Spl drive: 1,062 caught for drunk driving
Hyderabad: As many as 77 offenders were convicted and jailed by the city police for drunk driving. The police had caught 1,062 for driving vehicles under influence of alcohol. The Cyberabad police nabbed 300 persons at the week-end during a special drive.
According to the Cyberabad traffic police, of total 300, two-wheeler drivers were 231, three-wheelers 8, 58 four-wheelers and three heavy vehicles. The police said 22 offenders were found with blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) ranging between 200 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml. All apprehended will be presented before the court.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad police drive against drunk driving reported hundreds of offenders between April 19 and April 25 during a drive. Of the 1,062 offenders, 918 were two-wheelers, 45 three-wheelers, 98 cars and one heavy vehicle. The police said 65 offenders were found with BAC of 200 mg/100 ml and above. Thirty-two were in the 18-20 age group. The highest offenders were aged between 21-33 with 420 followed by 350 in 31-40 year age groups; 164 were 41-50 years old.
In a special drive the police found persons were engaged in both underage drinking and drunk driving. While the traffic police booked cases against them for drunk driving, the law and order police follow up and find where they bought liquor.
The police warned that people indulging in drunk driving and causing fatal accidents will be arrested and charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), which carries a maximum prison term up to 10 years along with a fine.
Meanwhile, a Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRA) Disaster Response Force truck removing unauthorised hoardings and banners at Kukatpally was hit by a vehicle attempting to evade a drunk driving check-post around midnight on Saturday. While the DRF staff was clearing hoardings near a location where traffic police were conducting checks, a vehicle driver, trying to avoid the inspection, swerved left and crashed into the stationary truck before fleeing. No injuries were reported, but the vehicle's front portion was damaged.

329 booked in Cyberabad drunk driving crackdown
A total of 329 individuals were booked by the Cyberabad Police for driving under the influence of alcohol during the weekend. Of the total cases registered, 248 were two-wheeler riders, 23 were three-wheeler drivers, 54 were operating four-wheelers, and four were behind the wheels of heavy vehicles. As per the data shared by the police, as many as 283 drivers registered Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 37 individuals had BAC readings between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while nine were found with dangerously high levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 500 mg/100 ml. The Cyberabad Police warned that in cases where an inebriated driver causes a fatal crash, they will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The section carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison along with a fine. Police urged citizens to refrain from drunk driving to help maintain safety on the roads.

Gujarat accident: Teen's illegal bike ride turns fatal in Dholka; father booked for allowing him to ride
AHMEDABAD: Dholka Rural Police on Saturday registered a case against a man after his underage son crashed a motorcycle, resulting in the death of the pillion rider. The incident occurred on 14 March near Keliya Vasna village in Ahmedabad district. According to the complaint, the 16-year-old boy was riding the motorcycle from Keliya Vasna towards Ranoda village when he lost control. The vehicle skidded off the road and struck a tree. The pillion rider, Kuldeepsinh Rathod, sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot. The minor rider was also injured in the crash. Police investigations revealed that the motorcycle belonged to the minor's father, who had allegedly allowed his son to ride it despite knowing he was underage and did not possess a valid driving licence. A constable from Dholka Rural Police Station filed the complaint after receiving a telephonic alert. Based on preliminary findings, police booked the father under Section 199 of the Motor Vehicles Act for permitting an unlicensed and underage person to ride, which resulted in a fatal accident. An earlier case had been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to causing death by negligence and driving without a licence, in addition to provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act addressing offences committed by guardians of minor drivers. Further investigation is underway. Statements from local witnesses, injured persons, and police officials have been recorded as part of the inquiry, following which Dholka Rural Police filed another case against the minor's father.

A woman and her two daughters were allegedly kidnapped by a group of over 12 men after the kidnappers opened fire and injured her husband in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district, reported PTI, citing police on Sunday. The men assaulted Hariram Pal and his family before abducting his wife and daughters, aged 7 and 5, at gunpoint. According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer Naveen Dubey, the incident unfolded on Saturday afternoon, at nearly 12:30 p.m. in Sumedi village under Lavkushnagar police station limits. The accused arrived on motorcycles and four-wheelers. While the police have arrested five in connection with the matter, a search is currently underway to trace the woman and her daughters. An official informed that the arrested individuals have been taken into custody and a case has been registered against them under various Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections, including attempt to murder. A video of the incident has also emerged online. It shows the accused carrying out the kidnapping in full public view. The official revealed the woman and her daughters were forced into an SUV and driven away as shots were fired in the air. Meanwhile, speaking to the reporters, Pal said that he was shot at while trying to rescue his wife and children, but he survived. The incident has triggered a public outrage, with the opposition attacking the BJP-led state government over the law and order situation in the state. 'A woman and her two children were kidnapped in broad daylight in Chhatarpur. The accused opened fire and forcibly took them away in a car," state Congress president Jitu Patwari said in a post on X. He also questioned the silence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who also holds the home portfolio. Senior Congress leader and former state chief minister Kamal Nath raised concerns and said, 'There is no fear of law left in Madhya Pradesh. Such film-style crimes point to a state of jungle raj. This is deeply worrying."
