Orange Maroc has announced a major step in strengthening its network infrastructure. The telecom operator revealed a strategic agreement with Ericsson to modernize and expand its core network.
This partnership supports Orange Maroc's commitment to providing high-performance connectivity. It also aligns with the national strategy 'Digital Morocco 2030,' which aims to advance the country's digital transformation.
As part of the collaboration, Orange Maroc will integrate Ericsson's dual-mode 5G Core and Cloud Native Infrastructure Solution. These advanced technologies are designed to support cloud-native 5G applications.
The modernization will increase network capacity and improve the customer experience. It also enables Orange Maroc to build a scalable network in preparation for 5G deployment.
Orange Maroc will also implement the Ericsson Cloud Core Policy Controller. This solution will offer high scalability and network resilience, while supporting new business models.
Additionally, the company will extend its network with more IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and Ericsson Packet Core sites. These upgrades aim to: Strengthen Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services
Enhance 4G and 5G offerings such as eMBB, FWA, and industrial connectivity
Moreover, the modernization includes upgrades to cloud infrastructure automation and orchestration. Orange Maroc will enhance its use of Ericsson Network Manager, Orchestrator, and Network IQ Statistics for better monitoring and performance.
Hendrik Kasteel, CEO of Orange Maroc, stated that the partnership reflects the company's focus on innovation and customer satisfaction. He said the agreement will help deliver a stronger, more reliable network for Morocco.
Majda Lahlou Kassi, President of Ericsson Morocco and VP of Ericsson West and Southern Africa, reported that the company is proud to support Orange Maroc in this transformation. She emphasized the importance of scalable and sustainable infrastructure.
Orange Maroc and Ericsson have collaborated for over 20 years. This new project reinforces Orange Maroc's role as a leading telecom operator in Morocco. The company continues to invest in advanced infrastructure to meet future connectivity needs and drive national growth.

Chinese mobile operators cut operational emissions
The Chinese mobile operation industry recently reduced their operational emissions for the first time in 2024. However the volume of mobile data traffic has nearly quadrupled since 2019. As a whole the industry has begun taking actions to improve its energy efficiency and increased the use of renewables. Before the decline last year, previous analyses found regular annual increases in emissions in China, which rose 7 per cent between 2019 and 2023. Energy consumption grew 30 per cent since 2019 as data consumption soared with the nationwide rollout of 5G services, with the nation ending 2024 with just over 1 billion 5G connections. Steven Moore, head of climate action at the GSMA, stated the opportunity in China is enormous, as operators can propel the industry forward in its efforts towards net zero. 'A lot more needs to be done, and it is encouraging to see the mobile industry in Greater China making progress in this way', he noted. 'However, this first decrease is only realised if it goes further next year. We must double down and ensure we are doing everything we can as a global industry to halve emissions by 2030'. The Mobile Net Zero: Greater China report, released at the event, noted the drop in emissions comes as a growing number of mobile operators in the region are setting voluntary climate targets. Four operators in Asia Pacific have validated near-term science-based targets, while three have validated net zero targets. Several key suppliers also have committed to science-based targets and 2050 net zero targets. Zain KSA among the first in the Middle East to activate 600 MHz band
Zain KSA has launched the first phase of its commercial deployment of 5G Standalone (5G-SA) over the 600 MHz band. Full-scale commercial rollout in Riyadh and Jeddah is scheduled during the fourth quarter of 2025, to be followed by a phased expansion extending high-quality internet services across major cities, secondary cities, and the roads connecting them. The commercial deployment of 5G-SA services using low-band spectrum sets a new standard for enhancing nationwide coverage and enabling next-generation connectivity. Zain KSA had acquired 30MHz in the 600MHz band in the Communication, Space, and Technology Commission (CST) spectrum auction of November 2024. Eng.
