Solar panels, wind farms, and digital links featured in Bahrain's pitch to Mediterranean lawmakers this week as MPs set out plans for shared infrastructure, closer ties, and smoother trade during a summit in Marrakesh.
MP Mohammed Mousa, Chairman of the Public Utilities and Environment Committee, said Bahrain is backing renewable energy and modern technology as part of its wider development effort led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
He added that Parliament and the Cabinet, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, are working together to meet international goals.

These include overhauling the country's energy systems, improving key networks, and drafting laws that keep pace with changes abroad.
Second Session
Mousa was speaking during the second session of the forum titled Energy Transition, Adaptation and Energy Security: Strategic Choices, part of the third Parliamentary Economic Forum of the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly.
He was joined by MPs Hanan Fardan and Basema Abdulkarim, who also took part in the opening session on trade and finance shifts between the Arabian Gulf and the Mediterranean.
Fardan told the gathering that Bahrain is keen to work more closely with Mediterranean countries in trade, investment, and digital development.
Broader Direction
She said the approach reflects the country's broader direction, shaped by royal guidance and carried forward by both Parliament and government.
The lawmaker pointed to Bahrain's work to improve its digital infrastructure and maintain its standing as a financial hub.
On energy, she said the Kingdom is expanding its use of renewables, with solar and wind schemes forming part of long-term planning.
Regional Advisory Group
In her remarks during the forum's third session titled Artificial Intelligence and its Governance: Strengthening Parliamentary Oversight, Fardan called for the creation of a regional advisory group bringing together parliaments, researchers, and technology firms.
Such a body, she said, would support a shared understanding of artificial intelligence, similar to the model used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
The aim, she added, is to provide parliaments with sharper tools when drafting new rules.

Israel to reopen airspace at 1100 GMT for repatriation flights: official

AFP | Jerusalem, Undefined Israel is to temporarily reopen its airspace for flights from 1100 GMT on Sunday as it repatriates thousands of citizens left stranded overseas by its war with Iran, the country's airport authority said. Israel's main Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv "will open for landings from 02:00 pm - 8:00pm as part of Operation Safe Return", the authority said in a statement, referring to the government's efforts to bring home citizens. According to the Israeli Ministry of Transport, between 100,000 and 150,000 Israelis were stranded abroad when Israel closed its airspace following the launch of a massive bombing campaign against Iran on June 13. Tehran has respond with daily barrages of missiles and drones. Sharon Kedmi, head of the Israeli airport authority, said Sunday that flights to Israel to repatriate citizens were set to gradually resume. "Ben Gurion airport is prepared to resume flights to Israel. The return will take place gradually, with a focus on the safety of passengers, flights crews and aircraft, and prior cooperation with security services," he was quoted as saying. A first boat carrying 1,500 Israelis from Cyprus docked in the Israeli port of Ashdod on Friday. The eastern Mediterranean island has become a major transit point where thousands of Israelis have gathered either awaiting repatriation or having left the country.

Bahrain Proposes Religious-Awareness Training for MPs at Rome Forum

TDT | Manama Bahrain has proposed religious-awareness training for MPs, aimed at cutting hate speech and bolstering peaceful coexistence between communities, during a parliamentary forum in Rome. MP Hassan Ibrahim put forward the proposal at the Second Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue, hosted in the Italian capital. He was part of a Bahraini delegation led by Parliament Speaker Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam. Ibrahim said such courses would give MPs practical insights for tackling prejudice, supporting mutual understanding among religions, and cementing social cohesion. Religious Traditions He suggested that a solid grasp of religious traditions and their wider social contexts would help legislators develop fairer and more inclusive laws. 'In a world of diverse beliefs, parliamentarians have an obligation to promote legislation that upholds tolerance, respect, and peaceful living side-by-side,' Ibrahim told attendees. 'But to carry out this role effectively, we need to properly understand religious values and the communities shaped by them.' Royal Vision Hala Ramzi Fayez, member of the Shura Council, told the forum the Kingdom had successfully combined religious values with civic policies, particularly in empowering women. She spoke of Bahrain's vision under His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, built on fairness and equality—principles clearly enshrined in the Kingdom's constitution and laws. Fayez said this approach had helped Bahraini women rise to prominent posts in Parliament, government ministries, diplomatic missions, the judiciary, and security sectors. The lawmaker also noted Bahrain's adoption of a National Plan for Bahraini Women, supervised by the Supreme Council for Women, headed by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of HM the King. Equality & Empowerment The programme promotes equality between men and women across state institutions and has served as a regional model. The Shura member highlighted Bahrain's updates to legislation, incorporation of gender rights into education curricula, and collaboration with civil society groups and religious bodies to champion women's participation. She added that meaningful conversations on women's empowerment must consider religious values, describing moderate interfaith dialogue as key to removing cultural and social barriers.
