PM: Gov't looking forward to self-sustained economic system
CAIRO, May 21 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said the government is working on detailed plan for 2030 that goes beyond the IMF program, which concludes by the end of 2026, or early 2027 at most.
'We are looking forward to a national program that does not depend on any other international institution,' the premier added during a news briefing following the cabinet weekly meeting on Wednesday.
He noted that the 2030 covers to a set of achievable targets, most prominent among which are sustaining of high growth rates, lowering inflation rates, reducing unemployment, and focusing on the social dimension.
In addition, many indicators, including industrial development and advanced technology, will gain the government primary focus over the period ahead, while working for maximizing of the potential of the tourism and ICT industries, and looking forward to optimizing all advanced systems and artificial intelligence tools in all aspects of life, Madbouly said during the press conference.
As for the challenges facing the Universal Health Insurance System, Madbouly said the government is considering adding a new governorate with a population of over 5 million to the second phase of the system roll-out, bringing total number of covered governorates to 12.
He said the government is keen on ensuring the financial sustainability of the universal health insurance coverage, pointing out that the government did not start with densely populated governorates in order to build a strong financial system from the system's revenues.

CAIRO, June 19 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a meeting on Thursday with members of the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) as part of efforts to follow up on the center's activities, particularly regarding peace and security on the African continent. The move comes in preparation for the fifth edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development. The meeting reviewed the center's recent activities and training programs aimed at enhancing capacity building in areas of conflict resolution, peacekeeping, and peacebuilding, especially in sisterly African countries; within the framework of Egypt's support for the continent's peace and development agenda, the foreign ministry said in a statement. The meeting also touched on ongoing preparations for the fifth edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, scheduled for October 19-20, with high-level African and international participation along with thought leaders, entrepreneurs, and civil society organizations. Abdelatty emphasized the pivotal role played by CCCPA as a tool of preventive diplomacy and praised the tangible achievements it has made in recent years as regards training both civilian and military cadres from various countries, thereby enhancing Egypt's status as a regional and international hub of expertise in areas of peace and security. OPEN// Egypt reaffirms call for holistic approach to refugee issues
CAIRO, June 20 (MENA) - Egypt has emphasized the importance of addressing refugee issues through a comprehensive approach that balances both humanitarian and development dimensions. Such a strategy aims to enhance the resilience of host communities while simultaneously supporting peace efforts that tackle the root causes of displacement in refugees' countries of origin, helping to create conditions for safe, voluntary, and dignified return and preventing the recurrence of crises, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement Friday marking World Refugee Day. Egypt reaffirmed its commitment to continued cooperation with international organizations concerned with refugee affairs, particularly the UNHCR, and its ongoing efforts at the regional and international levels to support conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and sustainable development. The ministry said Egypt has long served as a safe haven for those forced to leave their homes under dire circumstances. Currently, the country hosts 10 million refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants from 62 different nationalities, and continues to uphold its international obligations in this regard, it added. Egypt ranked second globally in the number of asylum applications filed in 2024, the statement said. The country adopts a dignity-centered policy toward refugees and asylum seekers, ensuring freedom of movement and access to basic services comparable to those provided to Egyptian citizens, thereby facilitating their integration into society, it added. In a global context marked by escalating crises and armed conflicts, particularly in the Middle East, with refugee numbers reaching unprecedented levels worldwide, Egypt stressed that international cooperation remains the only effective and sustainable path to address refugee issues in all their dimensions. The ministry also highlighted that with the adoption of Egypt's first national asylum law in December 2024 as the first North African country to pass such legislation. Cairo reiterates the need to intensify global efforts to ensure fair and sustainable implementation of burden- and responsibility-sharing principles, including by mobilizing necessary resources to support host countries in sustaining and enhancing services provided to refugees and host communities alike, the statement concluded.
