Prashant's family denounces crowdfunding drive
Balasore: The family members of Prashant Satpathy, a victim of Pahalgam terror attack, on Monday strongly denounced the crowdfunding campaign allegedly being carried out in the name of helping his wife and son. The victim's family has lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime and Economic Offence police station in Balasore, stating that some people have started a fake fundraising campaign on social media platforms and are collecting money in the name of helping them.
'We have not given any consent to anyone for crowdfunding. We don't need money from the public, but seek their good wishes and blessings for my departed husband. We don't know the intention behind crowdfunding, but I appeal to all to stop the drive,' Satpathy's wife Priyadarshani Acharya told reporters. Prashant (41), an employee of CIPET, Balasore, was one of the 26 persons killed in the Pahalgam attack on April 22. Claiming that she learnt about crowdfunding from social media on Saturday, Priyadarshini said, 'Maybe those raising funds have good intentions, but they should have taken our consent. If they have collected some money, let them donate it to some charitable organisations and trusts. We strongly believe the government will take care of us.'
Prashant's younger brother Jayant said the fundraising has hurt the entire family. 'God will punish the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack,' he said, adding that the family has lodged an FIR with the Balasore Cyber police station in this regard (crowdfunding). Jayant also mentioned that they had reached out to the woman whose phone number was listed in the fundraising appeals on social media. 'She apologised for not taking our consent before starting the fundraiser,' he said. Meanwhile, a senior officer said the cyber police station has begun an investigation and contacted the person(s) involved in the fundraiser. Police sources said at least five to six persons have transferred about Rs 18,000 to the accused person's account.
Earlier, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had announced Rs 20 lakh ex gratia, a job for his wife and full support for the education and future needs of their nine-year-old son.

KALLAKURICHI: The 38 children who had lost one or both their parents in the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy last year, and had not received the monthly allowance announced by the Tamil Nadu government for the past few months, were credited with the pending amount within three hours after TNIE brought the issue to the notice of the government. When TNIE visited Karunapuram, which accounted for 38 of the 69 people who died in the hooch tragedy this week last year, it learnt that many of the affected children had not received the monthly allowance from the state. According to the government, four children had lost both their parents while 34 lost one of their parents. The state government had announced a monthly allowance of Rs 5,000 each for the four children, and Rs 4,000 each for the 34 others. The allowances will be credited until the children turn 18, the government had said. TNIE learnt that while the four orphaned children had not received their monthly allowance for the past four months since March 2025, the remaining 34 had not received the money for the past nine months since October 2024. The four orphaned children included a girl and two boys, aged between 14 and 17, from the same family, who lost their parents R Suresh (41) and S Vadivukkarasi (39) in the tragedy. Vadivukkarasi had accidentally consumed a small quantity of the methanol-laced liquor that Suresh had left in a cup.

HM Shah to visit Chhattisgarh today to bolster anti-Maoist strategy
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive in Chhattisgarh on Sunday for a crucial two-day visit to strengthen the ongoing crackdown against left-wing extremism and launch key infrastructure projects to support forensic investigation capabilities in the region. During the visit (June 22-23), HM Shah is scheduled to chair a high-level meeting with senior security and administrative officials to evaluate the progress made in the fight against Maoist insurgency. The meeting will also focus on refining the Centre's strategy to achieve the declared goal of eliminating Maoist influence by the set deadline of March 31, 2026. Highlighting the Centre's commitment to long-term stability and improved security infrastructure in the region, Shah will also lay the foundation stone for a campus of the prestigious National Forensic Science University (NFSU) in Naya Raipur. The proposed world-class campus will be developed on 40 acres of land already allocated by the state government. The estimated cost for the project is between Rs 350–400 crore and will be entirely funded by the Central government. In addition to the NFSU campus, a separate 6-acre area has been earmarked for a state-run forensic laboratory, aimed at further enhancing the state's investigative capabilities. According to Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma, the Union Home Minister will perform the 'bhoomi-pujan' for both facilities during his visit. Shah will also spend time at one of the frontline security camps, reflecting the Centre's solidarity with forces operating in high-risk zones. Sources familiar with the anti-Naxal operations have reported significant success, with 32 out of 45 members of the Maoist Central Committee already neutralised in various encounters. Efforts continue to locate and apprehend the remaining top leaders of the outlawed outfit.
