People Are Praising Naomi Watts For Being So Honest About Her Experience Having Sex With Billy Crudup For The First Time While Going Through Menopause

Buzz Feed28-01-2025

Naomi Watts has never shied away from being as open and honest as possible when it comes to sharing elements of her personal life with the public.
And now she's taken it a step further with her new book, Dare I Say It: Everything I Wish I'd Known About Menopause. In the book, which was released on January 21. She details what it was like trying to start a family at the age of 36, while also being told she was perimenopausal.
To celebrate the book's release, Naomi took part in a conversation on The Drew Barrymore Show, where she joined Drew, actor Brooke Shields, OBGYN Dr. Suzanne Gilberg-Lenz, and psychiatrist Dr. Judith Joseph to discuss menopause journeys.
Brooke recently released a book titled Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old: Thoughts on Aging as a Woman, which also details aging in the public eye.
On the panel, Naomi explained she went and saw her doctor at age 36 after she was having trouble getting pregnant. It was then that her doctor told her, "It looks like you are close to menopause." She said it felt "extremely early" and "shocking" to hear that, especially while trying to start a family.
"It created such panic in me," she added.
According to the Mayo Clinic, menopause can happen in the 40s or 50s. In the United States, the average age for a woman to begin menopause is 51.
Then, she remembered that her mom had gone into early menopause at 45. When Naomi asked her mom, "What is this? Why didn't you tell me more?" Her mom replied, "Well, these were the conversations that I didn't have with my mother, so I never had them with you."
She continued, "It was no blame on her. It was just the societal message that was passed from generation to generation that we suffer in silence."
Naomi explained that she was ultimately able to conceive naturally, but after her second child at 40 years old, she went "hardcore" into menopause symptoms.
She shares both children with her ex-partner Liev Schreiber.
Outside of the panel discussion, Naomi was also a guest on The Drew Barrymore Show, where she and Drew got to talk more one-on-one about her new book and menopause journey.
In the clip posted to TikTok, Naomi discusses her first sexual encounter with her now-husband, Billy Crudup, while going through menopause.
"I'm not going to embarrass him and talk about it in depth on live TV, but there is a chapter where I explore it and go into detail, but I was mortified because I had my patch on," Naomi began.

She explained that the adhesive on the patches is typically "very sticky" and "takes ages to get off." This resulted in her often leaving the "nasty mark" left by the adhesive on her body because it was so hard to scrub off.
Naomi continued, saying that before getting intimate with her now-husband for the first time, she ran off to the bathroom and "panicked," trying to get the sticky residue left behind by a few patches off her body.
"I was in there too long and then came out sort of like that, frantic, and he said, 'Are you okay? Are you not in the mood?'," she recalled.
She said she fumbled for what to say before revealing, "Look, I'm in menopause, and I have this patch, and I'm wearing it, and it leaves this… I'm old, should I just leave?"
Naomi said she was trying so hard to apologize and "shrinking" into herself before Billy finally said, "We're the same age. We're the same age. What is this? This is science. How can I help?"
While the clip making the rounds online ends there, Naomi continued in the episode, saying, "Truth can be so liberating. People fear that when they get to this point that the sex is gonna be over, and for some it's true that your libido goes down. You can get support for things like that."
CBS
She concluded, saying, "But I say I just encourage women to get the communication going. Be honest. Tell them what you're going through. Most of the time, people wanna help."
Shortly after the clip was posted on TikTok, people flocked to the comments praising Naomi for having this open and vulnerable discussion in such a public setting. One user wrote, "I've NEVER Heard someone talk about the patch and how it affects us 😭😭😭 Thank you ❤️❤️❤️"

Another top comment reads, "I love when people open themselves and share experiences like this. it's so refreshing!"
And another added, "how beautiful. menopause is harder than people realize for many reasons. sometimes we just cry bc we are in it. my husband is very supportive. Support from loved ones helps so much."
One person wrote, "I'm old-should I just leave? is going to be my default response to all things going forward. 😂"
People began sharing their own experiences in the comments, too. One TikTok user wrote, "I'm 32 and in menopause. It scares me to date to explain this to someone." And another didn't even know the patches were a thing, writing, "I didn't know there was a patch??"
CBS / Via youtube.com
One person wrote, "The most realistic story of being in menopause."
Many also praised Billy for his response to Naomi in this situation, with the top comment on the video reading, "I have ALWAYS loved Billy Crudup."
Overall, this is such an important conversation that more women should feel comfortable having, and it's so refreshing to hear Naomi's experience.

Dog Owner Asks Groomer For 'The Standard' Cut, Unprepared For New Look

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Many of us have had our fair share of bad haircuts over the years, and now Lulu the toy caboodle has also joined that list after a very unfortunate trip to the groomers. Dog owner Amit Sharma, 26, shared a hilarious post on TikTok (@thisisasharma) showing what Lulu looked like when he dropped her off at the groomers, before revealing the drastic comparison of the dog he picked up. Lulu's thick coat of fluffy brown fur was cut right back to a very short layer all over, except for the top of her head which remained hysterically voluminous. Her new look certainly caught Sharma by surprise, as he told Newsweek that it took him about "five minutes to process her hair" when he saw it. Sharma, of Sydney, Australia, said: "I was shocked in a funny and weird way because I just knew my mom would've been even more shocked. I think I'm banned from taking her for a haircut again now." Lulu the caboodle before and after going to the groomers for "the standard" haircut. @thisisasharma / TikTok Lulu's winter haircut may not have gone quite to plan, but social media users can't get enough of her unexpected new do. Since the comparison was shared on TikTok, it's gone viral with over 1.7 million views and more than 155,800 likes at the time of writing. Thankfully for Lulu, her fur has already started to grow back and she's looking "much better now" according to Sharma. However, next time he takes her to the groomers, he'll be sure to be more specific about what trim she needs, rather than just simply saying "the standard" like last time. Sharma didn't realize it was even possible for dogs to have bad haircuts prior to this—but he certainly knows it now. "She was quiet for 2 days after. I think she saw some things inside the hair salon," he told Newsweek. Although internet users may have been laughing at Lulu's expense (we've all been there), Sharma is delighted that his sweet pup could bring a smile to so many people's faces. After all, Lulu could easily pull off any new hairstyle anyway. Since the post went viral in May, plenty of TikTok users took to the comments section to laud Lulu's completely new appearance. This has led to more than 740 comments on the TikTok post so far, with some even insisting that it must be two different dogs. One comment reads: "Looking like he might go sign the Declaration of Independence." Another TikTok user wrote: "You sure that's the same dog?" Another person joked: "His villain origin story." While one commenter added: "The crimes that were committed!" Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share? We want to see the best ones! Since soft-launching her relationship with Whipskey on social media last month, Camp has been facing backlash for dating someone nearly 20 years younger than her. What could they possibly have in common?' one fan wrote on the same Instagram post that Camp commented on. 'If a 42 year old is with a 24 year old, it's about power or control, even on a subconscious level,' another fan said. 8 Anna Camp with her new girlfriend Jade Whipkey. Woman on Vacation Picks Fresh Oranges for Juice—Horror at What's in Glass

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A video showing a mother and daughter making orange juice from street-side fruit in Portugal has gone viral on TikTok, due to the unexpected discovery of what appeared to be maggots writhing in their freshly squeezed drink. Posted by TikTok user @rubywillow._, the video was filmed last week in Portugal's Algarve region and has garnered more than 9.3 million views since it was shared on June 18. It begins with a caption overlaid on the video saying: "You thought it was a good idea to make fresh orange juice in Portugal … it was not." The footage shows a woman collecting fallen oranges from beneath a tree along a public street, with an empty plastic bag in hand. The video then cuts to scenes of the fruit being juiced, and a close-up of the freshly squeezed liquid reveals small white organisms moving visibly in the glass. Screenshots from a TikTok video of a woman making juice from oranges taken from a tree on a street in Portugal. @rubywillow._ on TikTok "We believe it was maggots of some kind in the drink," the poster, who did not share her name, age or location, told Newsweek, adding that "it was my first time making orange juice." While her mother consumed half-a-glass and she herself took a single sip, she said, "neither of us were unwell afterward." Suzanne Hyslop, a qualified nutritionist at the Ocean Recovery Centre in the U.K., told Newsweek that the movement in the juice "could very well be fruit fly or other small insects that had burrowed in." She added that "this can happen when oranges are overripe or damaged or have been left on the tree too long." The incident, while amusing to some, comes amid broader challenges facing citrus production in Portugal and elsewhere in southern Europe. A June 2023 report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture found that citrus production in the European Union is primarily based in Mediterranean countries. Spain and Italy are the top producers, followed by Greece, Portugal, and Cyprus. The report stated: "A reduction in EU citrus production is expected mainly in Spain with an almost 18 percent decrease, the lowest citrus production levels since the last decade." It also noted that reductions are projected in Italy and Portugal, particularly in orange yields. Spain's crop alone accounts for roughly 65 percent of the EU's citrus production. Hyslop said: "Picking fruit straight from a tree sounds wonderfully natural, but there are some important things to keep in mind." She cautioned against picking fruit from trees in public areas, adding: "Even in a country known for its fresh produce, safety requires proper handling, hygiene and also quality control," Hyslop said. The nutritionist added that, without knowing how a tree is maintained or what it has been exposed to, there is "no guarantee it's safe to consume." She highlighted possible contaminants such as vehicle emissions, pesticides, animal droppings and other urban pollutants. Despite the mishap, the video has entertained and alarmed viewers in equal measure. User isntthisweird said: "I have never seen maggots in any type of citrus, that's crazy." User house of james noted: "Oh no. I was expecting you to try it and it being sour, but oh my! Disturbing!!" User natasharoots said: "Hmmm extra protein orange juice." User Jennie from the block wrote: "the amount of people that didn't notice the very visible worms swimming in the juice." Do you have a travel-related video or story to share?
