Kaizer Chiefs close in on Sundowns forgotten man Etiosa Ighodaro
Kaizer Chiefs have reignited their pursuit of Etiosa Ighodaro and look set to secure the Mamelodi Sundowns striker ahead of their crucial pre-season preparations in the Netherlands.
The Soweto giants previously tried to lure Ighodaro when he impressed during his loan spell at Chippa United. However, Mamelodi Sundowns blocked the deal and instead sent the Nigerian forward to SuperSport United.
Now, Amakhosi are back in the race, and this time, they appear determined to get their man.
Ighodaro has officially applied for a visa to travel to the Netherlands, fuelling speculation that a move to Kaizer Chiefs is imminent. The 2025/2026 season looms, and Amakhosi's intent to bolster their attacking line-up is clear.
After scoring six goals on loan at AmaZulu FC last season, Ighodaro finds himself out of favour at Sundowns, potentially clearing the path for a permanent switch to Naturena.
A trusted insider revealed that they have shifted towards Ighodaro because main target Fiston Mayele reportedly has no intention of moving to South Africa to ply his trade.
'Chiefs have made it clear that they need a striker before they start their pre-season training camp in the Netherlands and Ighodaro is that man, given the difficulties of getting Mayele.'
The club's management continues to scout the market aggressively, but Ighodaro has emerged as the leading candidate to spearhead the attack under new leadership.
With the Dutch tour fast approaching, Kaizer Chiefs look ready to strike, and this time, they won't let Ighodaro slip through their fingers.
Will Ighodaro fit in at Kaizer Chiefs?

Kaizer Chiefs missing four players, including Duba!
Kaizer Chiefs returned to training in preparation for their upcoming pre-season tour in Europe, which will see them take on Dutch giants FC Utrecht. However, as they returned for their first training session on June 20, onlookers noticed four absentees: Mduduzi Shabalala, Bruce Bvuma, Wandile Duba, and Aden McCarthy. The reasoning behind their non-inclusion is that they recently participated in the COSAFA Cup, which was deemed sufficient to grant them additional time off before returning to practice. Each player is expected to board a plane to the Netherlands. PSL winner Percy Tau has made it clear that he is happy to join AmaKhosi for next to nothing; however, former Kaizer Chiefs forward Katlego Mphela believes this would be a mistake. 'In the past few seasons Chiefs have not been doing well despite winning a trophy last season and they need players who will help them change the team's fortunes,' said Mphela. 'But I don't think signing Percy Tau will be the solution if you look at the history of most former Sundowns players who joined Chiefs, including myself. We don't live up to expectations. There are a lot of expectations, and that puts pressure on the players.' 'Look at what happened to Keagan Dolly, Khama Billiat or Edward Manqele.' 'Yes, they are different players but expectations are the same and history is the same,' he added. 'It's a tricky one because Percy has a lot of quality and experience but the history will tell Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Kaizer Chiefs chase teenage sensation!
Kaizer Chiefs are monitoring teenage sensation Neo Rapoo but would like to get a deal done soon with Orlando Pirates also in the conversation. The 19-year-old has been making a name for himself, albeit playing for SuperSport United, who were idling around the relegation playoffs for the majority of last season. 'Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are both keen to sign SuperSport United left-back Neo Rapoo ahead of the new season,' an inside source revealed. 'His performances as he led South Africa U20 to the Africa Cup of Nations title earned him interest in Scandinavia and the Gulf but sources as Matsatsansa have confirmed Chiefs and Pirates are both seriously after the player who is seen as future senior national team left-back.' 'With Orlando Pirates having released Paseka Mako and the retirement of Innocent Maela, their interest on the promising full-back comes as no surprise, while Chiefs are looking to remedy a position that has plagued them in the last couple of seasons.' The Lonehill-native amassed 11 league appearances, during which he assisted once. Another player Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates both want is AmaKhosi Laurindo Depu Aurelio. 'What I can tell you is that both teams had their scouts there. The scouts were all happy with what they saw in Depu and they enquired about him,' a source confirmed. 'Apparently Kaizer Chiefs wanted their defender Inacio Miguel to help them talk to the player and his representatives. And Orlando Pirates also believed to be willing to talk to the player. They have their different reasons but apparently the scouts from both clubs are happy with what they saw.' A second source confirmed the rumour, saying, 'Apparently Chiefs don't want to dwell much on Feisal Salum if the price is still that high and will now consider Depu.'
