"Want To Become A Champion Again": Naveen Kumar Joins Haryana Steelers For PKL 12

In one of the most exciting moves during the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) 12 Player Auction, legendary raider Naveen Kumar has signed with defending champions Haryana Steelers for Rs 1.20 Crores, marking his much-anticipated return to his home state and setting the stage for what promises to be an electrifying season. The PKL Season 8 champion, who amassed 1102 Raid Points for Dabang Delhi K.C. during his stellar six-season tenure, entered the PKL Player Auction for the very first time since making his debut. He expressed his joy at wearing the Steelers jersey. "I always thought I should play for Haryana Steelers, and finally I have become part of this team," Kumar said following the auction, as quoted by the PKL press release. "The entire team and management have placed their trust in me, and I want to justify that faith. This is a champion team, and I want to become a champion again," he added. Kumar's acquisition makes him one of the 10 crorepatis from the PKL 12 auction, underlining his status as one of the most valuable players in the league. With his experience in the PKL as well as with the Services kabaddi team, he brings unparalleled experience to a squad already brimming with young talent like Vinay, Shivam Patare, and Vishal Tate. Speaking about joining forces with the defending champions, Kumar emphasised the team's championship mentality. "We are the defending champions, and all players share the same winning mentality. We play as a cohesive unit. We have the confidence and belief that we will perform even better than last season and give our absolute best for the team," he asserted. The Naveen Express is particularly excited about working under head coach Manpreet Singh, whose passionate coaching style has become legendary in PKL circles. "Manpreet sir was an excellent player and is now an outstanding coach - we've all heard about his reputation and seen his work. He's passionate and aggressive in his approach because he constantly motivates his players. He brings tremendous energy, and his methods are exceptional. I'm really excited to play under his guidance," Kumar noted. The signing represents more than just a strategic acquisition for the Steelers - it's a homecoming for Kumar, who is eager to contribute to his home state's continued success. "Playing for my home state means I need to give even more than my best," he declared with determination. "This season is going to be incredible. It's going to be absolutely fantastic!" Kumar concluded. As PKL Season 12 approaches, the addition of Naveen Kumar to an already formidable Haryana Steelers lineup has sent excitement levels soaring among fans. With the team now complete, the defending champions appear well-positioned to make another serious title run.

Chhattisgarh CM arranges funds for softball player Shalu Dahariya to take part in international event

The proverb 'where there is a will, there is a way' became a reality for a Chhattisgarh-based Softball woman player Shalu Dahariya, who has been selected in the Indian team for Women's Softball Asia Cup, which will be held in China early next month. She was thrilled with happiness knowing that she has been included in Indian Women's team for Softball Championship scheduled between July 14 to 20 in China's Xi'an, but still there was uncertainty as her family could not afford the money required for travelling to China. Shalu, who had started playing Softball since her early age, and has won more than a dozen awards, was upset because her parents could not afford to send her to China. She needed Rs 1.7 lakh to participate in China, and this amount was not affordable to her parents. Her father works as a security guard. However, a phone call she received on Sunday morning, filled Shalu and her parents with joy again. The phone call she received was from the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, who assured Shalu that financial shortage won't be a hurdle now and assured her that she will go to China to participate in Women's Softball Asia Cup. Talking to Shalu in a video phone call, Chief Minister Sai, said, "Daughter... you are the pride of Chhattisgarh. Don't worry and get ready to leave and participate in Softball Asia Cup in China. The government will pay whatever amount is needed for it. My best wishes to you." The Chief Minister in statement also said that the Chhattisgarh government is committed to provide all possible help to youths. "Our government not only encourages daughters to make their career, but also support them at every step," he added. One hour later, Shalu received another phone call from Janjgir District Collector's office, and she was asked to reach the office. Upon reaching there, Janjgir District Collector Janmejay Mahobe handed over a cheque of Rs 1.7 lakh to Shalu. Shalu's family has expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister Sai for providing financial support and encouragement. "We are really thankful to our Chief Minister for his helping hand. We are also happy that he talked to us on phone call. Now, my daughter will live her dream," said Shalu's mother Alka Dahariya.

What Karnataka's new crowd control bill proposes

Facing flak over the handling of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations, which resulted in the death of 11 cricket fans in a stampede outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy stadium on June 4, the Karnataka government has proposed a new legislation to manage crowds at events. The Karnataka Crowd Control (Managing Crowd at Events and Venues of Mass Gathering) Bill 2025 looks to 'effectively manage and control crowds at sponsored events and venues of mass gathering' such as political rallies, conferences and other events. It excludes 'jatra, rathotsava, pallakki utsava, teppada teru, urus, or any religious event pertaining to any religion, caste or creed'.Discussed in a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on June 19 and slated to come up for approval in the next cabinet meeting, the draft bill lays down guidelines on standard operating procedures for managing crowds, including protocols for dealing with emergencies as well as provisions for reserved seating, security systems, access control and advanced check-in solutions to prevent bottlenecks while ensuring smooth crowd flow. 'There shall be independent audits of every venue's capacity, entry/exit routes, emergency evacuation options and communication systems,' reads the draft. 'Venues that don't comply with safety standards should not be allowed to host high footfall events.' In case of emergency, the jurisdictional police station may postpone or cancel the event, or change its by event planners shall be punished with 'imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years or with fine up to Rs 5 lakh'. 'The event planner is responsible to pay the compensation to the person who is severely injured in such an event, mass gathering pertaining to political rally, jatra, conference etc, or compensation to the family member of the deceased. In case of the event planner not paying the compensation, the government may collect the amount as arrears of land revenue. The event planner's property can be auctioned by the government,' the bill outrage following the tragic loss of lives at the RCB victory celebrations had put the Siddaramaiah-led Congress on the backfoot, even as the Karnataka High Court registered a suo motu petition to hear the matter. The CM sacked his close aide and political advisor K. Govindaraju, while ordering the suspensions of five police officers, including the city police commissioner. A day after the incident, representatives of RCB and an event management company were placed under arrest. Meanwhile, even as a separate probe by the district magistrate is underway, the government instituted an inquiry under retired judge Justice John Michael The Congress government also came under attack from opposition parties, which took out protests holding the government responsible for the tragedy and demanded the CM's to India Today Magazine
