‘I know I didn't cheat' – Ryan Garcia opens up on failed drug test after having Devin Haney win stripped away from him
RYAN GARCIA has opened up on his failed drug test to insist: "I know I didn't cheat."
The American star dropped Devin Haney three times on the way to a shock decision victory in April 2024.

But the result was soon overturned when it emerged Garcia tested positive for ostarine - a banned substance known to boost muscle growth.
Garcia protested his innocence but accepted a one-year ban - opposed to fighting it like Britain's Conor Benn.
Benn tested positive for clomiphene - which can boost testosterone - and refused a suspension and instead battled the case.
Eventually, UK Anti-Doping dropped the case against him - allowing him to fight on home soil again in defeat to Chris Eubank Jr.
But Garcia told SunSport: "What did he get out of that? People still think he cheated, so at the end of the day, I know I didn't cheat.
"I'll take the ban for a year and that keeps it moving fast. Everybody knows that I didn't take it.
"I know my team, we know we didn't take anything, so honestly it doesn't really matter to me at the end of the day.
"People are gonna believe whatever they want to believe, they're gonna believe I'm innocent, the large majority do believe that, so who cares?"

Benn, 28, never shared the evidence that got his case dropped against him, opting to instead keep it confidential.
And Garcia - whose team blamed contaminated supplements for his failed test - has not explained why ostarine was in his system.

He added: "What we did find out is that it was at the lowest amount you could possibly find trace amount.
"So again, it's proven that there was such low dosage in my system that has no effect on my body, so that's just the truth. It is what it is."
Garcia returned clean Voluntary Anti-Doping Association tests in the build-up to his bout with Haney.
And the positive tests for ostarine was taken from tests on the day of and 24 hours following the fight at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
Garcia suffered a public mental health breakdown after his fight with Haney.
He was even arrested last June and charged with one misdemeanour count of vandalism after causing £11,000 worth of damage in an LA hotel room.
But thankfully, Garcia turned it around and has got back on track both mentally and physically.
The boxer now returns against former sparring partner Rolando Romero, 29, on Friday night in a historic event staged outside in Times Square.
I know I didn't cheat. I'll take the ban for a year and that keeps it moving fast. Everybody knows that I didn't take it.

Haney, 26, is also on the same card against Jose Ramirez, 32, with a rematch planned if both are victorious.
Garcia said: "I think that he has a great chance to beat Ramirez. Ramirez is a little past his prime. So I expect both of us to win, for sure."
Despite Haney regaining his unbeaten record in the aftermath of Garcia's doping scandal - the beatdown still sticks in the memory of fans.
And Garcia goaded: "I have no idea how he's gonna go about himself. I just know that I was in his head the first time.
"It's hard to look past getting dropped three times, I mean, you have to address that within yourself.
"So I don't know how he's gonna handle that."
Garcia decided against heading into an immediate rematch with Haney after his lay-off.
He learned the hard way for mistakes made before his 2023 loss to Gervonta Davis, 30, which came off the back of a nine-month absence.
Garcia said: "I learned my lesson with the Tank fight on not taking a tune-up. You gotta be active.
"I don't think taking a year off and going straight into the Haney fight makes sense for either one of us. A year off is a long time.
"You need to get your timing back, everything back, real fights are much different than sparring, so it's good that we both took a fight, I think."

Nicolas Kuhn edging closer to completing his Celtic exit as ‘Hoops in advanced transfer talks with club'
NICOLAS KUHN is reportedly edging closer to completing his Celtic exit this summer. The German winger, 25, has been attracting interest following his standout campaign both in Scotland and in the Champions League last season. 2 Nicolas Kuhn could be on his way out of Parkhead Credit: Kenny Ramsay 2 He's not short of transfer options Credit: Kenny Ramsay SunSport were first to reveal Kuhn had emerged as a £15million target for RB Leipzig after he scored twice against his old club in November. He spent three years there as a youngster and could be on his way back to Germany in a big-money move. Reports out of Germany suggest talks between Celtic and RB Leipzig have been progressing over the last few days and it's the Bundesliga club who are leading the race. According to Kicker, via Bullinews, discussions between both clubs are now at an "advanced stage". Celtic paid around £3m to sign the wide-man from Rapid Vienna in January 2024 and are now in line to make a healthy profit on the 25-year-old. He still has four years left on his current deal so the Scottish champions are in no rush to sell. SunSport understands, however, that Kuhn would be interested in making a stunning return back to Leipzig. It would certainly boost his chances of earning his first senior call up for Germany after Julian Nagelsmann revealed last year that he was already on his radar. A number of other Bundesliga clubs are also monitoring the player. Kuhn also has interest down south as well as Newcastle United scouted him several times last season. Nicolas Kuhn talks to media for first time since signing for Celtic before posing for pictures with Hoops scarf They had talent spotters in the Celtic Park stands when he scored his brace against RB Leipzig a few months ago. It's believed the Premier League club are still tracking him and are weighing up a potential swoop. But they will need to act fast if they want to land him as Leipzig are wasting no time in their pursuit for the pacy wide-man. Russell Henley suffers for honesty at Travelers with Ryder Cup consolation prize left after title miss
Henley called a penalty against himself when his ball moved a fraction in the rough before he played a shot Honest Russell Henley suffered for his classy act of sportsmanship as he came up just short at the Travelers. But the American star admits it was worth it to see United States skipper Keegan Bradley surge towards the title and a place in the Ryder Cup team. Henley displayed classy honesty during his second round at TPC River Highlands when he called a penalty against himself when his ball moved a fraction in the rough before he played a shot. It was not seen by anyone else or TV cameras, but he still did the right thing and, in the end, that crucial one-shot deduction cost him a place in a play-off with Bradley. Ironically, as Bradley is now being pushed to play for the United States, he could also knock Henley, who is seventh in the US Points List, out of the automatic qualifying spots come final reckoning. But he's almost sure of a pick either way and he had had nothing but good things to say about his potential skipper and wants him as a player as he said: 'I mean, I hope so. "He's just won, he's been playing great. I think he would be a great team-mate. He just plays with so much passion. "He wants it, he wants to compete, he wants to win. He just, it just means so much to him. That was a really, really cool moment on the 18th. I definitely feel for Tommy [Fleetwood] and I've been in that situation before and it stings, so it's the nature of sport.' Henley's admiration for Bradley is reciprocated by the captain as he sees the prospect of a top-notch individual on his roster. Victory at the prestigious Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill rocketed Henley up the Ryder Cup standings and cemented his chances of facing Europe in New York. Henley also formed a formidable partnership with Scottie Scheffler at the Presidents Cup last year when he and the World No.1 to secure points as Jim Furyk's men got the better of the International team at Royal Montreal. Henley looks a strong bet to be at Bethpage and that Bradley says he didn't need to watch him down the Travelers stretch as they played together in the final round to judge his minerals with a last-hole chip-in proving his again showing his class and character. He said: 'Russell's way up high on the points, won Bay Hill this year, consistently contends in the majors, finished in the top five at US Open, world-class player. "I wouldn't want to play [against] him come Ryder Cup time. The chip on 18, like he's just nasty and I love it because he's like the nicest guy ever, but he's an amazing competitor. If it was a younger player maybe, but not a guy like Russell.'

Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu accused of 'taking jobs' after blockbuster announcement
Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu accused of 'taking jobs' after blockbuster announcement The US Open mixed doubles draw has been met with a mixed reaction, with Andy Roddick accusing the likes of Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz of 'taking jobs' in the format Emma Raducanu has been slammed by an American tennis icon (Image:for LTA ) Andy Roddick has expressed disapproval over the likes of Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz taking spots in the US Open mixed doubles draw, which he believes should be reserved for doubles specialists. However, the American tennis icon acknowledged that having high-profile players participate can help "grow the game of doubles" and sees it as a positive development as well. The format for the mixed doubles at this year's final grand slam has recently been changed. It now takes place during the qualifying week, which will allow top tennis names to warm up at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center before the singles matches kick off. This change has drawn some criticism as players such as Alcaraz, Raducanu, Jannik Sinner and Emma Navarro have entered the draw, potentially displacing lower-ranked doubles players who had intended to compete. Speaking on 'Served with Andy Roddick', the tennis legend shared his conflicted feelings about the new draw announcement. Roddick suggested that while the inclusion of well-known players will attract more fans to doubles, it also does a disservice to those who dedicate their careers to the doubles circuit. Andy Roddick has mixed feelings on the US Open format change (Image:) Article continues below The 42-year-old said: "Now, is it taking jobs away from doubles players who kind of run this side tour? Yeah, it is. "But, if your net, most important thing is - which is the defence that I get when people are mad at me when I talk about doubles - is, 'We have to grow the game of doubles,' there is not a better way to grow the game of doubles than to have the biggest stars on earth playing doubles, featured, ESPN prime time, in the lead-up to the US Open." Roddick added: "This entry list, I thought it would be fine, I thought we'd have some cool names and some cool matchups, [but] this is a 12/10 with the people who are going to do this. Don't argue with me about what mixed doubles should be if you don't get excited about this. Jannik Sinner will also participate in the mixed doubles (Image:) "People were like we had to grow the game of doubles, so we can't take that away from the doubles that people don't watch regularly... that was confusing to me. Now, you get nine of the top 10 on each side, biggest stars on earth, and then some. This is going to bring more eyeballs to the game of doubles." The American tennis legend's comments have shed light on the mixed atmosphere surrounding the doubles event at this year's US Open, with fans eagerly anticipating the high-profile pairings set to grace the courts. Article continues below These partnerships include Alcaraz and Raducanu, Sinner and Navarro, Olga Danilovic paired with Novak Djokovic, and Naomi Osaka joining forces with Nick Kyrgios. However, viewers feel the sting for those doubles specialists, who may have missed out on a place at the event due to the format change. The US Open mixed doubles tournament will be held over two days, on August 19 and 20, during the qualifying week of the season's final major tournament.
