"Why first deny, then allow?": Priyank Kharge asks MEA to explain "politics" behind its US trip approval

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 21 (ANI): Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge on Saturday asked the MEA to explain the 'politics' behind initially denying and then approving his delegation's US visit and accused the Centre of denying Karnataka its right to seek investments from abroad.
'This question should be asked of the MEA. Why did they deny the delegation led by me, and why are they allowing it now? What was wrong then and what is right now?' Priyank Kharge told ANI.
'We were supposed to be there on 13th June, and it is already 21st. Do you think World Expos and World Trade exhibitions will wait for us? No... The politics being played is also to be explained by the MEA,' he added.
He said Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu are the states that drive 50% of the GDP of the country and neglecting those states has no use to anybody.
'We are one of the biggest economic growth engines for the country...If we don't get to go abroad and seek investments...It is always Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu - we are the ones driving 50% of the country's GDP. Have you seen Uttar Pradesh's CM going abroad and getting investments? Have you seen the MP CM or the Bihar CM going and getting investments? It is always Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu. We are the ones driving 50 per cent of the country's GDP,' he said.
'And you doing such things is of no use to anybody. We are the ones who are creating the jobs. Have a look around Bengaluru and Karnataka, how many people from the North are coming here and working...Do you know anybody from Karnataka who is working in UP, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh?' he added.
In his detailed 'X' post, the Karnataka Minister highlighted that he sought permission for his US travel to represent the Karnataka government between June 14 and 27 on May 15 at two major global forums and hold 25 official meetings with top companies, universities and institutions for collaborations and pitch for investments.
He explained that the application for the minister and his delegation was submitted on May 15, which was later rejected on June 4. Kharge added that an application for the officer delegation without the minister was submitted on June 6, and it got clearance on June 11.
The Karnataka Minister said that he addressed a press conference on the matter on June 19, explaining the chronology and raising concerns about the possible political interference. (ANI)

With this, a total of 827 Indians have been evacuated." Nadeem Asgar, an evacuee, told ANI, "I am thankful to my nation for keeping us safe there and bringing us back safely. As soon as the situation went south, we were evacuated by the embassy. I am very thankful to the Indian government." Farzana Abdi echoed similar sentiments, "We are coming back from Iran. There was a lot of fighting and missiles there. The Indian embassy helped us a lot and brought us here. We are very happy to be back in India. India is the best." Riyazul Hasan described the dire situation in Iran, "The situation is not good there. We saw from our hotel window that the missiles were coming, which were being intercepted mid-air. We are relieved to be back here. We came through the embassy. We thank PM Modi." Fatima expressed her gratitude to the Prime Minister, "I am very grateful to PM Modi. Now I feel at peace after coming back to my country. Being back in your homeland is a matter of great joy." Almas Rizvi praised the Indian embassy's support, "We were given accommodation in a good hotel and given lunch, dinner, everything, on time. It feels good to be back in our country. The Indian embassy helped us a lot. The Indian government took good care of us and didn't even let us feel we were living in a war-like situation." Daniya shared her relief, "I am delighted. We were terrified. The situation was very dire in Tehran. I thank the Indian embassy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the bottom of my heart because of which we could reach here safely." Earlier in the day, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said, a centrifuge manufacturing workshop in the central Iranian city has been struck, making it the third nuclear-related facility targeted in Israeli attacks since June 13, Al Jazeera reported. "We know this facility well. There was no nuclear material at this site and therefore the attack on it will have no radiological consequences," Grossi said in a statement posted by the IAEA. Rs 8,000 crore plan in works to clean Yamuna, fix drainage: Delhi CM

The Delhi government is currently working on more than 300 projects, allocated an outlay of Rs 8,000 crore, to clean Yamuna River and solve the city's sewage woes, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Friday. Gupta held a meeting with Water Minister Parvesh Verma and top Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials to review the work underway to fix the drainage and sewer system in the city. "The Delhi government is implementing a multi-pronged and phased plan for Yamuna rejuvenation, which includes drain treatment, sewerage network expansion and setting up of modern Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs)," the chief minister said in a statement. In the meeting, according to the statement, she reviewed a 45-point action plan, which included capacity enhancement and upgradation work at existing STPs located in Yamuna Vihar, Okhla, Keshopur, Vasant Kunj, Ghitorni, Mehrauli, and Molarbandh under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme and one each in Nilothi and Pappan Kalan. Gupta directed officials to replace old pipelines in phases. "Many parts of Delhi are still operating on decades-old water and sewer pipelines, which are no longer sustainable due to rapid urban growth and increasing demand. Officials have been instructed to undertake phase-wise planning and use modern technology to replace old infrastructure," she said. According to officials, the 303 drainage projects involve redevelopment of major drains, permanent solutions for waterlogging, installation of modern pumps, de-silting of drains, expansion of stormwater systems, and scientific drainage network management. Gupta said she will personally visit the Yamuna every month to check the progress in its cleaning. She also claimed that Delhi will soon become a 'model' city in terms of equitable water distribution under the Centre's Har Ghar Nal Se Jal initiative. Verma stated that strict directions have been issued for immediate action against the illegal discharge of untreated sewage and industrial waste in the city. "This is a crisis that can no longer be ignored. Delhi cannot afford to let untreated sewage flow into its lifelines. No polluter will be spared. We will act and act fast," he said.

The Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday informed that so far over 800 Indian nationals have returned from Iran. The MEA shared the update on the status of the evacuation operation in a series of posts on X. Operation Sindhu was launched on Wednesday for the safe evacuation of the Indian citizens in Iran. '#OperationSindhu flight brings citizens home. India evacuated 290 Indian nationals from Iran, including students and religious pilgrims by a charter flight. The flight arrived in New Delhi at 2330 hrs on 20 June and was received by Secretary (CPV& OIA) Arun Chatterjee," MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on X. 'Government of India is grateful to the Government of Iran for the facilitation of the evacuation process," he added. Sharing the details, Jaiswar wrote, 'OperationSindhu continues. A special evacuation flight from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan landed in New Delhi at 0300 hrs on 21st June, bringing Indians from Iran home. With this, so far 517 Indian nationals from Iran have returned home under Operation Sindhu. In another post in the evening, Jaiswal informed about the arrival of a separate evacuation flight.
