Outrageous cast teases second season of scandalous period drama
U and U&Drama's new historical series Outrageous has scored rave reviews, but will the Mitford sisters' story continue?
The cast of Outrageous are all keen to return for a second series of the gripping historical drama following its premiere this week.
Releasing this Thursday (19th June) on U, U&Drama and BritBox, the six-part first outing follows Nancy Mitford (played by Bessie Carter) and her five sisters' ascent to notoriety in the 1930s.
While Nancy was becoming a reputable author and journalist, her sisters were either breaking the rules of society or rubbing shoulders with fascists.
After taking off the rose-tinted glasses for a key era of British history, will Outrageous continue the scandalous narrative in a second outing?
Acclaimed star James Purefoy, who portrays the Mitfords' father, insists: 'They'd be mad not to, I think.'
Reach chatted to Purefoy and the rest of the cast at the show's London premiere, and enthusiasm to continue was high across the board.
'I think it's a great show and there's a lot more meat on these bones,' he continued. 'We're only at 1937, with loads more to come.'
Along with Bridgerton star Carter portraying Nancy, the Mitford family is brought to life by a crop of both established stars and new talent to watch out for.
In addition to Anna Chancellor portraying their dedicated mother, Joanna Vanderham and Shannon Watson portray fascist sympathisers Diana and Unity and Isobel Jesper Jones plays Pamela Mitford, who defied gender norms of the time.
Zoe Brough and Orla Hill portray the youngest sisters, Jessica and Deborah and, finally, Toby Regbo portrays the only brother, Tom Mitford.
Jones teases of a potential second season: 'There is so much history to cover. It's the tip of the iceberg, there's so much more they go on to do.
'Pamela's story, in particular, is so interesting beyond the 1930s. I really hope that we'll get to do that. If anything it gets more chaotic and more outrageous.'
And Hill was equally enthusiastic to return, saying: 'I would love to.
'I'm desperate to because Deborah starts to come out to society and then had a crazy, teenage… her sweet 16 was pretty [crazy], hanging out with the Kennedys.
'One of the most interesting things about Outrageous is you have all those really famous historical figures that we know just trickling in,' she added.
'Having some of that for my character's storyline would be really fun.'
From the first episode's surprise appearance of Winston Churchill (Robert Daws), it's clear the Mitfords were one of the most well-connected families in Britain during the early 20th Century.
With plenty more history to cover, a second season could feature cameos galore from famous faces as well as plenty more scandalous revelations about the Mitfords.

Titan sub Scot branded 'hero' for trying to halt dive before being fired for raising concerns
Glaswegian David Lochridge, who was the former Director of Marine Operations, warned OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush about the dangers of the Titan sub before he was sacked for speaking up A Scot who tried to halt the journey of the fatal Titan submersible has been "unsung hero". Glaswegian David Lochridge attempted to stop the sub ahead of its doomed journey to the wreckage, which led to the death of five people on board. David has been praised by viewers for his admirable efforts amid the release of a Netflix documentary on the disaster. The streaming platform released TITAN: The OceanGate Disaster last week, which explores the events leading up to the tragedy on June 18, 2023. The submersible had been making a trip to the Titanic ruins in the north Atlantic when it imploded, killing everyone in an instant. Among the dead were OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, 61, French Pilot Paul-Henri Nargeolet, 77, British businessman and explorer Hamish Harding, 58, Shahzada Dawood, 48, a Pakistani/British/Maltese businessman, and his teenage son Suleman Dawood, 19, who was a student at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. The documentary shows the shocking footage of the moment American born Rush fires his Director of Marine Operations, Lochridge, for expressing his expertise concerns about the safety of the Titan vessel. In one incident shown in the film, Rush told Lochridge at the last minute that he wanted to pilot the sub for a test dive to the Andrea Doria shipwreck despite the Scot's vast experience. Lochridge managed to persuade Rush that he should at least let him join him and the other four paying passengers onboard. Luckily, he did, because at one point Rush crashes the sub onto the wreck and it is Lochridge who herocially guides them out of the danger. After the incident, Lochridge explained how Rush told him "I owe you one" but then went on to leave him out of important meetings. He said Rush "never really spoke to me the rest of the trip," adding the "dynamic changed" between them. He added that he was "cut out by senior management from the Titan project," and "was dropped from all email communications, verbal communications," leaving him "totally out of the loop". After asking Lochridge to carry out an inspection on the sub, Rush fired him that day after receiving his notes which detailed faults. In a recording of the moment Lochridge was let go by Rush, viewers can hear him telling him he was "full of s**t" as he says, "I don't want anyone in this company who is uncomfortable with what we're doing". After Rush fired Lochridge, he then said he felt a duty to report his concerns to the Occupational Safety and Health Administrations, revealing that the sub was made from carbon fibre and that the OceanGate CEO has chosen not to classify the Titan vessel. Lochridge, who repeatedly made his feelings clear about the doomed vessel, is hailed as an "unsung hero" by submersible consultant Rob McCallum who was also against the Titan being used. Lochridge, who had previously piloted OceanGate expeditions, was advised that he would be protected after filing the complaint. However, OceanGate discovered his responsibility and filed a lawsuit against him for breach of contract and fraud. CEO Rush is heard saying in the documentary that he has no issue in "ruining a life" and Lochridge was forced to withdraw his complaint due to the financial impact it was having on his family and the slow pace which the case was moving at as OSHA investigator Paul McDevitt explained they had a number of other pressing cases to deal with first. Lochridge described OceanGate's lawsuit as an attempt to "keep [him] quiet so they could proceed with the project". He added that he could not believe Stockton and other staff members "were willing to play Russian roulette". Speaking about the potential dangers of the Titan in 2017, he said: "The worst things that can happen take place at shallow depths - that's where you see the biggest pressure changes. "The biggest hurdle, especially with the Atlantic, is that the weather conditions are at the beck and call of Mother Nature. We have a mobile subsea launch and recovery system, which we can deploy from once the sub is down at depth, so we should be out of the way of all the topside weather conditions."

Dr Kiran Morjaria was on holiday in Sri Lanka with his girlfriend when she woke him in the middle of the night A British doctor holidaying in Sri Lanka was left aghast when his girlfriend roused him in the dead of night, convinced that an intruder was in their room. Upon illuminating their surroundings, the reality was revolting – a rat as large as a small cat had invaded their upscale hotel room. Kiran Morjaria, a doctor and YouTuber, recounted the petrifying incident to his 32,000 TikTok followers, a tale sure to make anyone consider sleeping with the lights on during their next holiday. Kiran's partner, who is petrified of insects, alerted him in the night, but he initially dismissed her fears, assuring her she was just imagining things. Yet, what they discovered later was far more alarming than any insect. He said: "When I was in Sri Lanka last year my girlfriend is terrified of insects and that sort of thing. She got me up and said 'I can hear something' in the middle of the night. I said 'You are just imagining it - there is nothing here.'". But mere minutes later, his girlfriend's insistence led to a startling discovery. Kiran added: "About ten minutes later she gets me up again and says 'I can definitely hear something in the room so I get up and turn the light on.'", reports the Mirror. That's when Kiran came face-to-face with the colossal rodent that had been lurking in their suite. He exclaimed: "And there I see the biggest rat I have ever seen in my life. I'm talking literally the size of a small cat." What Kiran encountered at his accommodation was even more alarming as he revealed the mammoth rat was "nibbling on our clothes inside the room." Kiran then urged his followers to impart their own nightmare experiences in the comments, which yielded some grisly tales. One recounted a mortifying situation involving her child's nappy fiasco at a swimming pool. She said: "We had the entire swimming pool closed off as our new-born baby pooped in his swim nappy and its was explosive upset tummy we was very embarrassed." Euan's anecdote also featured an explosive element of a different nature. He narrated: "At Nantes airport my T-shirt got swabbed for explosives multiple times and came back and cause I was playing with cap guns the day before." Katy, on the other hand, experienced a harrowing near-miss straight after leaving JFK airport. She recounted: "Leaving JFK airport for Manhattan, Taxi speeding, 60mph head on collision, Police said we're lucky not going home in a body bag, taken to Queens Hosp!". In light of Kiran's initial story, another commenter voiced their opinion, surmising they would have found it difficult to fall asleep again. They remarked: "Arrrrrhhh (not even scared of rats normally but I'd have screamed and not slept."
