Display details of fee fixation panels: Edu dept to pvt schools

Ranchi: The district education department has asked all private schools in the city to prominently display the names and contact details of their fee fixation committees (FFC) and parent-teacher committees (PTC) on their premises.
Schools have been told complete this display work during the ongoing summer vacation.
This directive follows earlier instructions to all private schools to constitute both the FFCs and PTCs. Department officials said only 50 out of 150 schools have complied so far. "However, many of these schools did not make the details of the committees public, which is required," Badal Raj, the district superintendent of education (DSE), said.
Raj said, "The step aims to empower parents by ensuring transparency in school administration, especially concerning fee structures. If a school increases its fees, parents can now raise concerns directly with the committee members. In addition to tuition fee hikes, parents can also file complaints related to increased charges in other categories."
To address such issues, a district-level committee and a dedicated monitoring cell have been set up to act on any valid complaint.
These measures align with the provisions of the Jharkhand Education Tribunal (Amendment) Act of 2017, which calls for the formation of fee-related committees at both the school and district levels to prevent irregularities.
The department clarified that no private school can increase its fees, whether below or above 10%, without consensus between the FFCs and PTCs. If a school seeks to increase fees beyond 10 percent, it must obtain prior approval from the district-level committee. Additionally, a reminder will be issued to schools that have not yet formed the committees. If they fail to comply, a show-cause notice will be served to them.
Principal of Kairali School, Rajesh Pillai, said, "We are using the summer vacation period to put up the committee names and contact numbers. The information will be displayed before the schools reopen."

Pulicat ‘land grab': Shrimp farm units may face action

CHENNAI: A day after damning report by the Save Ennore Creek Campaign exposing illegal shrimp farms encroaching on wetlands in the Pulicat bird sanctuary's Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ), the Tamil Nadu forest department confirmed key allegations and announced possible action. In a communication to chief wildlife warden, the Chennai Chief Conservator of Forests, Ritto Cyriac, stated that the aquaculture farms in Thangalperumbulam village indeed fall within the 10 km default ESZ of the sanctuary. The forest department clarified that no permissions or No Objection Certificates (NOCs) had been granted for aquaculture activities in the area. More critically, the wildlife warden and district collector have reported that these farms —operating since 2008-09 — did not receive mandatory approvals from either the sub-divisional or district-level committees, as required under the Coastal Aquaculture Authority (Amendment) Act, 2023. The collector's office may issue show cause notices for unregistered and illegally functioning units, sources said. 'The coastal aquaculture farms can be registered only if it is recommended by sub-divisional committee/district-level committee prescribed in the CAA Act. It is informed by collector and wildlife warden that, the above committees have not recommended registration of these farms,' Ritto said. While he claimed the farms are in patta lands, revenue records show around 62 acres of government poramboke land classified as grazing grounds and floodplains have been encroached.

Mark attendance on portal or face salary cuts, govt teachers told

1 2 Ranchi: In a stern warning to all govt schoolteachers across the district, the Ranchi district education department has asked them to mark their daily attendance on the e-Vidya Vahini portal or face salary cuts. Teachers not marking attendance on the portal will be deemed absent for the day and their salaries will be deducted. Deputy commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri on Friday said the decision was taken after receiving multiple reports of non-compliance from various schools across. "Despite several reminders, many teachers were lax in updating their attendance on the digital system, hampering real-time monitoring of school functioning," he said. The directive states that teachers failing to mark their attendance on the platform will face proportionate salary deductions for the days missed. The department shared that approximately 70% of teachers are marking their attendance on the portal while 25% are non-compliant. Around 5% of the teachers across the district are on approved leaves. District superintendent of education, Badal Raj, said, "Anyone not on approved leave and failing to mark attendance on the portal, regardless of the reason, such as late arrival, will be marked absent if no prior intimation is given. The e-Vidya Vahini platform has been designed to bring transparency and efficiency in the functioning of schools. Teachers must understand that accurate and timely attendance is their responsibility. " Raj added, "This is a step to ensure discipline and data accuracy. Many govt initiatives like mid-day meal planning, student-teacher ratio, and learning outcome monitoring depend on real-time teacher attendance data."
