Texas A&M softball is the No. 1 seed in the NCAA softball tournament for the first time ever.
The Aggies finished third in the SEC standings during the regular season but reached the SEC Softball Tournament championship game against Oklahoma. However, with the game being washed out due to inclement weather, Texas A&M could not prove it could defeat the defending champions just yet.

Texas A&M finished the season ranked No. 1 in RPI and hoped that it would be enough to get them the No. 1 overall seed over the Sooners, who won the SEC regular season championship.
NCAA Softball Committee Chair Kurt McGuffin talked to ESPN's Holly Rowe during the Selection Show to discuss why the Aggies earned the No. 1 seed.
"I think what sets apart Texas A&M was 19 top 25 wins, which is No. 1 in the country," McGuffin said. "They also had two quality nonconference wins vs. Florida State and Texas Tech. I think those were the two pieces that set them for the No. 1 seed."
Texas A&M will open the Bryan-College Station Regional by hosting Saint Francis (PA) at 3:30 p.m. ET on May 16. The Aggies will also host Marist and Liberty. If they advance, they are poised to play the winner of the Eugene Regional and No. 16 Oregon.

Heading into the 2025 campaign, the freshman joined fellow teammate and outfielder Terrence Kiel II as the two Aggies to make Perfect Game USA's Top 75 Freshman list. According to the outlet's evaluation of Farr during Texas A&M's fall ball in 2024, he showed promise from both sides of the plate entering his first season in Aggieland. "Armed with real switch hit juice, true freshman Sawyer Farr, hit some balls extremely hard in looks and got some good starts at second base, though the frame and athlete may move him to the left side of the dirt long term." Both Farr and Kiel are now officially returning for their sophomore seasons in the Maroon and White uniform, which provides Earley's club with speed on the basepath and consistent hitting at the plate if they reach their full potential. Farr's announcement on Saturday night continues to grow the flame that the Aggies are trying to build back as preparations begin for offseason work in College Station. 2026 5-star Edge shuts down recruitment after committing to Texas A&M
This weekend, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko and his staff hosted 10 more recruits in the 2026 recruiting class, including five-star edge Tristian Givens, who was set to make his commitment between Washington, Tennessee, and the Aggies on Monday. However, his official visit to College Station reportedly sealed the deal, as the standout pass rusher announced his commitment on Saturday afternoon. Givens is considered a blue-chip prospect with the potential to become a Day 1 NFL Draft selection. While he is still raw as an every-down starter, the Georgia native is one of the most athletically gifted defenders in the 2026 class. Elko and his staff deserve a lot of credit for identifying developmental prospects early in the process, before their recruiting ranking explodes, and fending off late attention, which was the case for Givens. Right after his commitment, Givens joined wide receiver Aaron Gregory, running back Jonathan Hatton, and tight end Caleb Tafua in shutting down his recruitment, stating, "I'm home. Recruitment shutdown," after his announcement was made. This is significant news given his potential, as the trust all 19 2026 commits have in Elko and his coaching staff is a great sign moving forward. Throughout the offseason, Elko has continued to discuss the need for future NFL talent on the recruiting trail, trusting his staff to not only find position fits but also scout talented prospects who are willing to put in the work and stick with their development track. Texas A&M will enter the 2025 season with one of the top offensive lines in the country, based on experience and recruiting talent, as all five starters from the beginning of the 2024 season return to the lineup, paired with six freshman O-linemen from the 2025 signing class, led by five-star tackle Lamont Rogers, who could see the field sooner than later.
