Shimona Jok, Mavericks stars, headline Super Netball Round 11 team of the week
The Melbourne Mavericks' efforts to ensure they don't finish with the wooden spoon this season have pushed three players into Code Sports' team of the week.
The Mavs' win might not have been the best collective effort of the week but some of their players' individual efforts against the Firebirds were outstanding, with one key player from each third of the court making the team of the week.
Shimona Jok's 60 goals showed what a dominant force she has become as a holding shooter, not just in Super Netball but amongst the world's best, with her efforts surpassing fellow Jamaican Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard (Fever) and Kiwi Grace Nweke (Swifts) in round 11.
Wing defence Amy Parmenter had a captain's knock in Brisbane, picking herself up from a massive clash with Firebirds Macy Gardner and Abi Latu-Meafou to lead her team to a crucial win, while Kim Brown had a cracker against her old side, finishing with eight gains at Nissan Arena.
Meanwhile, co-captain Paige Hadley's efforts to lead the Swifts back from a terrible start against the Giants in the NSW derby pushed her into the week's best, alongside defender Teigan O'Shannassy, who had six gains in her side's comeback win.
The victory kept the Swifts on top of the ladder, level on points with the Fever, whose midcourter Alice Teague-Neeld was once again outstanding in their clash with the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
The Vixens' Kiera Austin rounds out the team after a player of the match effort in Melbourne's win over the Lightning on the Sunshine Coast.

St Kilda 'confounded' as Max King has third knee surgery, ruling him out for remainder of 2025
St Kilda's Max King has needed more knee surgery, confirming he will not play any AFL this season. The key forward's inability to recover from his pre-season injury has been a disaster for the Saints, who are in the bottom four after Saturday night's fighting loss to Collingwood. Also on Monday, reports said Saints young gun Mattaes Phillipou would be out for several weeks. He was distraught after aggravating a lower-leg injury only minutes before the start of the Collingwood game and was a late withdrawal. King has not played since round 17 last year, but the Saints had been hopeful he would return before the end of this season. He has already needed two operations on his right knee because of the initial injury during a February practice match. The Saints re-signed King to a six-year deal last season, taking him to 2032. In a statement, the club said Monday's surgery was on damage to the medial aspect of the knee, which had caused "occasional but persistent" pain. The Saints are also adamant they have been baffled by King's ongoing problems. "Max's case has not been simple nor linear, and we've attempted to adequately keep our members and fans up to date while maintaining Max's privacy," said Saints football boss Dave Misson. "We have also been dealing with a medical situation that has often confounded the many medical experts we have consulted. "About 10 days ago, as Max was closing in on a return to football, he felt a clunking in his knee — the same knee that has been causing him trouble throughout this season. "This was as surprising as it was frustrating, as all indications were that Max's most recent arthroscope had addressed this issue." That meant more consultations and scans, leading to Monday's surgery. "We feel the cause of Max's issue has been pinpointed and that damage to the medial aspect of his knee, in certain situations, was impeding his movement and causing pain," Misson said. "The operation aimed to address and repair this issue. It will see Max off-legs for several months, however, will allow him to be ready for the commencement of pre-season." Meanwhile, the AFL website reported Phillipou would be out for several weeks after his plantaris tendon injury flared again before Saturday night's match. Phillipou was a late scratching when he felt sharp pain in his calf while warming up. Injuries have restricted him to only four games this season. AAP

Former AFL footballer Josh Hill pleads not guilty to seven child sex charges
Former footballer Josh Hill is set to face trial after pleading not guilty to seven child sex offences allegedly committed at the height of his AFL career. The 36-year-old is facing three counts of indecent dealings with a child aged 13-16 and four counts of sexually penetrating a child aged 13-16. Police allege the offences took place in Broome in December 2015 and in the Perth suburb of Scarborough in January 2016. Mr Hill appeared by video link in the Broome Magistrates Court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to all seven charges. He appeared from Melbourne while his lawyer, high-profile Perth KC Tom Percy, appeared in a separate video. Broome Magistrate Deen Potter read each charge to Mr Hill, noting each involved a 15-year-old child. "So a child over the age of 13 but under the age of 16 years," he said. Mr Hill spoke only to confirm his not guilty plea to each charge. Born in Broome, Mr Hill's played 173 games for the Western Bulldogs and West Coast between 2007 and 2017. Returning to WA after five seasons at the Bulldogs, his 107 games for West Coast included playing in the 2015 Grand Final, which the Eagles lost to Hawthorn. The 36-year-old had his bail extended with the same conditions. His lawyer indicated he would seek to vary those bail conditions to allow his client to appear remotely. His matters are next due to be heard in Broome District Court on August 19.
