone had sent me a survey which states the global forensic technology market is worth 20 billion US dollars, which will be worth 55 billion US dollars by 2036 with a 13% compound annual growth rate. The survey estimates India's share in it to be 9%. This is a huge potential our youth will get to explore through this,' Amit Shah added.
