ACB Summons KTR for Formula E Race Inquiry
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has issued a notice to K. T. Rama Rao (KTR), the Working President of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and former Minister, requiring him to attend questioning on Monday, the 16th of this month at 10 am, in relation to the Formula E Race case.
Previously, the ACB had summoned KTR on May 26, asking him to appear for questioning on May 28. However, he was unable to attend due to a tour in America. KTR informed the ACB of his foreign commitments and indicated his willingness to cooperate once he returned. The ACB subsequently agreed to reschedule and has now issued another notice for his appearance.
It is important to note that KTR has previously attended questioning sessions with both the ACB and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) concerning the same case. On January 6, he arrived at the ACB for an inquiry with his legal team but departed when officials did not permit him to enter. He returned to the ACB for questioning on January 8, where he was interrogated for approximately seven hours. Although he was called again on January 9, KTR requested additional time to respond to the inquiry.
In addition, the ACB has questioned Arvind Kumar, Secretary of the Municipal Department, and BLN Reddy, the former Chief Engineer of HMDA, as part of its investigation. The inquiry stems from allegations of the misuse of ₹55 crores related to the Formula E race, which was held in Hyderabad during the BRS administration.

"Since it is a mock parliament, we have decided to enrol at least 40% of the youth who can speak in favour of the topic. This would serve the purpose of striking a balance during the event," UP BJP yuva morcha's state general secretary and in charge of the campaign, Varun Goyal told TOI. The BJP has decided to register at least 18,000 youths in the 18-25 age group for the event, which will see a clash of pro and anti-Emergency views. These youths will be screened by a committee of the BJP yuva morcha, and at least 80-100 people will be shortlisted for each of the nine districts — Meerut, Jhansi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Ghaziabad, Aligarh and Bareilly — where the event will be organised. However, Goyal said, the party is not able to get that many youths who can speak in favour of the Emergency. "We are somehow convincing a host of them to do so," he said, asserting that most of the youth want to speak against Gandhi's decision to impose the Emergency. He said that today's youth was guided by the present-day political dispensation, which sought to inculcate the feeling of nationalism and democracy. Analysts believe that encouraging youth to argue for the Emergency may well be part of a mock exercise where debating controversial topics from all sides fosters critical thinking and rhetorical skill. Nevertheless, experts said, by inviting young people to argue in favour of the Emergency, the BJP aims to ultimately discredit those arguments by confronting them head-on with counterpoints. This can also provide the BJP with harder ammunition to further criticise Congress while letting those arguments hang in public only to get them torn down with stronger rebuttals, say analysts.

ACB arrests AMC estate inspector in disproportionate assets case
The Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested an estate inspector of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) for alleged possession of disproportionate assets (DA) to the tune of Rs 3.07 crore, according to a statement. The ACB statement issued on Thursday stated that the accused Jignesh Surendra Shah, a Class-2 Estate/TDO Inspector of East Zone of the AMC, was booked and arrested for the alleged possession of disproportionate assets (DA) to the tune of Rs 3.07 crore, which it alleged was 102.47% disproportionate to his known sources of income. According to the statement, the ACB conducted its preliminary inquiry based on an application it received regarding Shah's allegedly disproportionate assets. The ACB said that the period of investigation ranged between April 1, 2012 and March 31, 2022, during which the officer had allegedly used unlawful means to accumulate disproportionate assets. The investigation is being carried out by ACB Police Inspector VD Chaudhary. Further probe into the matter is underway.

SIT summons BJP leader in T'gana phone-tapping case
The Special Investigation Team of the Telangana police probing the alleged phone tapping during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi regime, summoned a close aide of Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay for questioning in connection with the case, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) disclosed on Friday. The statement said the SIT, which began its investigation into phone tapping after the Congress came to power, had already confirmed that Bandi Sanjay's phone had been tapped (HT Archive) In a statement, the Telangana BJP said the SIT officials had confirmed on Friday that the phone of Bandi Sanjay's close aide and BJP Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency convenor, Boyinapalli Praveen Rao, was tapped during the previous BRS regime. 'The SIT authorities called up Praveen Rao and informed him that his phone number was also in the list of those which were tapped. They said they would summon him shortly, and he would be required to appear before the investigating authorities for questioning,' the BJP said. Meanwhile, BJP state general secretary Gujjula Premender Reddy, too, confirmed that he had received the information from the investigating authorities that his phone, too, was tapped during the previous regime. The statement said the SIT, which began its investigation into phone tapping after the Congress came to power, had already confirmed that Bandi Sanjay's phone had been tapped. 'Now, the investigation has revealed that the phones of his staff and close associates were also tapped,' it said. The party said Praveen Rao has been a long-time associate of Bandi Sanjay and had managed Sanjay's election campaigns in the past. 'In recent years, Praveen Rao has served as Sanjay's personal assistant and the BJP Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency convenor, coordinating constituency tours and supervising the execution of various programmes,' it said. It said Praveen Rao had taken part in the agitations of Sanjay during the BRS regime against forcible implementation of GO 317 (on employees' transfers), leakage of Class 10 examination paper, communal violence at Bhainsa and other such incidents. 'He was even named as a co-accused in several public agitation-related cases alongside Sanjay,' the party said. Premender Reddy also said the SIT authorities had informed him, too, that his phone was also tapped during the BRS regime. 'I shall hand over all the evidence and other details of my mobile phone to the Jubilee Hills police on Monday,' he said, adding that if the police did not take any action even after gathering all the details, the state government would be held responsible.
