Pet Appreciation Week 2025: 30 quotes and messages to honor your furry friend

Hindustan Times02-06-2025

Pet Appreciation Week is upon us, and it's time to extend a special round of warmth for our furry friends. Started in 1981, this week typically begins on the first Sunday of June and lasts up until the next Saturday, which means that this year the week will last from June 1 to June 7. Given hectic schedules and busy lifestyles, pet owners often tend to filter through the love that is due to their pets. Hence, this week is a time for pet owners to let all barriers loose and go the extra mile in appreciating and treating those closest to their hearts.

Police investigation after two people stabbed

A police investigation is under way after two people were stabbed. Devon and Cornwall Police said the victims were stabbed "multiple times" at a property on Reskadinnick Road in Camborne, Cornwall, just after midnight. Police said both victims were taken to hospital with injuries "not believed to be life-threatening" while a man in his 20s was arrested. Det Ch Insp Steve Fleetwood said: "Although an isolated incident, we appreciate that this will have caused local concern amongst the community." "The incident happened just after midnight inside the address," said Mr Fleetwood. "Two victims received multiple stab wounds and were taken to hospital where they are receiving treatment. "The suspect is a 20-year-old man who is known to the victims. "He was swiftly arrested, and a knife has since been recovered." The force said a scene guard remains in place and officers are progressing the investigation. Mr Fleetwood added: "We will continue to be in the area this afternoon and advise anyone with concerns to come up and speak to officers. "We have one man in custody, and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the matter." England rally at Headingley after Rishabh Pant's scintillating century

Tons from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill put India in charge on 359 for three on day one after they were asked to bat first and Pant cemented their dominance by turning his overnight 65 into a stunning 134. With India 430 for three, England were staring down the barrel but the tourists lost four for 24, which included overnight batters Gill and Pant, to go to lunch on 454 for seven in sultry conditions. Captain Gill holed out off Shoaib Bashir for a masterful 147 and Ollie Pope took a stunning catch to end Karun Nair's Test comeback after four balls, while Pant was lbw to Josh Tongue as India teetered. The wickets are falling thick and fast now! A HUGE inswinger from Josh Tongue sees the end of Rishabh Pant 😍 🇮🇳 4️⃣5️⃣3️⃣-6️⃣ — England Cricket (@englandcricket) June 21, 2025 Ben Stokes then took his fourth wicket of the innings when he found the outside edge of Shardul Thakur from the final ball before lunch, leaving India with work to do to get to an imposing 500. It was a far cry from a wicketless first hour, with Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse again struggling to make an impact. The most memorable moment came with the last ball before drinks when Ben Duckett's throw hit team-mate Harry Brook in the ribs attempting to run Gill out as he scampered for a single. Bashir was targeted by Pant, who brought up a seventh Test ton in style with a one-handed six before removing his helmet and gloves and celebrating the achievement with a front somersault. Gill sought to get to 150 in similarly buccaneering fashion but found only Tongue in the deep before Jamie Smith missed a stumping chance off Pant the ball after he had deposited Bashir into the stands. Nair's first Test innings for India since 2017 was a brief affair as a drive off Stokes was excellently pouched by Pope, diving full length to his left. Tongue, who had been curiously overlooked up until 20 minutes before lunch, then jagged one back into Pant's pads and got the lbw verdict, before Thakur nicked off to Stokes on the stroke of lunch.

Bundee Aki urges Lions to learn from Argentina defeat

The Lions slipped to a 28-24 defeat against Argentina in Dublin as they lost their tour opener for the first time since 1971, albeit against dangerous opponents whose surgical finishing demonstrated why they are ranked fifth in the world. Andy Farrell's men fly to Perth on Saturday and have four weeks to find the improvements needed to turn their ambitious but error-strewn performance into a formula capable of toppling the Wallabies. 'Faz set out the aim for us to win every single game. To not be able to come out with the result that we wanted in the first game…this has got to be one of those things that we learn from quickly,' Aki said. A big thank you to our incredible fans 🫶🦁#Lions2025 — British & Irish Lions (@lionsofficial) June 20, 2025 'We're adults, we're old enough to be able to take it on the chin and move on quickly. Faz gives it to us straight, there's no mucking around or no hiding here, he just tells you how it is. 'There's no point in trying to sulk about it. If we bounce back quickly and try to get better every single day, this will only make us stronger and tighter.' Aki's heavyweight centre partnership with Sione Tuipulotu generated the most excitement in selection ahead of the sold-out clash at the Aviva Stadium, but the combination failed to add up to the sum of its parts. While the Ireland centre showed his strength as a carrier to surge over in the first half and Tuipulotu had his moments with the ball in hand, together they were unable to link in the way the Lions were seeking and are unlikely to be used in tandem in the Test series. 'We all know how Sione is as a player, he's class. The frustrating thing for me was I wasn't able to connect well with him,' Aki said. 'He's an unbelievable player and there's no excuses, we've got to get better as a partnership going forward. 'Whoever plays – Garry Ringrose, Huw Jones, Elliot Daly – as a unit we've got to make sure we gel together and try to get that cohesiveness fairly quickly because we need to be better. 'Sione has been my roomy lately. He snores a fair bit at the moment, so he keeps me up at night! But he's a great man. It's all over in Dublin. Congratulations on the win @lospumas, that was some contest 🤝#Lions2025 — British & Irish Lions (@lionsofficial) June 20, 2025 'He speaks out loud, which is good because we need him to be himself. I just feed off him and he feeds off me. So it's brilliant, but we've just got to be better and keep learning together.' Aki, fly-half Fin Smith, prop Ellis Genge and wing Tommy Freeman were among those to advance their claims for a spot against Australia in the first Test on July 19, while Duhan van der Merwe and Ben Earl took a step backwards. Aki admits that when they arise, chances to impress selectors during the 10-fixture itinerary must be taken. 'When there's a group of 38 players from four different countries, you've obviously got to make sure you perform,' he said. 'Every single player that's been picked in the squad has to be able to do a job and if you don't deliver, there are guys who are willing to put their hand up and take that opportunity.'
