Vanderbilt eliminates Tennessee baseball in 2025 SEC Tournament semifinals
No. 4 seed Vanderbilt (40-16) No. 8 seed Tennessee (43-15), 10-0, in six innings in the semifinals of the 2025 SEC Tournament Saturday at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Alabama.
The game marks the first time that the Vols have been shut out and the second time that Tennessee has been run-ruled this season.
The Commodores scored one run in the first, four in the second and two in the third before adding three in the sixth.
Tennessee recorded just four hits in the contest as Reese Chapman hit a double, while Hunter Ensley, Dean Curley and Stone Lawless each had singles.
Tegan Kuhns started for Tennessee and pitched 1.1 innings and recorded one strikeout. He allowed five hits, four runs and zero walks. Kuhns totaled 33 pitches, including 16 strikes, against eight batters.
Dylan Loy, Tanner Franklin, Brayden Krenzel and Andrew Behnke each appeared in relief for the Vols.
Saturday's other semifinal matchup will feature No. 3 seed LSU (43-13) against No. 7 seed Ole Miss (39-18). First pitch between the Tigers and Rebels is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. EDT.

Tennessee football passing yard leaders each season since 2000
2025 will mark the fifth football season for Tennessee under head coach Josh Heupel. He compiled a 37-15 (20-12 SEC) record since 2021 with the Vols. Heupel has also defeated Alabama and Florida two times each. Tennessee's 2025 campaign will kick off Aug. 30 against Syracuse. Other quarterbacks to lead Tennessee in passing yards for a season under Heupel were Joe Milton III in 2023 (2,813) and Nico Iamaleava during the 2024 campaign (2,616). Ayers selected as Happy Valley High School head baseball coach

Ayers previously coached the Happy Valley Middle School (HVMS) baseball team for the past three years and will move to HVHS for the 2025-26 season as head coach.
