Enforcement Directorate Targets Karnataka Congress Leaders In Valmiki Corporation Probe
The Enforcement Directorate launched coordinated searches across eight locations in Karnataka on Wednesday, targeting properties associated with Congress parliamentarian E Tukaram from Ballari constituency and several other party leaders and legislators in the state, according to official sources.
These enforcement actions form part of an expanding investigation into suspected financial irregularities involving the Karnataka Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation Limited (KVSTDCL). Authorities allege that misappropriated funds from this tribal development organization were subsequently channeled to support electoral activities during the recent Lok Sabha polls.
The current raids represent an escalation of the probe that began in July 2024, when enforcement officials searched approximately 20 premises across Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. During that earlier operation, investigators focused on properties linked to Congress legislator Basanagouda Daddal, who served as chairman of the tribal development corporation.
The financial scandal came to light following the tragic death of corporation accounts superintendent Chandrasekharan P on May 21, 2024. His final written statement detailed allegations of unauthorized fund transfers totaling Rs 187 crore from the corporation's accounts, with Rs 88.62 crore allegedly moved illegally into technology company accounts and a cooperative banking institution in Hyderabad.
In response to these revelations, administrative action was swift. Two corporation officials faced suspension, while Karnataka's Tribal Welfare and Sports Minister Nagendra tendered his resignation before being subsequently detained by enforcement authorities in connection with the alleged financial misconduct.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara had previously stated that federal enforcement agencies operate with statutory independence and that the state government was not embarrassed by their investigative activities. He noted that a Special Investigation Team was also examining the matter concurrently.
The investigation continues to examine the alleged systematic diversion of funds intended for tribal development programs, with authorities working to trace the complete financial trail and identify all parties involved in the suspected money laundering scheme.

Police has announced a bounty of Rs 20 lakh on the head of militants. The NIA has taken over the investigation of the case and NIA officials are camping in Pahalgam for investigations. The NIA chief Sadanand Vasant Date has also visited the attack site to review the pace of investigations. On May 7, the Indian military launched Operation Sindoor to target and destroy terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK to avenge the Pahalgam attack.

"Multiple schemes have zero money like PM Awas Yojna, Jal Jeevan Mission.." :BJD slams BJP govt's first year in Odisha
Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India] June 22 (ANI): Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Bhrugu Baxipatra has criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)- led government for its performance in Odisha during its first year, claiming that the state has not received any substantial benefits. Speaking to the ANI, Baxipatra highlighted that the grant allocated to Odisha has decreased compared to the previous year. He also claimed that several major schemes, including the PM Awas Yojana and Jal Jeevan Mission, have been allocated zero funds. 'One year has been completed, but Odisha received no benefits... The grant that Odisha had to get decreased since last year... Multiple schemes have zero money like PM Awas Yojna, Jal Jeevan Mission...', Baxipatra said on Saturday. The BJD leader also expressed concern over the rising incidents of crimes against women and children in the state, with 15 rapes reported daily and over 26,000 FIRs filed in the past year. 'In the last year, Odisha has topped in atrocities on women and children. 15 rapes are happening each day and 26 to 28 thousand FIRs have been filed,' he added. Further, the BJD leader also expressed concern over the state's health crisis, citing the deaths of over 100 people from cholera and diarrhoea. He claimed that investment in the state has come to a standstill, with a significant drop from Rs 37,000 crores last year to just Rs 40 crores this year. Baxipatra also criticised the BJP government's vision for the state. 'Over 100 people have died from Cholera and Diarrhoea in the state... Investment has stopped - investment of Rs 37,000 crores came in last year, while not even Rs 40 crore was received this year, and Jharkhand has surpassed us in this... We worry that the truth of the state is not somehow reaching the Prime Minister.', Baxipatra stated. The BJD leader slammed the BJP government, saying it lacks vision. 'Odisha has witnessed 16% growth under Naveen Patnaik and according to the present vision document, there will be only 9% growth in 2036 when the state completes 100 years. The government has no vision, it does not know how to function, has no experience in administration and it is not ready to learn... They should take a tutorial class to run this government,' he said. Earlier, it was announced that in the absence of former Odisha Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik, the duties of the party office will be managed by its Political Affairs Committee. Additionally, Debi Prasad Mishra, Senior Vice President, Headquarters, will oversee the coordination of activities and programmes. The former CM has announced that he will undergo a medical procedure for cervical arthritis in Mumbai. In an office order issued on Wednesday, Patnaik stated that during his absence, the day-to-day affairs of the BJD will be managed by the party's Political Affairs Committee. Vaishali (Bihar) [India], June 22 (ANI): Jan Suraaj Party chief Prashant Kishor on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, and the Congress, accusing them of failing to bring meaningful change to the state over decades. Addressing a 'Bihar Badlav Rally' in Vaishali, Kishor said, 'For 40-45 years you voted for Congress, then you voted for Lalu Yadav for 15 years. For the last 20 years, Nitish Kumar has been the CM... But the life of the people of Vaishali has not been you vote as I will tell you, then proper arrangements for your children's education and employment will be made here in Vaishali itself...' Criticising what he described as opportunistic voting patterns, Kishor asked the crowd, 'In Vaishali and the whole of Bihar, many people voted for Modi ji and the BJP out of greed for 5kg of grains. They are stealing 1kg of rice, and people are receiving only 4kg, right or wrong?' He also condemned communal narratives in politics, saying, 'People voted in the name of said first Ram Temple should be built in Ayodhya, but you did not get Indira Awas, school-colleges, no factories were installed in Hajipur, Vaishali, but Ram Temple was built with the help of your votes.' Earlier, at a rally in Samastipur, Kishor promised a livelihood opportunity for all within a year of forming the government. 'This is going to be the last Diwali and Chhath of misery in Bihar. After Chhath, when the people's rule is established, the streets and drains may or may not be built, schools and hospitals may not improve, and all the members of your family who have gone out to work, as well as the children who are currently unemployed, may or may not get government jobs. However, within a year, the arrangements for a livelihood of Rs 10,000-12,000 will definitely be made for everyone in Bihar,' he said. Jan Suraaj Party is set to contest in the upcoming Bihar Assembly Elections, which are expected later this year.
