Ryan Gosling's most brutal movie isn't 'Drive, it's this surreal thriller — stream it free on Tubi
Like a lot of people, I thought I knew what I was getting into with "Only God Forgives." I saw the poster, recognized Nicolas Winding Refn as the director and expected another slick, stylish crime flick with Ryan Gosling brooding behind the wheel. But when I finally sat down to watch it, I got something stranger, colder, and way more hypnotic. "Only God Forgives" is dreamlike and disorienting while awash with Refn's signature neons. It moves at a crawl, says almost nothing out loud, and fills every moment with violence and dread. It's also one of Gosling's most daring roles. Several critics and moviegoers alike wrote off "Only God Forgives" as just another action flick that oozes with style. But if you give yourself over to it, it works like a slow, suffocating descent into guilt and vengeance. And now that it's streaming free on Tubi, there's no better time to dive in. Julian (Gosling) is an American living in Bangkok who runs a seedy Muay Thai boxing club that's really just a front for a drug smuggling operation, though. When his violent older brother is killed after committing a horrific crime, Julian is pressured by his mother, Crystal (Kristin Scott Thomas), to take revenge, whether he wants to or not. Crystal belittles Julian, idolizes her dead son, and turns everything around her toxic. Then there's Chang (Vithaya Pansringarm), a mysterious ex-cop who sees himself as the hand of justice. And while Julian might look like the main character, Chang is the real force in the story that ties everything together in one of the most violent ways possible. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. The movie finds all of these characters circling each other in hateful silence, though Gosling shines with his quiet anger. No one here is a hero. No one walks away clean. And no one really talks about what they're feeling, which breeds tension you can cut with a knife. Gosling barely says a word in this movie, but that's what makes his performance stand out. He plays Julian as someone completely shut down. He's emotionally flat, stuck between guilt and fear, and controlled by the people around him. It's the opposite of the confident, stylish roles Gosling is known for, and it shows how much he can do without saying anything at all. And honestly, he's never been more attractive than here. The movie is tense, quiet, and sometimes brutal. It won't work for everyone, but if you're into dark crime stories or character studies where silence says more than dialogue, this one is worth your time. Especially when you have Gosling's somewhat unpredictable, quietly angered brother on the loose. Is he going to do what his family wants him to do? Or will seeking vengeance finally send him flying off the handle? "Only God Forgives" is streaming free on Tubi right now. If you've never seen it or want to see Gosling do something totally different, now's a good time to watch. Watch "Only God Forgives" free on Tubi.

Jon Hamm Prefers to Play the Bad Guy: ‘Superman Can Be Kind of Boring'
Jon Hamm does not have as much fun playing the good guy. In an interview with W, the 'Mad Men' alum explained that even though he has the look of a Clark Kent/Superman type he does not feel as compelled by boy scout or the hero. He prefers more of the 'sinner' role. 'I think people can relate to characters making bad decisions, because we've all made them,' Hamm said. 'My history of characters isn't exactly the saints; it's more on the sinner side of the equation. But Superman can be kind of boring. No offense to the new Superman [David Corenswet], who I hope is a delightful person.' Hamm has kept to his word when it comes to playing characters with a darker side. He has been a recurring villain in Apple TV+'s 'The Morning Show' where he plays tech billionaire Paul Marks. The most recent season ended with the exposure of his illegal business practices being threatened by Jennifer Aniston's character Alex. The actor double-dipped at Apple TV+ and starred in 2025's 'Your Friends and Neighbors' – which he also serves as executive producer on. TheWrap reviewer Diedre Johnson called the show 'delightfully watchable.' 'Although good in most of his roles, if there's one type Hamm has nailed, it's the uber successful businessman,' Johnson wrote. She added: ''Your Friends & Neighbors' is not only a dark comedy but also a cynical look at wealthy and aspiring one-percenters at mid-life. A strong cast of talented actors bring magic into the dynamic nine-episode drama.' The post Jon Hamm Prefers to Play the Bad Guy: 'Superman Can Be Kind of Boring' appeared first on TheWrap.

Daniel Ricciardo Slammed by Fans Over Controversial Social Media Post
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Former Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo is under fire from fans after making a controversial social media post. Since leaving the F1 grid, Ricciardo has remained silent. He stepped away from the sport and the spotlight in totality. He broke his silence on June 18, opting to release a controversial advertisement on his X (formerly Twitter) account. Ricciardo partnered with the Australian sports betting company Dabble. Josh Allen #17 of the Buffalo Bills and Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo pose for a photo before a game against the Miami Dolphins at Highmark Stadium on November 3, 2024 in Orchard Park, New York. More Photo by TimothyHe announced a competition that will have a winner and a guest who will travel from an English airport to the United States for an American football weekend extravaganza. The prize offers flights, a three-night stay, VIP tickets to the tailgate party, and a meet-and-greet with the driver. The contest is named The Ultimate Texas Tailgate with Daniel Ricciardo. To enroll, people have to create an account on the Dabble app. I've given retirement a crack, but It's not for me. So, I've teamed up with the legends at Dabble to start a Tailgate business... Check it out at What are you really gambling with? For free and confidential support call 1800 858 858 or visit… — Daniel Ricciardo (@danielricciardo) June 18, 2025 All over the world, sports gambling is growing as more areas continue to legalize it. In the United States, sports betting is everywhere, essentially inescapable for a sports fan. As the industry grows, people are becoming more and more aware of gambling addictions and the risks of making them more accessible. The aftermath of Ricciardo's announcement was a wave of negative comments under the post, many of which were disappointed by his promotion of a gambling company. "Would have supported the tailgate business idea without the direct link to a betting company, man. Disappointed," a user commented. "What a shame. You're shilling for a gambling company. JFC. Surely you don't need the money that badly," another said. "Seriously mate? Money that tight is it? Of all the things you choose to put your name and face on you chose gambling? So bloody disappointing," a third added. "Yikes! Considering Aussies gamblers have the highest losses per capita in the world and a high rate of teenagers on gambling sites, this isn't it DR," a person posted. "Come on mate I'm a massive fan but this isn't at all something good to put your name to. Gambling destroys lives, surely there's better things to work with," a fifth person said. Ricciardo is far from the only athlete to take money from a gambling company, but his set of fans have shared their disappointment over his willingness to promote the vice. The Australian racer left F1 back in 2024 after being replaced during the season by Liam Lawson at Racing Bulls. Red Bull Racing gave him another opportunity with the team in 2023, hoping he would beat out teammate Yuki Tsunoda and rebuild his confidence, but it never clicked. After several races, the higher-ups at Red Bull decided to give Lawson a look, leaving Ricciardo on the outside looking in. Since leaving, Ricciardo has promoted his wine company and clothing brand while staying away from the limelight until now. Given the negative reaction, it will be interesting to see if he continues to advertise Dabble or calls an end to the tailgate party.
