Rana Naidu 2 review: Strong family drama, but familiar stereotypes in average show
Actor Rana Daggubati is once again back with his crime-thriller series 'Rana Naidu 2'. Daggubati plays the titular role in the action-packed show, as the fixer stuck between family responsibilities and the menacing world of crime. In the second season, Rana is faced with a Herculean challenge when ghosts of his past strike back, and he is forced to reaffirm his ties to the underworld and corrupt business tycoons.advertisementDespite his wife Naina's (Surveen Chawla) persistent persuasion of Rana to sever ties with all clients possessing criminal records, the Naidu family finds itself unwillingly entangled in a messy conspiracy. 'Rana Nadu 2' creator, Karan Anshuman, has amicably blended Rana's inner struggle to defend his family against rivals, while also trying to cope with his relationship with his wife, children, brothers and father. The recurring theme of the show is the aftermath of crime and deceit on the families of criminals. However, the show goes beyond the usual trope and brings a human perspective to the mindset of a wife, daughter and a brother. It shows their resilience and breakdown while enduring life threats and uncertainty because of their association with the world of crime.
In spite of an interesting storyline, 'Rana Naidu 2' is entirely dependent on the stellar performances and sensitive portrayal of human relations. Rana (Rana Daggubati) and Naga (Venkatesh Daggubati) have the same charismatic appeal with their on-screen banter and complement each other without getting overboard. Both actors take the story forward with their screen presence and convincing acting prowess. The actors and co-directors Karan Anshuman, Suparn Varma and Abhay Chopra have done a commendable job by refraining from glorifying Naga and Rana for their misdeeds.advertisementThe most challenging aspect in a crime show is the responsible depiction of female characters. Surveen Chawla once again surprises as the feisty, empowered, caring yet unapologetic Naina. The layers in Naina's character as a caring mother and daughter-in-law, despite dealing with a troubled marriage, showcase Chawla's range and versatility. This, in turn, helps in justifying her relationships with other characters. The unique aspect of 'Rana Naidu 2' is that it takes time to establish the interpersonal bond between all the characters amidst the violence and treachery. The intention of the show is not just to simply rely on expletives, bloodshed and action, but the relatability of human emotions - although the story does get repetitive in between with certain expected stereotypes.Rajat Kapoor plays the shrewd industrialist, with his ambitious daughter and jealous son essayed by Kriti Kharbanda and Tanuj Virwani respectively. However, their characters don't add any depth to the plot. Kapoor is always impressive as a thespian, but Kharbanda and Virwani don't have much to do in spite of their appealing screen presence. A bit more focus on their backstory and motivations could have helped the audiences resonate with their characters. However, Sushant Singh and Abhishek Banerjee once again steal the show with their acting brilliance. Their emotional availability in intense scenes keeps you engaged till the end.advertisementWhile Dino Morea has limited screen-time, the actor does justice to a morally conflicted character. Arjun Rampal as the ruthless antagonist, invokes his inner beast with one of his best performances. The actor brings a novelty to his character after playing a real-life gangster in 'Daddy' (2017).Karan Anshuman, Ryan Soares, Karmanya Ahuja, Karan Gour and Ananya Mody have done incredible writing work with their emphasis on issues like child abuse and marital tensions.Although most crime stories advocate the outcome of committing crimes, 'Rana Naidu 2' also conveys the strength of family bonding during uncertainties. While parenting and adolescent issues have been showcased in many shows, 'Rana Naidu 2' doesn't just bring the narrative for the sake of it. Rana and Naina's approach to modern parenting gives a more passionate insight into the universal emotion to what extent parents can sacrifice for their children. What makes the Naidu family stand out in the big bad world of crime is their selfless love for each other. While gore, profanity and on-screen intimacy may be suitable for mature viewers, the new season has definitely hit the bull's eye in bringing a more compassionate side to a crime series.advertisementIf you are looking for a gripping crime thriller that also explores deep human emotions, then 'Rana Naidu 2' should be your pick this weekend. The show is available for streaming on Netflix.3 out of 5 stars for 'Rana Nadu 2'.

The Times of India's International Day of Yoga celebration turned into a vibrant wellness fest on Saturday as families, especially women and children, came together for a morning filled with movement, mindfulness, and a whole lot of energy. The event was organised at Mantri Webcity, Hennur. Held to promote holistic well-being, the event brought together a rich mix of traditional and modern fitness formats. From calming asanas to high-energy dance routines, the session had something for everyone. Residents were treated to a blend of practices, including Ashtanga yoga, led by in-house trainers Naina and Deepti, Vedic yoga, Kundalini yoga with Shri Manjunath Sampath Guruji, and even Chinese yoga by Falun Dafa. Fitness took a fun turn with a lively Zumba session by The Swingers Dance Studio, which had everyone moving to the beat by the end of the programme. What started with slow stretches and deep breathing soon turned into an energetic celebration of wellness. Kids were seen enjoying flexibility drills while many women participated enthusiastically in the Zumba finale. Pragya Sharma, a housewife who attended the different yoga shows, told TOI: "I used to do yoga before marriage, and I still love it. But now, with two kids, I don't get much time. That's why today's event was such a great opportunity not just for me, but for many of us at Mantri Webcity who don't usually get time for ourselves." Shradha, a college student, said, "This is the first time something like this has happened in our apartment, and I really loved it. I came alone because I'm more interested in yoga than my family is. I enjoyed the yoga session and the games; it was a fun and refreshing way to spend the morning." Adding to the festive spirit were stalls offering fresh juice and light refreshments, along with engaging fitness games hosted by Decathlon, making it a family-friendly event. Interesting outdoor activities by Decathlon and a green corner by Make My Garden for plants engaged citizens. This blend of tradition and fun truly captured the spirit of International Day of Yoga — reminding everyone that wellness can be both mindful and joyful. The initiative was made possible by associate sponsors CKPC, with BB Daily as the fresh grocery partner, BIS as the safety partner, and Sundaram Motors as the luxury car partner. The initiative was supported by Oreva Chain of Hearing Clinics, Neev Mattresses, Dash Square, Unilet, Can Fin Homes Ltd, and Jyothy Institute of Technology.

Armaan Mallik's new song Baari Baari is a groovy Hindi-Punjabi pop track
'People think that I only sing romantic songs, but I have a lot more to offer musically and creatively. I wanted to take a very unconventional approach to my music, and I think that is what we have channelled for this song,' says singer Armaan Mallik, who is stepping out of his romance era for his next single 'Baari Baari'. Released on June 18, the song is composed by his brother and long-time collaborator, Amaal Mallik, and lyrics were written by singer-songwriter Youngveer. Armaan and his brother Amaal have collaborated on other hit numbers such as 'Main Rahoon Ya Na Rahoon', 'Bol Do Na Zara', 'Naina' and more. 'We both know each other's taste so well, that we are synced now whenever we come into a room to make a song. He knows exactly what I would love to sing, and I know exactly the zone that he is going to create,' says Armaan about their collaboration. 'I think we both complete each other's sentences in a way. If I start the line he completes it or if he starts the line, I complete it,' he says. 'Baari Baari' has a groovy, relaxed vibe that dabbles in Hindi and Punjabi. 'My brief was simple. I wanted Punjabi that is consumable and can be understood by everyone in the country. As we were building the song we thought that a Hindi-Punjabi fusion would be the best fit,' he adds over a phone call from Delhi. Unlike an album, which often involves a larger concept and longer timelines, 'Baari Baari' was created as a standalone single with a more focussed approach. 'With a single, the advantage is that you are focussed on one song and making sure it is the best it can be,' says Armaan. 'An album is a journey. It has a theme, takes time, and there are many moving parts. A single like 'Baari Baari' is laser-focussed on its sound and vibe.' Though the song was recorded a year ago, he adds, they waited for the right moment to release it. Remarkably, the final version retains the original one-take demo vocal recorded during the song's early stages. While 'Baari Baari' marks a fresh chapter in his independent music journey, Armaan hints at more releases in the pipeline. 'There is a lot of amazing music coming after this,' he says, adding that fans can expect a new track around his birthday on July 22. He is also working on a few English pop songs that have been in the vault for some time, and plans to take them to the stage later this year as part of a multi-city tour. Even as he builds his catalogue of pop-driven melodies, Armaan is not afraid to push the envelope. 'Something I have not really put out there is me rapping,' he says with a laugh. 'I think it would definitely surprise a lot of people.' A possible rap-electronic fusion is something he is keen to experiment with. 'Everyone expects the love songs, but no one would probably expect me to do a rap track — hopefully that will be really interesting,' he concludes. 'Baari Baari' is now streaming on Spotify and YouTube

This is how Arjun Rampal prepared for his role Rauf in 'Rana Naidu 2'
Mumbai: Actor Arjun Rampal has been garnering a lot of attention for his portrayal as Rauf in the second season of the beloved web series, "Rana Naidu". However, did you know that Rampal needed some push before saying yes to the project? Recalling the incident, the 'Om Shanti Om' actor said, 'I was skeptical at first. I wanted to understand the character's journey and arc. Karan made me feel very, very comfortable. Then I binge-watched Season 1. The writing, the performances, the emotional undercurrents—it all just clicked.' It was the creative interaction with the creators of the show - Karan Anshuman, Suparn Verma, and Abhay Chopra that changed things for Rampal. Sharing the essence of Rauf, the 'Rock On!!' actor said, 'Rauf's not your typical bad guy. He makes you think he's a good guy and then he terrifies you.' Once he signed the dotted line, Rampal left no stone unturned to make his character more convincing on screen. Tapping into some real-life experiences, he learned about a few chilling anecdotes from gangsters. 'Some of the stuff I've heard is wild. One guy told me he hid in a morgue for a week to avoid getting caught. It sounds absurd, but that's the point—the underworld isn't just dark, it's bizarre," Rampal remembered. On Friday, Rampal recalled how the team of "Rana Naidu 2" spent nine hours at his home two years ago, leading him to be a part of the show. Taking to his Instagram account, he dropped a BTS clip featuring him and others from the drama. The video was accompanied by a note that read, 'Dear team Rana Naidu, it's Friday the 13th June 2025. We are in people's homes from today. I just want to take this moment to Thank you the whole Rana Naidu family, who 2 years ago came into my home and took 9hrs of my life, leaving me pondering, that I would love to do something like that. It was like from my mouth to Gods ears.' "Rana Naidu 2" premiered on Netflix on June 13.
