UAE President receives Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs
ABU DHABI: President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan today received His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar.
During the meeting, which took place at Qasr Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi, the two sides exchanged Eid Al-Adha greetings, praying to God to bless both countries and their peoples with continued wellbeing and prosperity.
His Excellency conveyed to the UAE President the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, along with his best wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of the UAE. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed asked His Excellency to convey his own greetings to the Emir, expressing his sincere wishes for ongoing development for Qatar and its people.
His Highness and the Qatari Prime Minister discussed the close relations between the two countries and various aspects of their cooperation. They affirmed their shared commitment to strengthening collaboration for the benefit of both nations.
The two sides also reviewed a number of regional and international issues of common concern and exchanged views on recent developments.
Earlier in the day, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani arrived at Al Bateen Airport in Abu Dhabi, where he was received by His Highness Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser, along with a number of officials.
The meeting at Qasr Al Bahr was attended by H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser; H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region; H.H. Sheikh Saif bin Mohammed Al Nahyan; H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation; H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior; H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs; Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Adviser to the UAE Presidential; along with a number of ministers and senior officials.

UAE eases visa rules for Sudanese citizens whose passports have almost expired
The UAE will allow Sudanese citizens with less than six months left on their passports to obtain or renew residency visas in a show of solidarity amid the war in their homeland. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) told The National on Friday that the decision aimed to help people regularise their status in the face of 'exceptional circumstances'. Applicants must typically have at least six months remaining on their passport to secure residency in the Emirates. The civil war in Sudan – which broke out in April 2023 – has hampered the efforts of its citizens based overseas to renew their passports. Tens of thousands of people have been killed and millions forced to flee the country as the conflict has created a worsening humanitarian crisis. 'The move reflects the UAE's efforts to strengthen the social and humanitarian well-being for those impacted in the exceptional circumstances in their country,' the ICP said in a statement. 'The procedures will be smooth and flexible to renew their permits after exempting them from paying fines.' 'The decision is part of wider national efforts to promote social and humanitarian stability for residents in the country.' For Ahmed El Shiekh, a Sudanese citizen living in Dubai, the decision will help him to renew his residency and secure his job. 'It is really great initiative. It takes quite long to get a new passport and may take up to six months to get one from Sudan,' the 37-year-old said. Mr El Shiekh, whose passport will expire in four months, said he can apply now to renew his residency. 'I was afraid to lose my job and didn't know what to do. I spent most of my life in the UAE and have no other place to go. I'm relieved,' he added.

Qatar holds talks with energy companies on risk of Israel-Iran conflict, sources say
Qatar held crisis talks this week with energy majors after Israeli strikes on Iran's huge gas field, which it shares with Qatar, an industry source and a diplomat in the region told Reuters. Saad Al Kaabi, CEO of state-owned QatarEnergy and the Gulf Arab state's energy minister urged companies to warn the U.S., British and European governments about the risks the conflict poses to gas exports from Qatar and the increasing threat to the global gas supply, they said. An interruption to Qatar's liquefied natural gas (LNG) operation could cut off around 20% of the global supply, which Doha exports from the world's largest gas reservoir. "QatarEnergy is making sure that foreign governments are fully aware of the implications and repercussions the situation and further escalation pose to gas production from Qatar,' said the diplomat, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation. QatarEnergy did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Kaabi also met this week in Doha with ambassadors representing countries whose companies are involved in QatarEnergy's North Field expansion project, the diplomat said. U.S. majors ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips, Britain's Shell, Italy's Eni and France's TotalEnergies all have stakes in the expansion, which is set to boost exports from Qatar by around 82% in the coming years.
