Mark Hamill doesn't intend to return to Star Wars.
The 73-year-old star first played the role of Luke Skywalker in the original movie A New Hope back in 1977 but has no wish to return as the protagonist as he would prefer franchise bosses to focus on the "future" with different characters at the heart of the stories.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Mark said: "I am so grateful to George (Lucas) for letting me be a part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called Star Wars the most expensive low-budget movie ever made.
"We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I'm appreciative of that, but I think they should focus on the future and all the new characters."
Mark's last significant appearance was as a force ghost in the 2019 sequel trilogy flick The Rise of Skywalker and he joked that it was impossible for him to return after the ghostly truth about his alter ego was revealed in the 2017 picture The Last Jedi.
He said: "(I) disappeared in (The Last Jedi), I left my robes behind. And there's no way I'm gonna appear as a naked force ghost."
Hamill confessed last year that he felt the "heart was gone" from Star Wars following the tragic passing of his co-star Carrie Fisher, who portrayed Princess Leia, at the age of 60 from a sudden cardiac arrest in 2016.
Recalling the moment he learnt of Carrie's death, he said: "My wife (Marilou York) came into the bedroom — she gets up earlier than I do — I was still asleep. She had tears rolling down her face saying that Carrie had …
"It forever altered how I reacted to Star Wars in general. The heart was gone. I don't talk about it because I don't like reliving it."
Mark also paid tribute to Carrie for bringing an "effortless feminism" to the sci-fi franchise by standing strong against the villainous Darth Vader and taking command of both Luke and Han Solo (Harrison Ford).
He said: "I thought that it was effortless feminism to have the Princess be far from a shrinking violet.
"She was tough, she was telling Darth Vader off to his face — she was not intimidated by Darth Vader in the slightest.
"'I thought I recognised your foul stench' … I mean, wow! Pretty mouthy, huh?
"And when we rescued her, she made chumps out of Luke and Han: 'You call this a rescue? Gimme that gun!'
"And she made us look like two stooges. I thought, 'That's effortless feminism', because it's not apologetic, it's just showing a woman is as [capable] as any man."

The new offering is available today via Midjourney's website, and it's available to all customers, including those who want to use a free account. Faster video rendering is limited to those users who pay for a subscription, which begins at $10 a month. The move positions the platform in competition with AI-powered video creation. V1's launch is a significant step forward for Midjourney, which has spent the majority of its time creating visually rich static images. With the new tool, the start-up is going after users who want to animate the visuals they create, offering features that strike a balance between simplicity, customization, and affordability. Despite the fact that the tool is available to all the Midjourney users free of cost at the preliminary level, one aspect of concern is the GPU usage by the tool, as the process of video generation is more resource-intensive, requiring eight times more GPU time per second of video. Hence, the users have to allocate GPU time carefully, especially when using the fast mode available under standard subscriptions. The company has also provided Relax Mode to heavy users or creative professionals, but it is accessible only to Pro-tier users and higher. This mode allows unlimited videos at no extra cost, but with longer waiting times, it can at times be up to 10 minutes for one animation. "The pricing model still gives you a massive cost advantage," the company says—reportedly being over 25 times cheaper than any of the current AI video generation tools on the market. Midjourney was sued for copyright infringement by major media companies, including Disney and NBCUniversal. The lawsuit claims that the platform enables unauthorized derivative works by reproducing characters and images from popular franchises. Not nominated for Star Awards' Best Audio Personality but Dennis Chew says The Breakfast Quartet 'should be confident of ourselves'

They've won Best Radio Programme for four years consecutively, but the four DJs in local radio station Love 972's The Breakfast Quartet were surprisingly left out of the Best Audio Personality nominations in Star Awards 2025. Two of the DJs, Dennis Chew and Mark Lee, told AsiaOne in a recent interview that it's not something they worry about. The other two DJs in the team are Marcus Chin and Chen Biyu. Mark, 56, shared: "I feel that the main reason for us not being nominated is because the judges have different preferences for the styles that each DJ presents. "It could be a coincidence that this year's judges are a little 'stricter', so 'innocent and cute' DJs like us are not nominated. But it's okay, because the judges are different every year." Dennis, 51, said: "I feel that it doesn't matter whether we are nominated or not. Most importantly, we should be confident of ourselves, just like how the four of us feel that we are good enough and that's sufficient." The nominees this year are Yes 933 DJs Chen Ning, Hazelle Teo, Kenneth Chung and Zhu Zeliang as well as Capital 958 DJ Pan Jia Biao. In response to queries from AsiaOne, a Mediacorp spokesperson said that as with all Star Awards' programme and performance awards, the nominees for Best Audio Personality are determined by a panel consisting of industry veterans and established media practitioners who would evaluate everyone who is eligible with a standard set of criteria. They added: "Given how competitive this award is, not being nominated in any given year does not necessarily take away from the calibre of their work nor their popularity. "The Breakfast Quartet remains a contender in the Best Radio Programme category, testament to the enduring excellence the show continues to deliver daily." The quartet won the above category for four consecutive years from 2021 to 2024. This year, Dennis' programme Mr Zhou's Ghost Stories is also in the running. On whether they feel pressured to continue winning the award this year, both of them said the achievement doesn't affect their emotions. Dennis shared: "To be honest, we didn't expect to go on stage to receive the award. It's a surprise to us every year. So whether or not there is any surprise this year, we would feel the same way." "If we can receive it for another year, it's the best, but even if we didn't get it this year, it's okay also. Most importantly, it's whether the judges like it or not, because the judges are different every year. If we are awarded again this year, then 'Oh dear, we are the first again!'" Mark quipped. Both Mark and Dennis received their All-Time Favourite Artiste award in 2010 and 2022 respectively. The award is given to artistes who have won the Top 10 Most Popular Artiste honour 10 times. When asked which artistes they wish to see joining them at the 'altar', Dennis shared that he hopes actor-host Guo Liang — who has been in local showbiz for three decades — would bag the award soon, because he "truly deserves it". For Mark, it would be Marcus, 70, who debuted in local showbiz in the 1970s. He quipped: "I looked at his fortunes before and concluded he can live till about 95 years old, so if he receives his 10th Top 10 award before 90 and goes up the 'altar', I think it's not bad because he is really very hardworking."
